purple, you raise some valid points...and you got me wondering...

did prince really create the mpls sound?

i'm quite sure he didn't...he's always been named as a major catalyst/figurehead for it, sure, but he's probably not THE guy who created it, lock stock & barrel.

dansa, you dont give any validity to the statement that 2funky is making? and remove the common knee-jerk answers of, "well, prince is gonna do what he damn wants", or "we dont have any say, so shut the fuck up" kinda statements.....

dont you think prince's music would benefit either from a new muse or new musical inspirations or styles?

i could give a shit less what he does, what muses he does/does not have or any musical inspirations he should or shouldn't listen to; i'm happy with what i've got, therefore i don't need to worry about it. the question that's begging to be asked here is why in the fuck are some fans so enamored in worrying about what prince should sound like or shouldn't sound like in the first gotdamned place? the only person who really should worry about all of that is prince himself. not you, not me, not the music critics, but he himself should be the only one who should have an ounce of worry in 'im. he's the one in the studio, not us.

"but i SHOULD be allowed to worry! i buy his stuff and i've been supportin his short ass for (insert number of days/months/years here)! if he doesn't shape up i won't buy anything else of his from here on out and i'll hate him forever [etc., etc., ad nauseam]" well, that's on you, not him. no matter how shitty you think a new project/album of his is, there's always gonna be a precious few who will still buy that shit. just because he puts something out don't mean that you immediately have to buy it, no matter how hardcore of a fan you are.

stop crying/worrying over something you can't help and pay attention to the rest of your music collection. sit it out for the long haul, if you gotta. rest your nerves.

because this is a discussion forum where people are free to pontificate on whatever they want...

and as a purchaser of prince's product i have the righ to herald it, praise it, bemoan it, bitch about it, scream in pleasure over it, and critique it....

and why do fans bitch and moan? because they are of free will...and can say and do what they want...and for them (and me), i will not settle for less...i know prince is capable of creating better works of art.

now let me ask you, why is it soo hard for some fans to accept that others might desire to up about prince negatively?

and if said product is not of your desired calibre, why continue to buy the shit? it's like shooting yourself in the foot.

and those who think so are also capable of not forever holding on to the premise that "i know he can do better".

ad nauseam, not acceptance. think about it.

how so? if i appreciate an artist i will support that artist...the purchasing of music is up to the invididuals own free will...you cant control who or what i decide to buy...just like you cant control my reaction to that work...or control what i have to say about it within this forum (be it a positive responce or a negative one).

and those who think so are also capable of not forever holding on to the premise that "i know he can do better".

once again, i have that right to think or desire this..you cant control what people think or how they feel.

anything and everything is acceptable when it comes to opinions...yours is no more right then mine..and vice versa.....

then if something that that artist puts out ain't up to your standard, why even bother wasting your money on it in the first place? it makes no sense.

anything and everything is acceptable when it comes to opinions...

not when it gets to the point where people still do not get it after tellin 'em to wake up and go to sleep for the nth time.

first off, who are you to tell anyone to "wake up"?

secondly....i dont pre-listen to music prior to purchasing it....if i follow an artist i follow an artist...through out all of their evolutions....even the crappy stuff..perfect example: Medulla (bjork)

and what might make no sense to you can make perfect sense to another...isnt it best to "listen" to what people have to say and agree to disagree?

if you think that i was referring directly to you or anyone else, you're mistaken. quit getting pissed over nothing.

there ya go--not all artists put out the exact same calibre of work. don't depend on them to do so--and you really don't have to listen to 'em beforehand. if an artist's work continuously goes downhill in a sequence of album releases it should tip something off in your head that maybe, just maybe, you should just leave well enough alone. being a completist is more or less a waste of time and money.
...isnt it best to "listen" to what people have to say and agree to disagree?

no.

maybe being a completist is a waste of time and money to you but you really need to stop applying your life principles towards everyone else.....

should i expect a simple "no" responce to that statement?

wink

seriously, i understand your arguement...i just dont agree with it....
