What's Your Favorite Track Off Of 3121?

When I first heard "Fury" on SNL, I swore that, without even hearing the album, "Fury" was going to be my fave from the album. Wrong. My fave is the title track. From the beginning of the song, with the sped-up, slowed down early 80's P vocals to the groove to the hook to the guitar solo, this song is bangin'! What's your fave from this album?

There is a poll on the front page with this very question but for me the answer is probably "Satisfied". I really loved the entire album immediately and with each listen it is falling out of favor with me. Usually I have the opposite reaction with new Prince music.

Oh...didn't know that. Ooopps. Thanx for hipping me to it, cuz I sure wouldn't have ran this thread. The mods should lock this down then.

Yep I really liked Fury off of SNL. The recording sounds different but it's still ok.

My favorite track is...3121! I love it. It sounds like something that could have been off the black album. It really sounds like only Prince fans who have liked him for a long time would like and get you know? That is not why I like it though...and not because it sounds old school either...I like it when Prince tries new styles...I really like it cuz it's dark and funky! razz

Good thread Brutha B. I'm going with "Black Sweat". It just has that funk and groove all over it that screams "Black Album". Very "vintage" Prince.

The title track, hands down. I freakin' love it! The Camille backing vocals, the base, the groove, the beat - ooh, I'm getting all excited just thinking about it.

I'd put the songs in this order (from most to least favorite):
01. 3121
02. The Word
03. Fury
04. Love (i'm not crazy about the chorus, but I do like the verses, and it's a pretty catchy tune. Save for the chorus, it sounds kind of "Come"-esque to me. And sometimes, in all honesty, Tamar sounds a bit like Mayte)
05. Black Sweat
06. Get On The Boat (I love Sheila's percussion - man, do I miss Prince circa '88!)
07. Lolita (the keyboards remind me of old school Prince)
08. Beautiful, Loved, and Blessed (I like Tamar's vocals on this one)
09. Incense And Candles
10. Satisfied (like "On The Couch" part deux)
11. Te Amo Corazon (feels like a track from what could have been a Latin-flavored sequel to "Parade")
12. The Dance
"She made me glad to be a man"

I was really surprised at the poll responses where the word is number one. i like "love" the best because it has a good groove and the chorus is very catching, grooving, and moving. It may be a little too synth for some, but the synth is very simple yet very effective. Not too much overlay and speaks to how it wants you to move. It also flows after "insence and candles" in a brilliant manner.

I would say Satisfied could have been cut from the album and I would have never missed it. And believe this or not, but I think 3121 to be one of the weaker cuts from the album, EVEN THOUGH it is the strongest opening song since Purple Rain.

I'm happy to see him do an album that has good cuts all the way through again. Doing what he knows works. I enjoy all of the experimental years too, yes, even lovesexy, "Anatsesia" was a killer song. And he did come really close to a winner with the Gold Experience. "Billy Jack Bitch" isn't talked about too much but had a killer groove.

I remember buying a bootleg of the black album way back in the day, and there was song called Bob George, anyone remember that diddy. STRANGE. What did that have to do with this topic, I don't know.

So I have never been to a Prince concert. Why? I don't want to see him in person. I don't want to realize he really is short, I don't want to see him as another person just doing a job, and thats what you get at some concerts. I don't know why I am that way. Hm.

That leads me to say would I go see a 3121 concert? Probably not. But I would tell anyone who has ever been curious about seeing Prince to act on this now.
We are all so full of doody here

"3121" is definitely my favorite, and it has stiff competition from "Love" and "Fury". Nevertheless, "3121" is the best Prince song in over a decade, methinks.

Thanx player! Man, u and I , what the HELL happened to us with the Tower Records ordeal?! Seriously, that spelled u and me front and center. That's OUR haunting grounds, man. Damn! But yeah, I'm witcha on Black Sweat. That shit was probably written in 85-86 and a straight holdover from The Vaults!

Nice post. Bob George has a LOT to do with certain vibes from this album. The dark element that I hear in spots of this new joint. I dig and have always dug P's dark material. Bob George is HELLA classic! Who in the world would do a slowed down evil gangsta voice and then throw in some hellified rock guitar? P, that's who.

The Word was and is the one that hooked my from when I 1st heard it...still is my fave.

BUT...now that I have had it a week...other faves...3121, The Dance, Love, & Get On The Boat.

The one that totally disappointed me in the beginning, Fury, has also become one of my faves...its definitely a grower.
