The Rainbow Children Hi!
I first heard TRC in November, I listened to it on and off for about a month. My reaction to this album was 'yeah, whatever.' I didn't really love it but I didn't really hate it either. I thought the music was okay and lyrics were a bit nonsensical. Since then then I have heard a couple of the ONA shows and read the celebration reports on this site (which btw were great! Thanks to anyone who posted their reviews! ) This inspired me to give TRC another go and WOW!! I really like this album now! I think it has a great flow and is meant to be listened to beggining to end without skipping any tracks (except Wedding Feast ). I can now even stand the 'Bob George' voiceovers. At the moment, I still don't rate it among my own very favourite Prince albums (like SOTT, Controversy, Black Album etc...). But it is now definatly in my top 10. I guess to me this is album that will be appreciated more over time.

I hope so. In my opinion The Rainbow Children is one of the Best Prince albums by far. The music , the grooves, the lyrics.Just the entire Feel of this LP is Awesome ! This is such a Spiritual Lp and it just Blows me away. I can play it over and over again and it is never Stale and always FRESH. It's my Favorite. Prince just keeps on getting Better Musically with each new Masterpiece. He is the Best and I Love Him Dearly. Quite Wonderful.

I think TRC is one of Prince's best as well. I'm a little disappointed in ONA CD.

LOL..I'm opposite of divo.
I think ONA is great--and I was at first disappointed with TRC, but now I appreciate and it goes in the "ok" category". Sometimes less is more, and I don't think the music on TRC adhered 2 that. Can't wait 2 hear the next album!

I'd like to hear more albums like The Rainbow Children -- could be a cool series of concept albums -- all spiritual of course. Music to make you think, yeah.

The Rainbow Children was a breath of fresh air to me. I've listened to Prince as long as I can remember. At this point in time, TRC hit just the right spot at just the right time. Good concept. Great music. I'm glad I bought it and recommend it constantly.

TRC is an acquired taste. But some just never get used to the flavor. I love the music and most of the lyrics are cool but there are still some things I don't get. I actually find the Wedding Feast bring a smile to my face every time I here it.

I think TRC is full of timeless music of all categories, but it's released in the wrong aera of music-history. When I listen to TRC I hear Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles, Carlos Santana, Led Zeppelin, ELP and maybe more. It's an album full of REAL music, which is so rare today. Because of this circumstance I think TRC will become a "Cult-Album" in the future.

It would be fun to get you all worked up though and not tell u I was joking.

What he/she/they said... I would have co-signed as well, but the author left Blue Oyster Cult off the list... sigh. SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com

One of my favourites. I regard it as one of Prince's best, a true classic.
I believe that in the future it may become a cult classic. Regardless, the album is amazing. One of the first albums thats truly astounded me in years.

The first part is still quite cool. But the more I listen to it the more sinister the album seems to get. It's quite a scary thing, that whole TRC album. Not the music, the music is just fine. Very fine actually. I even dig the music that's flowing behind the "family name" segue. Brilliant. But, although musically profound, it does meander on a bit -not the least in the musical themes - and then after you've sat through the most part of it, right after the M.L.K. speech, the whole thing just spirals downward. The music in those last two songs is great, but the lyrics and especially the chorus of those last trax are awful. Like I said before, "Anna Stesia" is probably more religious than both these songs combined, yet I never had a problem with it. Hell, it's probably one of his most beautiful and intimate moments ever put on record. But "Everlasting Now" and "Last December" seem so contrived and millitant. The chorus' message is too blunt and the rest of the lyrics aren't strong [or at least abstract] enough to offer some counter balance for them. I always figured that "Bob George" and "Others Here With Us" were spooky trax. Now with TRC, Prince has recorded some SCARY trax, probably without the intention of doing so. Yeah thats ticket...
