Strangest place/time you've heard Prince?

I ask as I've just heard the opening sequence for Get On The Boat as the background music for the competition at half time in the Middlesborough UEFA Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg game on ITV4 in the UK.

Where have you heard his music and thought: "What the hell?!?!?!"
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

about 3 months ago i was listening to Radio 4 (uk radio station, fantastically educational and entertaining programming courtesy of the BBC).

there's a weekly consumer affairs show on there called 'You And Yours', one of the few programmes i dislike on the station. anyway, they were running a story about the price of cashmere in the uk, and how large department stores are bringing the price down by buying in bulk - and guess what prince song they used to fade in and out between interviews?

you guessed it - 'pink cashmere'.

it was easily the most bizarre place i've heard a prince track used. 'You And Yours' is TERMINALLY unhip and middle-aged and awful.

I have one, but it wasn't his music.

Years ago, for my job, I was in Tennessee for a conference.
In the parking lot of some fast-food joint, I saw a some a fat, really red-neck looking guy (wearing his wife-beater 'n' all) standing next to his car & talking to a couple of police-officers. One of the windows of his cars was completely smashed out.
As I passed them by, I could hear him say, " Ah tellin' y'all, dem goddamn sumbitches stole mah Purple Rain CD raight straight outta mah car...!!"

In 1995, I was riding with some friends, who wanted to visit somebody they knew in the "hood" (in case you don't know, what Dave Chapelle said is true, a lot of black people don't feel comfortable in the ghetto either biggrin ). When we arrived at this house, which had several unsavory types (I don't need to give a description) hanging out in front, I was feeling a little reluctant to gett out of the car.

That's when I heard the most unlikely sound billowing out of this house. It was none other than, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" and noone seemed to mind. It somehow put me at ease. I figured if they were cool with that, then they were alright with me. cool

by the way/ btw, when mike said to me, that he was not going to give me a dime, i'd said before that, that if he was going to leave me, i'd want my sly & the family stone 'there's a riot goin'on' 4 track reel-2-reel back, or some cash. mike said, he's not giving me a dime. we're not mad at each other no more. i'd be a jerk, if i did not say the whole part of the story. actually, mike saying that is handsomely loving.

you people are real cool. thanks for not bashing us.

The Long Version of "Let's Go Crazy" was playing while I was shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond and I totally lost my concentration.

I was also in the same store around Christmas time and heard Wendy & Lisa's "The Closing of the year" and thought... how timely.

And a month ago....same store, The long version of "Kiss".

Must be satellite radio.

Years ago it was "Little Red Corvette".....well, a version of it, complete with a video of some sort in Chuck E Cheese...you know, the pizza place for kids with the games and stuff. It wasn't REALLY him, but it was the song.

When i was last in Amsterdam, i was perusing through the local shops on offer, and one i went into had a remix of Girls & Boys on some random local Ductch station. Was lovin' listening to this as i was shifting through the mulitude of hardcore pornography. It seemed so apt.....

A strip club....

No seriously, I was hanging out with this girl at a beach club in Northwest FL called FudPuckers (this was probably around 1996-97) and they were playing these miserable R&B slow jams quietly over the PA system (it was early in the night). It was bringing us down so hard I felt like crawling under the table for a snooze. Then, all of a sudden and quite unexpectedly, Alphabet St came on with the volume cranked up considerably and, like magic, the whole place came alive and an upbeat tone was set for the rest of the evening...later on they launched into P Control and the roof damn near came down. I guess it's not too strange to hear Prince in a night club, but I definitely wasn't expecting it (it seemed like Prince was already being shunned at the time), I certainly wasn't expecting a track as ancient as 1988 vintage, and I do remember thinking "What the hell???" the second I heard that distinctive Alphabet St percussion.

Also off topic, but quite hilareous, I think:

A man registered a complaint with the police because, when he wanted to report a domestic disturbance by phone, he was put on hold and had to listen to the song "love hurts" by Nazareth.

Not necessarily a strange place but I listen to the Jim Rome show from time to time and I could swear they use the music from "Now" as bumper music (going in and out of the breaks) some times.

Anyone else listen to Jim? Ever heard this or am I just imagining it or hearing something similiar?

In college there was a DJ on what could never be called a cutting edge radio station that took pieces of the Lovesexy album and used it as a lot of his bumper/background music. It was great, about every third song we got “have you had your plus sign today” or “What color is your money" quote or Glam Slam as the music bed for the weather!

Anyway, it was nice to hear some Lovesexy snippets on the radio circa 1990.

That DJ also did a call-in top ten thing so when New Power Generation was released, I had a bunch of my buddies call him up and I think we got it to #2 that night. My guess is that was the only time or place on the planet that song charted.

Otherwise, I heard The Greatest Romance Ever Sold in a CVS in 2002.

Before a Second City improv show I went to one night, the piped-in music before the show was about 80% Prince music.

About three years ago, my daughter's dance school put on their yearly extravaganza. The opening dance number was to "The Rest of My Life" off The Vault. I almost fainted, then resolved that my daughter would never change dance schools.

You're right, that's a loop of "Now". I'm a huge Rome fan. Can't wait for the Smack-Off this Friday! Go Terrance!

I'm glad you've started this thread, as I bore witness today to one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen: a street performer sat on a box dressed in silver, with his hands and face painted silver, not moving any body parts except his mouth, miming to 'When Doves Cry'...

Just...odd.

It's not really a strange place or time...but I heard the full version of "When Doves Cry" on the radio the other day. I had to check and see if I had somehow forgotten that I was listening to the CD...I rarely listen to the radio (unless I'm in a car and there are no tapes available) and it shocked me that they played the whole thing on the radio...is that normal? lol

In a pub here in Cyprus. They were playing the whole "Aladdin" concert on screen. Prior to that was when i heard "1+1+1=3" on radio. I think those two times were the only time that I heard Prince played in public over here the last ten years
