Every musician you played it to today instantly knew that Prince ripped off Do Me Baby from Frantic Moment? I think not. You told us to tell you that you're wrong, and I'm telling you that you are wrong.
But, like I said, we'll just wait while people that check out the track weigh in with their opinions.

It went something like this: Yo, check this out and tell me where you have heard this track. I play the track, they respond, "oh that's prince". I say Prince what? They say, "do me baby". I say no it's not, it's Eddie hazel.....Then I pull out Prince's version and play it. We all just sit here in silence. Now that I have painted a picture, u don't have to add your own RANDOM thoughts to the process. Dig?

don't worry about it Graycap23, it's obviously the same musical idea, whether or not it is an intentional rip or a subconscious one is a mystery, but it happens all the time to great artists as they pull from their musical vocabulary which is formed by all that they have ever heard. I'm finding out these days that John Williams (movie composer) has lifted many ideas and arrangements from classical pieces before his time.
there are many other prince songs that also lift melodies or ideas from previous artists songs.... like Erotic City from White Horse, but that's the nature of pop(ular) music as a genre. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I agree with you 100%. In this case, I was just so surprised that it's Prince and it's so close to the original. I would have never believed it if I had not hear it for myself. -Mg

Why are poeple so shocked when they learn that no matter the genius Prince is... he is still a human being first and susceptable to the same daily influencs the rest of us are.
Wow... so what if Andre heard a rift and subconciously played it in a jam session So what if an immature Prince ( he was late teens early 20ish around this time) did the 'crime' of using a friends rift in a song, He tried to make ammends. Mores o than any thing else... THIS ONE SONG DID NOT MAKE OR BREAK THE CAREER OF PRINCE in fact, it's usually not mentioned as one of the best tracks from the Controvery album. When compared to the hundreds of songs Prince has authored SOLO prior and since, as well as the few which he shares some sortof credit for... the issolated few which may have questiobable origins only prove that he is still human.

Here's a link to the piece from the track (Eddie Hazel's "Frantic Moment") I was sent - let the jury decide and the discussion continue...

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=08AQE2HO Note for note? No, I don't hear that. However, after giving the track multiple listens, I can definitely hear what Graycap23 was talking about. And I apologize for being such a prick. Can I get some salt with this crow? [Edited 2/26/06 6:08am]

OK I still don't hear it. At what timeframe in the song does it come in? Is it in the bass, keyboards, guitar? Help me out here..... I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I'll give you this:
It is exactly the same chord progression. That much is entirely the same. Prince may have changed key, I haven't analaysed it that far, but the intervals and tonality of the chords is EXACTLY THE SAME. This could be a common progression among funk players of the time, however.

Nevermind that he did not write Dance Electric but he did not have any trouble going along with the public thinking he wrote it back in "85" Oh really? Well I'll have to pull Andre's "AC" album when I get home but I do believe that Prince is listed on it. ----- Well if P is mentioned on the record as the writer than Andre could have turned the song down. After all he is the one that goes around bitching about how he could have done this or that if P had not stolen this song from him. Andre could have just not worked with P ever again in life but he did. So my guess is he was not that upset about it and he needs to stop bitching and get over it. He had his chance with Jodi Watley and he fucked that up by all accounts. Anyway it is Andre's word agaist P since know one else has backed up the story.
