"Chocolate" Appreciation Thread

C'mon y'all.

Show some love for this funky jam!

It's one of my top Time tracks...and the music is all Prince I believe (I have hte original with P doing his Jaime Starr voice on lead).

"We can't just leave it like that..... we need some horns... horns stand up!"

It's a crying shame that The Time's version of Prince's "Databank" didn't turn out nearly as well as their version of "Chocolate" -- "Chocolate" is as essential of a Time track as "Jungle Love." It's a pure funk and fun. I thought that "Databank" fell completely flat compared to P's version. Or maybe it's just that their version of "Chocolate" was so damn good and fun.

Glad I'm not the only one who loves this smile

They never play it in their shows sad.

I don' tknow why cus live they tear it up as usual. Their performance on SNL is even funkier than the album track..... they change up the tempo during the "when I Sleep, I dream of you" part, and then go back to the original groove.

Really? You should check out Time's version.

The music is the same but better quality (I dont' htink the're an official release of the original is there?)

But Morris actually pulls off the attitude better. There's also more of a bit with interplay between the "waiter" that Prince is playing and Morris at the end, and the extended "horns" part.

Aren't they exactly the same, except Morris on lead vocals, and it goes on longer?

yeah...it's longer and there's a little more added to the time's version, but both versions are essentially the same.

I have The Time's version on 12" vinyl, but I do like Prince's version more:

mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffin', green beans
chitlins, candied sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, grits, cabbages
I can say anything I want to, y'all can't fuck with me, look out, I'm too old!

Yeah, but it's cut off. It's used as "Prince the waiter" reading off the menu. The part about "I can sing anything I want to, y'all can't fuck with me" isn't there. That's the Princiest part!

I was listening to my all-Prince iPod shuffle this morning while I was waiting for the bus (yes, I am in Total Fambot Mode and filled the damn thing with nothing but Prince) and when Cloreen Baconskin came on I was in the deepest groove! I hardly noticed when the bus came. I'm all, "hah-tah-tih-dah-taaah uh!" and shit, and for some reason people were moving away from me. I think it's 'cause I'm so cool they were intimidated and stuff. nod

There was a CD maxi-single for Chocolate, too...mostly "house" type remixes, but I remember there being an acapella version (basically with the music track turned wwwwwaaaaay low and Morris' voice at the forefront)...pretty cool.

Really? I tihnk it is. just really low. I'll have to go back and listen again.

I thought about getting a custom color purple iPod at Colowarepc and filling it was all prince and related artists stuff. I couldn't decide which accent color to use on the click wheel

Damn you can't save gifs anymore, but which is more prince:

Body color: Mystique or Prowler

Wheel Color: Ferrari or Candy Apple?

Persistence, patience and perserverance is the key -- especially if you ever get your hands on Kamasutra.
