xenophobia- who feelin it?

this 11 minute track from the indianapolis show is killer! how many of you dig wacked out grooves like this one? reminds me of madhouse meets herbie h. i hope the whole album is like that.
i have a question tho': if you have seen a recent show, what is prince doing on this track? and who's playing those spacey synth licks? is it on the purpleaxxe? please fill me in. thanx.

I'm in agreement...LOVE "Xenophobia", though I've only heard the performance of it from the Chicago show...and from going to the show at the Kodak, it's Renaldo(Renato??) doin' the synth work...Prince starts off on the keyboard as well, but switched over to his guitar after Blackwell's solos...

Hi there!

It's great indeed. I'm playing it for month's now. First from the Chicago-boot, now from the 5-track mini album (as downloadable on win-mx or where-ever).
I've seen the show in Washington DC. Can't remember what Prince did. It was renato on keys, rondha on bass, jonn on drums, greg on trombone, maceo on sax and Prince on? Guitar? some extra keys probably. The weirdy electrical sounds are from Renato (you can hear more of that on the Days of Wild in Montreal).

Again great song. Very loose, very jazzy-funky. I guess it's live more dynamic than on record.
Can't wait for the album to come though... I hope it's a little wilder than the madhouse albums. We'll see in August I hope.
Art,

lol...you're welcome. I think if he put out something like that, but better quality, this wasn't bad at all, but better quality and not touch it up in any way, he'd have a lot of happy people out there waiting to buy it.

There are "Others"? I loved that movie! smile

The live xenophobia is great - so is the live Rainbow Children with the long intro.

BLACK MF:

The live version of 'Xenophobia' is from the 'One Nite Alone Tour EP', a promo disc that NPG records sent to radio stations to advertise the tour. The 5 tracks featured on the EP are circulating as MP3's. They are all sounboard quality.

'Xenophobia' is a great jam. I love those freaked out, space age synths as well. The song is just so intense, I kind of regard it as an instrumental continuation of 'The Rainbow Children' but creatively turned up a notch. My favourite part is when it breaks and goes rock guitar and then turns into that subdued, jazzy groove for awhile. It gets better everytime I listen to it.

All the tracks from the EP are superb though. My favourites apart from 'Xenophobia' are 'Other side of the Pillow' which is in a completely different rendition and 'Strange Relationship' which is pure, unadulterated FUNK - 'You're killing me with that bass Rhonda, you're killing me!' Great stuff.

The whole indianapolis ep rocks, I agree!
Xenophobia is also very impressive to see, with his small handsigns to cue the band in and all that. They really have to pay attention!
