How would it be pitiful? What if they genuinely just can't get into it? Should they force themselves to like it? The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

The songs ok, from what I heard on the radio, I'd have to hear it with headphones on to decide if it's just annoying as all get out.
But I must say as long as no rappers and over the top crap are in the album version it probably won't be an automatic skip over for me. Is it pre-packaged and commercial ...probably. But, if it wasn't then it wouldn't get played on the radio. That's just the way it is now days. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm not really feeling this song. It's alright, but doesn't excite me. It doesn't sound like old school Prince to me, more like Rave-era stuff. A little chicken scratching throughout might have improved it a little. Minimalist is one thing, but you don't have to get economical on the quality too!
It's just not very interesting, for me. The opening reminds me of late 90s west coast hip-hop. The hook is ok, but nothing spectacular, and where are the perfectly placed musical flourishes you normally get from Prince? Then the song just ends, just like that, without so much as a solo, a scream, or coda. If pushed I'd have to say I prefer Te Amo Corazon, so that should tell you how I feel about this one. It's Prince, his finger desperately trying to find the pulse but missing, and letting other artists and styles distract him and put him off his game. ... [Edited 2/2/06 18:28pm]

It's like he's being distracted into compromising his music by other artists, what's popular, what's selling. It's not effortless for him like a Prince song where he just loves the track and is feeling it and it comes across naturally. I don't sense that from this one. He's trying here, whereas to me it normally feels like he just plays what feels good and we happen to think it's great.

Thought the song was original...the arpeggiated keyboard on the chorus was neat...sounds obviously edited from what will be on the album with the quick ending...the slow chant at the breakdown didn't help the already slow tempo..In my opinion needed a burst of energy, like a melting guitar shriek... Of course I'm from the large crowd who's still waiting for up tempo high energy vigorous and exciting music.

He borrowed the chorus of The Work pt1 and put it on a beat...he could write dozens of songs like this one in a week. Musically speaking, I prefer Te Amo Corazon. But as I said in another thread, I hope he finally gets the ´hit´ that he is so obssessive with since Rave days. Maybe it will give him some peace of mind to work on ´songs´...

How would it be pitiful? What if they genuinely just can't get into it? Should they force themselves to like it? I think the theory is that its just not possible to dislike the song. So if you say you don't like it, you're lying, presumably to get the kind of enormous adrenalin rush that only communicating feigned disapointment to anonymous internet forum readers can provide. Thank you!!!!! I love Prince to death. But this shit sounds like he took about 5 steps backward. This could have easily fit as one of the better tracks on New Power Soul. Even though I dug Te Amo Corti... damnit!!! Corazon... This song is just as vomitrocious as Life O' The Party. Beautiful Loved and Blessed isn't too bad (ain't too good either), but Black Sweat is the song I'm hoping is not indicative of what 3121 sounds like. However I won't make prejudgments yet. All of the singles so far have been on opposite angles as far as the styles. Here's hoping that 3121 is a completely mixed bag of predominantly interesting material

Just heard the Song a view times.
I have to say,i do like it. Beats are Great!!!Just Simple and Nice and Funky!!! Not too commercial. His singing is great, too. But even that i do like this chorus much more that the Te-Amo-One(I like the song, but hate the hook),to me it still is a bit to monotone. We'll c in a week..... **...KAY IN DC....**

exactly, it just sounds like a totally backwards-sounding/-feeling track to me. just another case of the brotha trying to actually fit in a bit, seems like. This song is just as vomitrocious as Life O' The Party. Beautiful Loved and Blessed isn't too bad (ain't too good either), but Black Sweat is the song I'm hoping is not indicative of what 3121 sounds like.

Here's hoping that 3121 is a completely mixed bag of predominantly interesting material i haven't heard "blb" yet, so i dunno about that one. i ain't gonna write it off just yet, either. i'ma write off these first two singles, but not the whole entire thing. i'm thinking that there'll be at least a couple tracks on the thing that'll make it salvageable.

Black Sweat and Beautiful Love and Blessed are ten times better than Te Amo Corzon whatever and almost nearly 100 times better than Musicology.
I am just feeling those two new songs and I do trust my ears when I hear some good music. Okay maybe the songs aren't so complex and also he's is going after the latest trend hoping for a big hit but so what, nothing wrong with that? but still in my opinion I am really digging for those songs. I haven't feel so excited like this since 1996 during his Emancipation era when I was jamming on songs like Betcha Golly Now and Somebody Somebody. Hell I wasnt too excited two years when he did Musicology as I am feeling right now. For a minute there Prince had scared me when he released Te Amo Corzon but still after he said the album doesn't reflex his first single, I still have hope and confidence that there is going to be some likable songs. And after I heard Black Sweat, I must say that the old Prince I came to love is back. I even start to like Beautiful, Love, and Blessed. And he is off to a great start, keep up the awesome work. Now I am going to listen to Black Sweat again.

OK, I just heard it, and...
I like it! More reminiscent to me of "Big Tall Wall's" vocal arrangement over "Bob George's" beat than "Kiss," as most people mention. (And it's somehow also slightly reminiscent of a stripped down "Shockadelica" in feel.) That said, it's very sparse and -- praise be to Jehovah -- funky! FINALLY Prince drops us something funky! And I don't mean I-wanna-be-James-Brown funky... I mean PURPLE funky! It's got some weak spots: I think the chorus is wack; at least one alto female voice in the background would be sexy (maybe a pissed off French girl or Latina ); and I'd have liked some nastier rhythm guitar and/or a downright FILTHY quicky guitar solo (a la "I Hate U") somewhere near the end. But these things could be fleshed out in a ferocious club version. Best beat in a Prince song in years, by the way! (The Linn sound, albeit far more reined in, is back. ) And two of the most attitudinal lines I've heard him utter in ages: "You better take yo' woman and hide," and "You'll be screamin' like a white lady when I count to 3." I hope he goes for blood with this one. If it doesn't sell tons of CDs, at least it'll put him back on the dancefloors... and he didn't even have to disrespect women or threaten to shoot someone.
