Worst Album Part Two (ONA) OK, the other thread was getting long as hell. I'm one of those people who read everybody's comments before posting, but most do not and I wanted to be heard. Selfish, but true.
I think the One Nite Alone CD I received from NPGMC is by far the worst excuse for an album he has ever done. If it was a bootleg that wasn't intended to be heard as a complete work for sale then it would be cool. But considering it cost around $25 dollars it was a rip. I got the $25 price by dividing $100 by the 4 promised albums. Come on, most people agree that the "COME" album was not his worst. So we can get past that. But tell me honestly, for all of you who own this album, do you honestly have one other Prince album that is worse than this one? I seriously love the man's work, but I feel this album was not thought through. Sure it's cool to have an all piano recording of Prince, but I would like it better if it was a bootleg. Because that would make it more of a novelty item than an album, which he marketed it as. OK, I know I'm going to get pounced for that last sentence, but that's cool. I had to edit my grammar because CalhounSq was sweet enough to point out my short comings. Thank you CalhounSq. Also if you are reading this thread for the first time, please note that I don't say I HATE this album. [This message was edited Wed Jul 24 0:55:32 PDT 2002 by DaddyMan]

Why do I have to be DUMB because you have a difference of opion, which you failed to even state. You don't have to throw personal slurs just because you don't like what I said. Which I'm only assuming. Maybe you do agree and you where just to chicken shit to admit it. .

Unless Prince releases this stuff commercially, I don't think it should be crtiqued the same as his other albums. True, members payed for it, but it's part of a package of "member exclusives." If he releases it commercially with the current track list and no additional tweaking, I'd agree with you but until then...
As "members" we clamored for a bit of intimacy with Prince. That's what he gave us with ONA. I don't think he meant it as a finished work, but more a glimpse of what you'd get if you were hanging with P at the piano, not at a concert but just among friends. I really think it's too bad that people review it as harshly as they do. The version we got is a members exclusive, that's it.

OK, this is cut and pasted directly from the "Join Now" page on the clubs website: Each 2002 member will receive at least 4 brand new Prince CDs in the mail from Paisley Park thruout the year. Be the first 2 hear new music fresh from the mixing board. Instrumental music, solo piano albums, and many other xciting releases r already in the works within the Studio walls of Paisley Park. And u will get them first if u join now. They say "solo piano ALBUM", so why wouldn't I compare it with the other ALBUMS if they are calling it an ALBUM themselves. Also, it is being sold as a body of work, just like all his other albums. He is just marketing them differently. Just because he doesn't sale as many doesn't make it less. His next album to the club maybe his best work ever. I would then praise it as such and compare it to all the rest just as I'm doing ONA. I hate editing, but it's sometimes a necessary evil. ONA is his best album since Emancipation. No doubt about it.

Unless they remaster 1999 and Purple Rain I believe Prince can STILL sale albums. But he is going to have to be seriously innovative. I believe he could if he wanted to, but I think he doesn't want to deal with all the BS that goes with creating and promoting an album that will sale majorly to the masses. I think he's just tired of all the big buisness crap. Of course this is pure speculation on my part.

Everyone has their favorites. Their favorite recka usually has something to do with when they became a fan of Prince's.
Which era pulled them into the world of Purple skys. ONA is pretty cool. But then again, I always dug "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" when it first came out and ONA is sorta in the same vein. I can't listen to the "Symbol" album or "Diamonds and Pearls" all the way through without wincing once or thrice though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I agree, after Emancipation and Rave being mismanaged COMPLETELY by the record companies, I think it'll be a long time till Prince tries to court the masses again. If he wanted to, I think we'd have seen the "High" tracks released LONG before The Rainbow Children. I hope he's at that point. It gets increasingly painful to watch him fail each time he releases a mainstream album.

I think One Nite Alone is great! It's personalized for me and it really captures the essence of Prince on piano. When will people realize that the price of One Nite Alone was not $25?

One Nite Alone is the worst album ever, I know why he released it via the NPGMC, No one Record Label will or would ever release it. QUALITY CONTROL people!!!
I heard u several times telling about it would be nice if it was released as a bootleg, well believe me, no one bootleg label would release something like that

Yea - Chaos & Disorder Y'all are bugged - ONA is wonderful, I dig every track on it. Of course my "liking" will be labeled as "asskissing" but what else is new in this bitter community??? Sorry about the grammar check, it was making me nuts!

I totally agree. It sucks seeing all these pre-packaged groups suck up all the lime light. I just want my guy to go out in a ball of flames. I want one last album to the masses that knocks their asses off and shows them he IS THE ARTIST. I want record sells that surpass belief. I want concerts that rival Michael Jackson's largest events. I want him to do a big budget movie with a good script that out sales Purple Rain. I want to see him take home every award given out at every award show for a year. I want to see his videos every time I turn to MTV, BET and VH1. And during this year I will simply look at each person who's made a funky comment about my boy and who is now kissing his ass and smirk. A big ass smirk that let's them know that not only does this prove they were wrong, but they've also missed out on the entire funky ride that got him to this station. This is my Prince dream, if I ever had one. (OK, the movie part is really far fetched.) If that happen then I would be glad for him to sink back into his little world and only put out CD's through his club. Which I will remain a member of.

I never said I HATED it. I said it is, in my opinion, his worst album. That doesn't denote hate. Listen, if people can have a favorite and pick best, then they can have a worst or leased liked. I can't hate it. I'm a fan. I just don't think it's as good as any of the others on a total comparison. I don't think anyone is wrong for thinking it's great. The other thread that started this said the "COME" album was the worst. Each person is entitled to their opinion, but please don't get me wrong. I don't hate it.

I do love the ONA Album and personally I think that New Power Soul is the worst album, especially since the two albums before Goldnigga and Exodus were great and different.
My experience is that everybody who comes to my house and listens to the ONA really loves it and can't believe it is Prince. I even burned the ONA for friends who did listen to Prince 10 years ago and it is in heavy rotation in their players. Everybody who is coming to their house now loves the music and actually wants to have it. People who are not as much into Prince as we, might be less critical and give the man credit for doing something different. I do believe that an album like ONA could sell well when it is marketed well. After my return from the celebration a collegue of mine from Austria asked me whether the celebration did take place. I replied yes and asked why? She then mentioned that MTV Austria had had the news on tv that the celebration might not take place because the tickets weren't selling. So much to the marketing thing. After my return from xenophobia I did a listening session with one of my best friends. Playing the ONA and the 1+1+1=3 Live version from the npgmc and the days of wild cd from the celebration to him. He really loved the music and said if it weren't for me he would miss out on all of this great music. For him Prince has turned away from mainstream into underground and he absolutely loves it this way.

Funny thing is a lot of people totally dislike Chaos & Disorder and I love it. Life is funny isn't it. [This message was edited Wed Jul 24 1:07:51 PDT 2002 by DaddyMan]

Sorry, but those statements of your original post made me believe that you indeed DO hate One Nite Alone. I'll take your word for it though. I have never bashed anyone for having a difference of opinion. Note every reply to every thread I've ever written. I have only bashed after being bashed. Even in those cases, like on this thread with waterhead I never get too deep. But back on subject, I like every album the man has done. I LIKE a lot of bootleg material too. I'm talking rehersals and even poorly recorded second generation live stuff. But I don't think any of it is as good as his officially released albums. This is how I see this album as an unpolished body of work. If that is what it is, then don't call it an album. Call it a collection of demos. Also, Moonbeam, how much would you say I paid for ONA if we had to break it down by album promised.

Ideal concert seating, soundchecks, Celebration privileges, the Days of Wild CD and downloads (1+1+1 is 3 live) are also benefits.
