The class of 1958

Once again Madonna and Prince are going head to head. Prince smoked her in sales on his hits tour. Do you think he'll do it again? You know I used to really like Madonnas music a lot, but she's just released a ton of crap that all sounds the same.
Michael still hasn't released his long awaited single for Katrina. His last few albums have also tanked. I don't think he'll ever tour again. So I'm thinkin' Prince will come out ahead of this class of 1958.

If we're talking bout musiscianship Prince is numer one, two and three!
Madonna is no musiscian and not a well singer either, she's just a media icon who can dance a bit and who likes 2 jump on the bandwagon each two or three years
And michael, ... he's just being himself... confused He got some funk, it just dissapeared a while ago i guess.

Frankly its not about winning. If you're talking about sales then its MJ. If you're talking about the ability to stay relevant and to reinvent their sound / image and stay fresh, its Madonna. If you're talking about sheer musicianship / songwriting then its Prince hands down. All are good at different things.

Taking stock of the bigger picture Madonna is sane, got 2 lovely kids, is fighting fit, is exceedingly wealthy and still having number 1 hits, you could say its her. On the other hand, Prince seems extremely content with where he is right now, confident in his music and his position in music history, and just enjoying life. His new albums gonna be great, his new tour will be huge. I guess MJ casts a sadder and more desperate character, but i think his problems are deep rooted and its a shame to let the last decade taint the talent he shone with from 70-90.

Like I say you can qualify winning in many senses. For me personally Id rate Prince & Madonna on a tie as i get different things from both of them, but couldnt say who I prefer. I like MJ's older stuff and wish he'd discover his old self, but fear that will never ever happen.

yeah that's true but i don't respect a 48 year old woman dancing in bathing suit on some abba sampled disco house. Just 'trying' 2 stay relevant. She changes her image 2 much in order 2 stay in the charts (wich she does well in terms of succes and sales)...

Maybe not but i respect the physical dedication it must take to stay in that kind of shape at her age. Besides Madonnas post 98 output is better than anything put out by Prince or MJ in that time, particularly Ray Of Light and Confessions. Dont get me wrong, Prince was untouchable in the 80's and he spent that decade writing the book on how to make music of genius proportions, but on those two albums in particular, Madonna has made some fantastic pop music.

I like a lot of what Prince does now. I love the Rainbow Children, i liked Musicology, and my hopes for 3121 are very high, but i dont see it as being very now, and I seriously doubt, stunts aside he could put out an album that would sell more than a couple of million off the back of its quality. As for MJ, well his music got lost somewhere a long long time ago so its not even worth going there.

I guess my point is that a lot of people try to belittle madonna with the "dancing round in a leotard" type comments, but at the end of the day she's the only one who seems really bothered about making great albums and videos for her fans anymore. I respect not everyone like madonnas music, it doesnt cater to the American taste at all, but i think its plain to see madonna puts alot more into her career still than Prince or MJ.
