This is a very good question. Out here in L.A., in 82, KDay used to play this more than anything else off of this album. Followed closely by "Lady Cab Driver". Of course, neither ones were A - Side singles. KDAY played them cuz they were funky as hell and it was an audience for that. DavidEye made a good point that WB pushed more for the "pop" oriented material as singles. Why in the world would they choose "Delirious" as a single? Ya'll know there was much better material on there than that. Same as "Let's Pretend We're Married". Cool song and all, but not for a single. Unless they were striving for that MOR audience. Which is what they got. P and WB KNEW they already had the black market.

Thank GOD for Black radio.....

Only they would play the non-singles and the B-Sides....biggrin

Back in the day!!!

it was a hit in the SF bay area!!!

nod KSOL played that song to death, and so did KDIA

I guess I was too young at the time. I remember KSOL and vaguely KDIA (which wasn't an R$B station, was it?) but I don't remember DMSR being played.

coolcat

It certainly should have been released as a single... It is one of those anthem type songs that would have really caught on IMO. It has one of the catchiest chorus' ever...

What's more memorable... "We will, we will rock you!" or "Ooooh! Alright! Dance Music Sex Romance!" ??

I agree with everything that is being said other than the fact that "Let's Pretend We're Married" is a MOR single. Are you kidding? That song is quite out there, even by 1999 standards! lol

Yes,KDIA was an R&B radio station, based in Oakland. It was an AM station that finally shut down in the mid-90s.I loved this station because they routinely played alot of "non-hits" and album tracks.

Not sure how old you are,but in late 1982 and throughout most of 1983,both KSOL and KDIA played "DMSR" regularly,as if it was a single.

Same here! Do you remember when they used to play entire albums every night at Midnight? I recall KSOL playing the entire '1999' album at Midnight on the night before Thanksgiving '82,and again on Christmas Eve 1982.

DMSR

DMSR is still the JAM. I love how the beat starts off real spare then kicks in with some percusssion and more synth, funky guitar, and what a bass line...

I'm glad Prince recognized his fans wanted it live on the last tour. He hadn't played a full version in awhile.

can't say I recall that for sure, but I do remember other moments and events they had in my neighborhood. Dave Padilla was cool!
