I'm a diehard Prince fan....am thrilled with 3121...

But I just listened to a cd "The Beautiful Experince" live...

and I remembered how I never could stand all the songs that came from that period that he played relentlessly...

I hated these songs!!!

The only one I thought was pretty good was "shhhhh".

Funny how some eras rub you the wrong way isn't it?

The live versions of Days of Wild, Now and The Ride from that Beautiful Experience tv special were hot. I consider them as the "origi´nal" versions because by the time The Gold Experience was released 1.5 years later my ears were already too familiar with those versions, so the "official" versions paled in comparison.

"Shhh" is a killer song, especially THAT particular version... the NYC Palladium 94 version also kicked some serious ass.

OH I love those kinda songs! That era musically really was fun and exciting. Although Prince's look was...err...I don't know I didn't think he looked particularly nice..he lost too much weight, his hair didn't look nice...he looked pissed off all the time...I mean I was still attracted to him because he was Prince. I had a bad feeling around that time that he might commit suicide or something. Then when he married Mayte I knew he'd be ok. ( I love Mayte!)

But musically the most boring period to me was 2001-up untill Musicology. I was getting scared that I'd see him in Vegas singing show tunes.

He definitly had passion in his performances of those songs and his angst against the establishments really set him off in a interesting direction

I think this is the first time I've heard someone
say they didn't like Days of Wild.
I always thought it was a universally loved song among Prince fans.
Its such a live standard of his plus the fact
that he never put out an official studio version.

well, there was a version on crystal ball, right? and that cd single thinger. so it WAS officially released, but kinda after the fact...

I love that era too! Something very dirty and grungey about that era, with all the swearing and deep bass and drum sounds.

His look scared me the most during this period, and I didn't care for his stage antics (he pretty much used Mayte as a stage prop) but I actually liked the music from this period. What I can't stand are the backing vocals from "NPS" and "Slaughtherhouse". Someone tell those women to shut up!!

This definately my second favorite Prince period behind the mid eighties. Unfortunately, the albums released during this time don't tell the whole story. Come, Chaos & Disorder and even The Gold Experience could have all been so much better with different versions of some songs and the inclusion of certain tracks that weren't released at all. The live performances were great as well, including Mayte !

To me this was his best Era. That big hat with the flower on it, cool as hell. He just didn't a f*ck, what anyone thought about him. It was like we had this secret and no one else knew how good 's music was at the time.

Best show I've ever been to (and I've been to a bunch) is the Paladium in '94.

Although heavily over-produced in some areas, T.G.E. was a great album, and you could tell that regardless of what was going on behind the scenes, he really believed in what he had created. It's just a shame that vision got lost along the way in all the hyperbole.

For me, 'The Beautiful Experience' TV special is a really cool little point in Prince history, where he was just literally brimming over with ideas, and enthused as all hell about embracing all this new technology like the internet and trying to integrate it somehow into his music etc. It did however stray off the beaten track somewhat a year or two down the line, but hey - you can't knock the guy for trying.

Prefer the Studio Version of Days Of Wild. More like the Black Album.

Now is a classic rap song, complete with a rocking beat and sound. You have a tin ear.

Interactive is a trifle, but a neat one.

The Ride has been done a million times, and there are many great live versions. Keep the best version and loose your mind in the groove. You must be a hater. bah.

Anything from 0+>, The Gold Experience, The Undertaker, The Beautiful Experience, Come, Chaos, and even NPS are high on my list. I really miss this era. So damn much energy. Not too mention Mayte's ass. I guess thats why Im so excited about the twins. Its good to see some eye candy up on stage with him again.

Hey, I really think it's great that so many of you love this era. That's the beautiful thing about music--Prince music---it's so personal. Graffiti Bridge has a special place in my heart because of that particular summer in my life. Same with NPS, which many fans hate. I found it enjoyable and really tight production wise...

That was one of the best times to be a Prince fan in my honest opinion.

During the 1993 - 1995 period, Prince , or as he wanted to be called ws doing some very wild things with his music. He was very prolific at that time, and his material was first rate, if a bit commercial sounding.

It was exciting.
I mean, hearing him proclaim "Welcome 2 the Dawn" instead of "may you live to see the dawn" which was on all his pre-symbol era albums. One got the feeling that he really was going to usher in an age of unprecendented musical output. Claims like "music should be free", and news of an upcoming "Opera" and "ballet" score penned by were very exciting. Proclaimations that the old Prince material was dead to him now, and that his new stuff was "so much better" made me lick my lips anticipating the years to come.

Of course, after 1995, I started to realize that it was just the rantings of an unhappy egomaniac. The Dawn ended up being nothing special, the ballet score gives me constipation, and the free music ended up cost 50 bucks on luv4another.com if you were lucky enough not to be doublcharged and have to wait a year to recieve your music. The dream didn't last. And I think most people remember the fallout and associate it to the entire span of the Symbol years. In fact, it was only the later part of the 90s were it got really bad. Early on, Prince put out some first rate albums. COME and GOLD are among his best albums (imperfect but filled with undeniable gems).
