I Now Believe Prince is His Own Bootlegger

I just a preview posting of a new 12 CD set from this year's celebration. Xenophobia is being sold for $200. The CDs feature recordings of each night's guest as well as Prince's performances. One of the CDs even has Connie the fan's performance of Manic Monday.

These recordings *had* to have come from an official source. I'm finding it very hard to believe that an audience member could sneak into Paisley Park each and every night for 7 nights with a recording device.

Some people just haven't got a clue... If it came from an official source don't you think that they would be soundboard recordings??

Well, believe it cos this just happens, Paisley Park is no Fort Knox or something...

It all makes sense now!!!

Prince wears the recording equiptment himself! That way it sounds like an audience recording and not soundboard, thus hiding his evil-doing!!

Talk about some people not having a clue...sheesh..do you *really* think Paisley would go so far as to release SOUNDBOARDS of Xenophobia? That would make it too obvious that the recordings were official.

It's just paisley employees rippin' him off! I believe in the early dayz (around 1986/87) he deliberately put stuff out to be bootlegged to help create hype and mystique. But he wouldn't do it now. He wants absolute control.

If there is a recording starting to make the rounds from the Celebration that doesn't "bode" well 4 other NPGMC members. If I were him, I would take that as a personal slap in the face. He invited "us" to his place and someone rips him off in his own house...Normally, I don't get bothered about audience recordings from the different tours...But this was in his own house...If it was released by someone in his inner circle than I bet he goes out on a "witch hunt" and who could blame him???

It wasn't planned. The lyrics to the bridge weren't on the lyric sheet he gave her. She knew they wouldn't be doing the bridge.

I don't think so! Some people knew exactly who was recording and how. They were in the audience.
I was told about it while it was going on, but I declined to meet them, 'cause I didn't want to get in trouble with security!

I've traded emails with Connie a while back (years), she's not part of Prince's camp!

Because people would bitch and scream at him for price gouging his fams over the $200 price tag. He was charging $60 for the 5 CD set of Crystal Ball and people complained about the price. People have also complained about the $100 for 4 CDs from the NPGMC membership.

A bootlegger and secondary market seller can get away with a high price, an "official release" can't. Just look at how much people are paying for the DOW single and the Hit 'n Run singles.

You people are SO unbelievably STUPID!

Why is it that you all seem to think Prince is the "mastermind" behind bootlegs???
Thi is the MOST absurd thing I have EVER heard! (Yet I seem to hear it all the time).
You all seem to have this wierd fetish to think Prince is conspiring and sneaking around and all this wierd top secret crap.
The first NIGHT someone was busted for taping the shows...
The second DAY I walk into the studio where they were playing the new NPGMC CD's and who is sitting at the board?
Let's just say that there were about SIX folks sitting AT the board and EACH one of them were there for more reasons than just seeing a Prince concert!
So how do you guys think these shows got out there?
Idiots...

Oh, and as far as the outtakes and older soundboard shows are concerned... I have a number of tapes in my personal collection that were given directly to females Prince may have been dating or "wooing" at the time of the recordings. This is NOT Prionce GIVING STUFF TO BE BOOTLEGGED... it's Prince not even having a THOUGHT about bootlegs because back then he was not so popular. He gave the tapes out as friendly gestures.
Take the Apollonia tape for instance... Apollonia was having trouble sleeping... So Prince records some songs and gives her a tape (some of the songs ended up on the Apollonia 6 record BTW)... The songs are not in circulation, but if they were... Would this mean Prince gave the tape just so that it WOULD be bootlegged?

God some of you people are stupid.

Well, that settles it then. Every woman who ever slept with Prince was given a tape of unreleased music that became a bootleg. Therefore, Mani is the mastermind behind the Xenophobia boot. wink razz

They weren't complaining about the $60 for the 5 CD's, they were complaining about the $35 shipping/handling costs, and the fact that a "Crystal Ball" was promised and not a "Plastic Puck" with 5 cd's crammed and jammed inside...

I just believe Prince doesn't really care about bootleggers that much. I mean, if someone is at the soundboard 20 metres away recording him who shouldn't be there, you think he or security might notice.

I've always thought bootlegs don't really harm an artist's bank balance. If you weren't going to release the live recording, you weren't going to make any money on it, therefore you haven't lost any. If you do release it, the fans would rather buy your high quality recording, therefore again you don't lose any money! Bit like downloading from the internet; because I download something from the internet, doesn't mean if that option is taken away I'm gonna go out and buy it, just means I'm gonna borrow it off a friend like before, so they don't really lose any money because they weren't gonna get any in the first place. Or maybe I'm just cheap.

I've always wondered where some of the high quality bootlegs come from. I would have thought each night there would be just one person doing the soundboard? Pretty easy to identify the bootleg leak then. Are all Soundboarder's corrupt then? Does he have to fire them every other night? How hard can it be to stop a soundboard tape from leaving with a bootlegger? "Errr, could you please hand over that bundle of tapes you're trying to hide under your jumper?"
