I was born April 30th 1976 9.05am N.Z time, it was 3.05 Pm on April 29 in Minneapolis, it was partly cloudy and 58 degrees.
Prince said, Yo Andre man, you sing in the Champagne gig tonight, I am going to Moonsound, as Chris said to me
Angora Fur, The Aegean sea, the soft wet love that you have for me. I can see a song there. Andre said, man what about our band, you keep hanging with that kooky Englishman and his haunted studio playing that advertising jingle shit.
The School bel, rang, Prince went to Moonsound, buffed his Afro. Chris was already there with a joint and a brew and said, Hello, Prince said "Put that shit away, you don't need it"
A bit of fantasy
But actually Prince had taken Champagne to Moonsound (Morris Day was the drummer) and Chris Moon did a deal with him, they had made a demo. But Prince had 5 weeks to graduation and had to cram, so he didnt meet Owen until August. Champagne was breaking up. They played Ohio Players, Sly, Santana and grand funk, and also a Prince song called Machine which was very naughty. He still lived in the Basement at Bernadettes house. It was agreat time for Prince, he sopent wekends in the studio learning to work it and falling asleep waking up and seeing legs dangling over him. He was 17 years and 10 months old.
