Without a question: Exodus. If you like The Gold Experience, see if you can get your hands on Exodus. It's not directly related, but it is a once-removed cousin or something. . .I've had tracks from it for a long time and then I finally won one on eBay. . .really great album, just listened to it a couple nights ago. . .

Exodus was a classic period in time. Come had just come out, followed by Exodus and the Gold Experience. NPG at it's funkiest best. NPS doesn't compare. Gold Nigga was superior even. While I like Come On and the remixes, sadly, I feel that 3121 reminds me of NPS most. I'm fond of Love, but it reminds me of NPS too. cracknbush

Man, there was some great stuff going on there! Imagine coming off the momentum of D&P & 0)+> then BAM - that stuff. Wow. Oh well, we still have most of the music. I think that era's sound (somewhat) is the reason I got chills when I heard the song 3121... Anyway, NPS is not in my playlist much. Spend lots of time with Exodus, buy NPS and just have it around. Peace and B Wild Y'all! I think that's kinda what I said. 3121 had Sonnny and Michael B. on it, but that kinda reminded me of the opening from NPS too. [Edited 4/27/06 22:05pm] cracknbush

pjcath said: I have to say after posting this thread I actually went back and listened to NPS twice in a row (ouch!) and it wasn't too bad. There are some horrendous tracks on it (the One, for example) but, as ever, there are some corkers too. I like the title track and the first half of the album.
Newpower Soul is a fantastic album! Exodus is more adventurous, though. gcu1 Just say "NO" to cow mucus consumption!

'EXODUS' has more swearing, is harder and funkier ... in a different way.
'Exodus' is actually a very fine album, although the Segues are a little overcooked. 'The Exodus Has Begun' is one of the funkiest songs Prince has ever done IMO. Also 'Big Fun', 'Return of the Bump Squad' and 'Hallucination Rain' are essentials. 'Hallucination Rain' is mad.

Wearing a hat of concurrence I am obliged to concur unequivocally with your astute and acutely accurate summation of said era. A rich vain of creation stemming not 3, but four albums as I bring to the table the often over looked C&D.

I always thought if the two were combined it would make a pretty cool album.
I made my own comp a while back... sifted through the filler on both and came up with this: 1. New Power Soul 2. Get Wild 3. Mad Sex 4. Wasted Kisses 5. Good Life 6. Come On 7. Count The Days 8. Return Of The Bump Squad 9. Big Fun 10. Hallucination Rain 11. The Exodus Has Begun That's all you need!

I prefer the mostly instrumental one from Exodus.
