1) It will give him clout for the future. Remasters? More experimental albums? Taking more risks? Bring it... 2) It will push him to stop sounding so fucking desperate. Looking for hits on Rave...talking about the bank all the time...whining about his masters constantly...maybe now he'll stop. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Well deserved! Finally some REAL music that tops the charts! And I do hope that "Black Sweat" finds his way to the top spot also!
(BTW, Prince, if you read this, please don't forget to include Belgium in your fothcoming tour, okay?)

I wake up... read the morning papers...and the good NEWS is that Prince is living the good life at #1!! In fact his first #1 in years... in fact the first #1 debut of his fuckin' career! I expect to see threads giving much props and what am I reading...? A shit load of peeps STILL HATIN'? What in the world does he have to do to satisfy a few of you so called FANS!!!! The album is classis Prince, Is it one of his best? Maybe... Maybe not. But regardless of what tracks you like and don't like... it delivers the goods to the die-hard fans as well as..... which is evident by the charts... ... his 'pop' fans. Yes... this album smells of pop appeal... so fuckin what... lots of his albums have which most of us consider his best work with Sign O' The Times, Gold and Purple Rain leading the way. But it does so while delivering the Funk, the Rock , the R&B... hell.. it delivers P-P-P-PRINCE!!! Everything does not have to be so in-accessible to the general public and a large percentage of even his die-hard fans as TRC to be considered 'good music'. Good music is only as good as the person who listens to it believes it is. Just because some of you wanna be music experts may not like some or even all of the tracks on this album DOES NOT MAKE IT A BAD ALBUM w/ BAD MUSIC. Nearly 200,000 of the popular public which includes some die-hard prince fans...were counted to have purchased the album after hearing TAC, Black Sweat and some even Fury... three tracks which are at best considered across the board to be average (in Prince terms which still means good ) at best tracks! And we know many many more has the album beyound those numbers. We die-hard fans don't need charts to tell us what's good or not.. we've always been attracted to the gems NOT played to the masses... but record companies, concert promoters, radio programmers etc etc....DO!!! So be happy that there are some tracks on this album which has apparently captured some amount of 'pop appeal' or at the very least will once heard... so that we the die-hard fan...can savor in the fruit of more fans... more concerts... more TV appearances... more ... P-P-P-PRINCE!!! #1 is a great feat! If the album is marketed and promoted correctly and the RIGHT singles released... it could account for 'Musicology like' numbers or greater with out the benefit of a revolutionary marketing scheme. THANK YOU!!!! PREACH!!! When it comes to some of these so-called fans, who are really wolves in sheep clothing, this saying fits them perfectly: "With friends like you, who needs enemies." DITTO!

Missy said: Cool....so he's #1!! Congratulations to the one and only, Prince. It's great that he's finally on top again.
Too many people think he's faded out or is gonna retire from the music world. Truth is, he's not. He's definitely here to stay and take over, and I'm all 4 it. He really surprised me in 2004 with his music video "musiciology" on MTV, and I was like "Prince?? With a VIDEO??? That's cool!!!" and I remember my brother and grandmother looking at me like "What's wrong with her?? And plus, who's Prince??" and when I told them who he was and that he's back, they were like"OH, That Prince. He came back, huh??" Almost like he came back to life from the 80's and popped right into the millinium. I call that a smooth comeback. I'm so excited 4 him. I'm hoping to buy his album soon. Fingers crossed!! Prince has ruled again. awesome post! thanks

No. I didn't check. Who cares? We're celebrating aren't we? I don't tend to like celebrations unless they're for prince. Most people would celebrate anytime, anyday. Prince, i know you're outther. people actually appreciate your contribution no matter what the charts say. You're the source not the charts. We're celebrating you, i hope you don't mind. renfield said: WOW. Holy cow. I can't believe it. Prince has the number one album in America. It's been a very looooong time since I've seen this. Just a few years ago I couldn't have imagined he would ever be on top again.
Charts don't make music better, but I'm very happy for this. It's vindication. Not for me, what do I need vindication for? It's vindication for Prince. All those years (namely the years) his fight to be his own artist was mocked. He became a joke and his status as a future legend was in doubt. And to be fair, to a large extent, he brought it on himself. But here we are now, in 2006. I can certainly understand how this means nothing to a lot of people. But to me, Prince being back at number one, on his own terms, is like the Kid coming out on stage, clearing his throat, and leading the band into "Purple Rain." People doubted, and most considered him finished, but when it really counted he proved he still had it. I know this will likely be a blip on the map in the grand scheme of things, but I just think this is awesome. [Edited 3/28/06 14:10pm] I agree! These days they play more Prince music than be4,because the new album is well received! And U are so right what concerns the years. A lot off people din't take him serious anymore, destroying his legend status!!! Love4oneanother

You mean to tell me this album is only gonna have a one week run at no. 1? sheeesh - If Prince/Universal don´t start promoting a very commercial song like ´Incense and Candles´, it will probably drop. Let´s face it...so far, the other acts in the Top 10 aren´t that strong...

You mean to tell me this album is only gonna have a one week run at no. 1? sheeesh Once again, big deal. A lot of albums these days debut at #1 and then take a steep fall. The difference is someone like Prince can bump the album back up the charts with a major tour or TV appearance (like how Barry Manilow's former #1 album was bumped back up to #4 after a steep tumble because of his guest appearance on "American Idol"). Plus with the cachet of a #1 album, radio programmers may be kinder to Prince's next single.

Well, actually Prince had not gone anywhere,....Music did, music had died. People rapping about stuff they should b arrested 4, was nothing 4 any1 to dance 2 and certainly does not make "me" happy. As much as i think Tupac was a lyrical geninus, I am still very happy 2 see tha Resurrection of Prince and Tru-Music. Prince is Some0ne that is truly gifted and talented in every aspect,And knows the intention of what Music means and how it is suppose 2 make one feel,I have always believed that Prince has been chosen 2 Create Music that makes us Happy and want 2 celebrate. instead of music that makes U afraid, and wanna cry, r make us angry. fake music wounded Real Music, now Real Music Reigns once again, and I always want 2 see u laughin and playin,in tha Purple Rain.4ever and ever, Amen?. this really doesn't surprise me. if the music industry was in the state now that it was ten years ago, there's no way that Prince would ne number one.
i think all the parameters that exist in the modern music industry climate made it easier for someone like Prince to get to number one.

Those that say that P lost the plot in the 90’s is not a reflection on his music of that period, rather it exposes those who just want P to record whatever junk that will get him back in the charts. So they can say to their friends ‘Look at my poster boy, I’m still relevent!’ The sad thing is that P has cottoned on to this fact and has stopped taking risks. You should all be ashamed.
