Just do Paisley Park is in your heart psychadelic rock with Wendy and Lisa, Bobby Z and Dr Fink.

Miss anything out there? neutral

So you would rather added someone like Bobby Z over like Brownmark to your so-called list. disbelief Brownmark put way more to the table than Bobby Z could ever dream of whilst he was with Prince.

This should be emblazoned on the home page.

Forgot Tony M. He needs his own individual mention apart from The Game Boyz as with Kirky. But otherwise yeah. biggrin

Prince's first fucking album was For You, a damn R&B ALBUM!! Where do we get these newbies? Prince was first influenced by both James Brown and Stevie Wonder, both R&B performers-get the idea? Prince does it all, but he has always remained an R&B artist, with an eclectic streak, kind of like Sly and PFunk. Just let him be what he needs to be and all will be well with the world. Prince won't listen to you anyway.

I love the R&B and funk side of P. We should be happy with what we get because one day we will look up and there will be no more. It is so hard for keep everybody happy, I can remember when crystal ball came out and people were complaining. eek WHAT eek This brotha just hooked us up with stuff from the vault and people are complianing. Yes I will admit there are some songs out there I wish he would release but I am very happy that we follow someone that gives us a little something once every year or two. Think about the poor MJ followers wink What have they gotten latley?

I like all of Prince's styles but i do think he does rock n'roll the best. This is not to say his rnb or funk output isn't stellar, it is!

I think Prince is at his best when he's managed to marry all of these styles together. Lovesexy, Sign O' The Times, Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999...all the classics combined these styles. Prince seems to get "lost" when he tries to nail himself to one sound; musicology worked because of the vast styles bubbling under the surface while newpowersoul fizzled because he pigeonholed himself and stifled the creative juices.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to 3121. At worst it will be better than most stuff shoved down my throat.

I'm all FOR electronic music if done well. I got tired of that "real music for real musicians" stint fast. My favorite Prince albums (and albums by anyone, for that matter) utilize synths in a wonderful, musical way.

But I do love "Fury" most of the 4 new songs we've heard. I'm just excited that they all seem quite different yet are all decent in my estimation.

BTW, Prince does everything "best". Honestly, that is why he is so highly regarded musically nowadays. We, as ultimate Prince fans, cannot see nor comprehend it? confuse The man doesnt just excell at Rock or R&B or Pop only it's everything meshed together in a mixture of cement that is one of the many foundations for the School of Real Music! Come on ya'll. He's not best at one, he's best at all! nod music dancing jig heart

Think about it...EDIT!

Great Points! What is great about Prince is that he makes simple preconceived ideas about genre disappear. His brilliant musical mind has so many influences of sound. Think about it, this is an artist who loves Sly, Joni, Miles, JB, Ani Difranco, Santana, Psychedelic Funk/Rock, Mahler, Fishbone, Gang of Four, etc. He's the ultimate sponge. I believe that a lot of great artists don't let the limitations of radio playlists and corporate driven categories stand in the way of creating brilliant music. Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder and other greats would laugh at the notion.

With all the R&B bashing you would think that "Rock" music would be thriving. There's a lot of crap out there in all genres. And the artists cited as "Rock" all have been influenced by R&B, Blues and whatever you want to classify it.

The problem with Prince hyping "real music" with Musicology is that small minded people would interepret that as a limited idea of what creating music is. He should've been promoting the return of "soul" music. Missy Elliot, Pharell, and many of the new breed of producers are making creative "real" music. A great song is a great song, it doesn't matter if it was produced in a small Sun Records studio with a 4 Track machine or in a reclusive, obsessive Minneapolis genius' home studio with a Linn Drum machine programmed for sounds that no other human could envision.

Prince loves Mahler? That's cool! Where and when did he mention that?

On the song "Good Love",he makes a reference to Mahler

Gustav Mahler No.3 is jamming on the box

How in the hell are you gonna ask an artist who got his start and made his mark in R&B to STAY AWAY from R&B? wacky

In the beginning, it was only the R&B stations who promoted "Sexy Dancer" and "Soft & Wet". For all who don't know, the man's roots are definately R&B..

Between white and black, night and day, black night seemed like the only way, so I danced. Music late, nothing great, no way to differentiate, I took a chance.

Playing a guitar doesnt = great musician. Infact he showcases his great musicianship mostly in songs that arent typical 'rock'. ?
He is nowhere near Robbie Williams or Duran Duran - is that how you see him?

What?
All his music is 'real', it cant exactly be'fake' can it!?
[Edited 2/21/06 3:28am]

Are u saying that P's guitar playing doesn't make him a great musician?!?! eek Did i say he is on the same level as RW and Duran Duran? No i didn't... i think u need to read my post again... BTW "bunnyman" is my personal favorite account of yours.

P.S. Real music is made by "musicians" using "instruments" did the Musicology era teach u nothing?? didn't u see the tour??

You or I don't know the actual reason why Brownmark had no lines in PR.

What does that have anything to do with his talented as a bass player and a producer? Prince had said something like if weren't for Brownmark's bass then he was going to take bass out of his music. He never said that about Bobby Z in regarding to his drum playing. Go listened to Mazarati's album that Brownmark produced. That is a good album and too bad it never got the recognition that it deserves. Also Brownmark made another album a few years ago called It's been a while. Those albums shows his skills as a good bass player and a producer too. Depsite what Prince felt about Brownmark even he always gave the man his props.

Maybe I got a little emotional on here because sadly I am one of few biggest Brownmark fans on here. But if you guys don't like him that is cool, but don't underestimate his skills.biggrin
