PRINCE and EWF Having just listened to th ebest of Earth Wind & Fire, i am convinced that the Vocal style of Prince would have been very different had this group not existed. True its not news to anyone that they played a major part in his influence, as he has frequently stated himself, but it would be interesting to know how Prince would sound today without their influence [Edited 1/18/06 7:05am] | |

interestingly,when Prince signed to Warner Bros. in 1977,they wanted Maurice White of EW&F to produce his debut album.I wonder what that album would have sounded like.
Prince later worked with EW&F,giving them the song "Super Hero",which appears on their 1993 album 'Millenium'. | |

interesting, so the falsetto in the early days was because of Phillip Bailey's influence on the sound of pop music?

This is just my opinion but I think P got got a lot of his concepts from EWF. (Even though he didn't want to be produced by Maurice or Verdine.)
The spin-off group thing. EWF had The Emotions and Pockets. Maurice had his own studio and label. Wireless mics, Boogie Amps, Seinheiser Mics. And he shared the same management with them after Owen. He just took things in his own direction.
