Graffiti Bridge I dont know if this has been mentioned on here before but I was watching the film last nite and in the part where its the morning after Aura got drunk and gets woken by Prince - and shes reading some of his music sheets and one of the song titles was 'Rave unto the joy fantastic' this shocked me a little as that song wasnt released until around 10 years later???? how fantastic he can hold onto his music never defy time by holding onto them for so long..
Am I right here or did my eyes deceive me or have I got the song wrong?? answers on a postcard please..... 'Ive never been 1 2 hide my feelings, Baby, u blow my mind I painted your face upon my ceiling, I stare at it all the time...' http://www.myspace.com/welshmess

The song dates back to at least 1989. There's samples of it scattered within the Batdance remixes.
I think that prior to the Batman album, he was planning a "techno gospel" album called Underground. I think. Boris will know for sure.

'Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic' was originally going to be the follow-up album
to 'Lovesexy'. Then Prince got involved with the Batman album and it got shelved. (there were several configurations for the '89 Rave albums made)

The songs titles visible during this scene are:
'God Is Alive (God Is Love)' The following lyrics are mostly visible: "News is comin' like a dog in heat He's lookin' 4 soldiers with strong feet That can dance on whoever can't say His name God is alive" The Spiritual World "note: incomplete" Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic The following lyrics are mostly visible: World full of lovers, city full of good times Don't go undercover, I can get U out of Love Is Everywhere by the Kid Dance With Power (dance with evil [?]) bass, drum, cello & tymp [possibly meaning tipani] . It is also a totally different composition to "Dance With The Devil". . [Edited 4/30/06 4:40am] "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Yep - just to be clear - the 'dance with evil' subtitle is what Prince has scrawled on the 'score' - I'm not absolutely certain it says 'evil'. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Seriously, how awesome does that make Prince. I mean like Rave or NOT, you have to admit, it sounded futuritic-ish in 2000, let alone in '89, forget it!

If you read the relevant section of this thread, you'll get a sense of how it's believed it went: the two projects either evolved concurrently or one into another: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/116565 .
