Apparently it's become the trend to hate "One Nite Alone." rolleyes

If the same disk had been released on Thunderball or Sabatoge people would have paid any price for it and it would have been his greatest masterpiece. People are dumb.

I hear you completely. Anything that is unreleased is automatically revered by so many people. I'll bet many of them are the same ones who were raving about the 4 songs released through NPGMC last year and "Pearls B4 the Swine" on the Ahdio shows.

I think One Nite Alone is great! It's personalized for me and it really captures the essence of Prince on piano. When will people realize that the price of One Nite Alone was not $25?

Once again Moonbeam puts things into wonderful perspective.
One Nite Alone(like all Prince releases)need to be taken for what they are.
You either enjoy the uninterrupted beauty of ONA or you don't.
I still get chills when I hear the title track, Here On Earth and A Case Of U.
Prince is giving us such breathtaking honesty and beauty through his music,we should be very thankful.
Here's some advice...
Take a long bath, pour a glass of your favourite wine and enjoy One Nite Alone...

redface Thank you! It definitely is an album set to a particular mood, one which you described perfectly with your long bath and wine motif.

Everyone has their favorites. Their favorite recka usually has something to do with when they became a fan of Prince's.
Which era pulled them into the world of Purple skys.

ONA is pretty cool. But then again, I always dug "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" when it first came out and ONA is
sorta in the same vein.

I can't listen to the "Symbol" album or "Diamonds and Pearls" all the way through without wincing once or thrice though.

I think HCYDCMA has more soul than anything on ONA. I agree that ONA is Prince's worst album. The title track is it's one and only saving grace.

I hope he's at that point. It gets increasingly painful to watch him fail each time he releases a mainstream album.

sorry...but each time???

As far as I know the rleases from NPS and Rave as commercial mainstream albums were far more embarrassing than seeing TRC sell more than 100.000 copies, which I think is actually pretty good, considering the album hardly was promoted...

btw Wellbeyond???

where are those statistics on TRC you used to come up with?
I like to know if he has passed 150.000 from TRC yet...

I totally agree. It sucks seeing all these pre-packaged groups suck up all the lime light.

it would suck even more if I would have to watch Prince among these stupid ass crap acts. that would be total embrassment.

I just want my guy to go out in a ball of flames. I want one last album to the masses that knocks their asses off and shows them he IS THE ARTIST.

He is Prince again, not the Artist anymore. He now does what he wants i guess... so maybe you should forget about what you want and just let the man make the music lots of fans ask for and he wants to make.
He doesn't have to prove himself to anybody anymore... everybody knows he is ten times better than the average crap act out there.

I want record sells that surpass belief. I want concerts that rival Michael Jackson's largest events. I want him to do a big budget movie with a good script that out sales Purple Rain. I want to see him take home every award given out at every award show for a year. I want to see his videos every time I turn to MTV, BET and VH1.

keep dreaming in front of your stupid ass mtv, bet and vh1 while I go catch some real funk tunes from xenophobia
You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

Someone had a nice big cup of hater-ade today...wink

I think you came you looking to argue, but whatevs...

If you noticed, I defended ONA and am very pleased with it.

The commercial "failures" i referred to were Emancipation and Rave. I meant "failure" mainly in the sense that he gave both BIG promtional pushes and was STILL ignored by the masses. I never mentioned TRC as part of that club, read before you argue, please...

Also, I said I hope he is to the point of not striving for commercial success. I think TRC is a masterpiece. An album clearly made by Prince for Prince, with no care about public perception. It was brilliant, and I'll be happy if he stays this course and never shoots for a 'number 1' again...

Whatevs, to each their own...

Prince said that songs on ONA were demo...

WHAT WOULD BE COOL... IS THAT PRINCE GIVES US THE FULL DEVELOPPED SONGS, if they exist.

It would be truly exciting to see the birth then the growing of thoses songs.

Yeah. A bit like "Welcome 2 The dawn (Acoustic Version)" from 'The Truth' CD.

Are we ever going to hear 'the other' version of this - if there ever was another one?

ONA is BORING !
Prince could give to us fans what we want : LIVE cds !
With all the material he has taped, he could do what David Bowie did on his site with his "LiveAndWell" cd .
It's the members who choose the tracklisting from the songs played during his 97 tour !

And during this year I will simply look at each person who's made a funky comment about my boy and who is now kissing his ass and smirk. A big ass smirk that let's them know that not only does this prove they were wrong, but they've also missed out on the entire funky ride that got him to this station.

This is my Prince dream, if I ever had one. (OK, the movie part is really far fetched.) If that happen then I would be glad for him to sink back into his little world and only put out CD's through his club. Which I will remain a member of.

cool

I REALLY beleive he could've done all that if that's what he really wanted and decided to play by the rules a little. It's be nice, but I don't particularly care about his chart status or his awards.

As for ONA, I play it when I'm in the mood for it, but it's not his,"worst" by any stretch. "For You", "Prince", "NPS" and perhaps "Batman" and 'Rave" rate behind this one. My interest in it fluctuates with my mood, but overall I tend to shy away from the ballads. At least it's consitent, which I haven't been able to say about a Prince album in some time.

I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. Not what I was hoping for, but a decent chapter in the overall book.
