People spend WAY too much THINKING and not enjoying. That is a damn funky ass track...live it's going to be SICK then all the nay sayers will be singing it's praises. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

There hasn't been a single person who hasn't absolutely loved "Fury" when they hear it. I think it should be the next single. If marketed correctly (nothing with regard to 3121 has been), I guarantee it would be a hit in more than one music format.
I can't call it..."Fury" as an album cut is pretty good and the live version with the harder guitar work is even better....BUT, This is not the right single for 3121...As is, "Fury" will not attract the rock crowd or the R&B crowd (maybe if the guitar was more prominent in the mix, it would get some love from the rock formats); The right single choice would have been "Lolita"...It's an infectious pop track...nothing more nothing less; and it stands a chance of being embraced by the pop radio formats...I hope this is a curveball...

He'd be stupid not to release those two but wait a second, this is Prince we're talking about here. The king of bad choices. True...true.. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

The single will only work (no matter what it is) if there is an alternate version on it, a remix or an additional track we havent heard... Thats it.
If its like BS and exactly the same as the album version with no extra, who is gonna buy it? I wont be... It can be the greatest song he has ever written, it will sink like a lead balloon unless he gives his fans an incentive to buy it and get it noticed by everyone else...

I have no idea if Fury would be a hit or not. It's a great song live, but even if he performed it live, we've heard it twice now, so the 'wow' factor has kinda gone. yeah, maybe "FURRY"?

Yeah, FURRY - it's a brand new song from 3122, the follow-up to 3121. This is the album he was born to make, also containing the hit songs Black Sweater and Get On The Goat.

Who buys singles nowadays anyways? You would be hard pressed to find someone on the Org, for example, who wouldnt buy a new single with a [wicked] additional track not found on the album or a different version to the album track... lets say half the people who sent the album to no1 in the first week went out and bought such an enhanced single, how many copies would that mean? Enough to get the single in the top 5? Enough to get it noticed and played by radio, chart shows etc etc? I think so.

5/22 ??? 6 weeks?...the album will be dead in the water by then. Hopefully will be pushed to radio before then. But Fury should have been ready to go a week or two after 3121's release, esp when it became obvious Black Sweat wasnt doing anything. [Edited 4/12/06 7:12am]

Exactly ... No infectious hook for Pop radio . Too rock for R&B Good song but its just not a single. I think Prince got caught up in all the praise he got from it on SNL

[Edited 4/12/06 7:56am] I expect Fury will bomb, but more because it will unlikely get any more promotion or aiplay than Black Sweat got. It kind of seems there aren't many rock fans on this site, this is far more a rock song than anything else. However, it certainly isn't representative of the album as a whole, any rock fans who buy this album on the strength of Fury will surely be disappointed there are no other rock tracks. I don't really think any song on 3121 could be a hit without some deal to guarantee radio airplay. I like Love, but it is not much different to Black Sweat in genre and sound. Lolita is catchy, but it also has questionable lyrics, in that some lyrics are just plain bad while overall the subject matter of the song is dodgy, about whether or not to sleep with a very young girl. I reckon in the UK at least, DJs would have a field day ripping the shit out of that song if it was released, especially with all the tabloid stories about child pornography and internet grooming, etc.

If damn ass songs like "My Humps", "laffy taffy", and others can be "hits", why can't a Prince song? This is discounting the payolo factor of course.

I've argued this at length on other threads. Bottomline, DJs play what is 'in'. Prince is not 'in' anymore, respected, yes, but not 'in'. He's seen as someone who has their best days behind them and they're not interested in the effort it takes to revive interest in him. Heck, even having the number one album didn't create a surge of interest in DJs playing Black Sweat and therefore going up in the US airplay charts.

That cover looks hot. And Fury has the potential to be a great hit ..if he does a lot of live performances to back it and ..the single should have an alternate live version.
This song is awesome. The delivery ...the lyrics, the energy, the guitar. "One man's blues is another man's glory. Sun to a shadow, rose to a thorn -- there ain't no fury like a woman scorned. Oh no!"
