lol

Rave, the song, didn't start generally circulating until the late 90s, and any complete configuration of the album has never surfaced thus far, so you can be assured, this isn't about the 1988 album!

Well, the early version of this song can be heard from various concert boots, and can be anywhere from 5-15 mintues long, depending on which other songs are inserted. But the album version, of course, didn't appear until the '99 album. It's a shame, too, cuz if the song had been released aroun 87-88, it would have been a smash. It is, to my knowledge, either the first, or one of the first, songs to have the reference "Mack Daddy" in it (years before Kris Kross came along.) Yet another time when he did it first.

You know, I *really* think it wouldn't have! lol

The song was *completely* out of date, regarding the pop charts. And even beyond that, it just really was not a very good song at all.

That's the whole funny thing regarding the Rave (99) album - Prince picked one of the most flacid, tame songs of his entire back-catalogue to base a new project around!!

The released version is just too slow and sounds unfinished, like he left off a couple of instruments. If it were sped up to the tempo it's worked into Batdance at, yes, I could see it having been a successful single (much as Batdance itself was).
it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

The original version of Rave was recorded during the Lovesexy tour in 1988 in London.

Hence Rave In2.

I'm taking it you haven't heard Rave In2 because that version does just what you say...much better than Un2 I think.
