Top five underated Prince songs

Which five Prince songs are totally underappreciated to you and no one eles seems to like?

It's gonna be lonley-Not that people talk negative about this song it is just that I think it gets ignored alot. Put it on again it really is a WONDERFUL song.

It-Alot of people don't like this song but I don't see why-it is dark, eighties and sexy all at the same time. Totally mysterious, totally Prince.

Let's have a baby-I know alot of you might think this is sappy and corney but I really like the melody. And if only all men could respect and appreciate women for the godesses they are..men and women would be alot happier...it is a beautiful song.

My name is Prince-Hahh I know what you are all thinking eek . But yes this really is a fun, cool energetic song that is really quiet original. I haven't heard too many songs like this.

Dead on it-How come all all you Black Album lovers seem to leave this song out in your prasies???

WITH YOU - This is a freakin' beautiful ballad and I don't think it's ever gotten the attention it deserves. Prince's version and Jill Jones' version are both gorgeous. He needs to unpack this sucker and put it on stage.

PLAY IN THE SUNSHINE - A song that's all over the place, infectuous, rocking, funky, colorful and energetic for days, but another one that doesn't get a lot of play or praise. This is one of the highlights of the SOTT movie for me.

BATDANCE - That's right. Batdance. People who know me know that I'll defend this song and this album to my dying day. I think Prince's best guitar solo in a single release is in this song, and come on - even though the "Bat-Dancers" are way cheezy, you know you had fun watching the video. Prince in Joker make-up? Like you had a choice but to smile.

WILLING AND ABLE - I know lots of people like this song, but more people need to love it. The version on the 'Diamonds & Pearls' videocassette (which is also in the Cyberclips room at NPGMC) kicks my ass three times whenever I watch it.

COME - Whichever version you wanna think I mean. The clubbier version is nice, but the version on the album is like a trip you take to somewhere else - somewhere dark and sexy and jazzy and murky and warm. Nasty. I remember being shocked when I realized this song went on for ten minutes. I coulda sworn it was only like three or four minutes long, cuz I just don't pay attention to time when I'm listening to that song. More people need to just put on some headphones and listen to this, giving it their full attention. You should do that, baby.

Amen. I think Play in the Sunshine is one of the greatest moments of Prince's career. More than any other song he's ever recorded, this shows off his abilities as a one-man band, and it is absolutely bursting with musical ideas.

Desire/Data Bank/Open Book (these are the boots I listen to most often)

Beautiful Strange/When Will We B Paid (the dark, trippy sounds, the sadness...these are 2 late era songs that don't get much recognition)

It (Right there with you Krystal)

Feel U Up (as funky as Erotic City to me)

Chaos and Disorder/Rock n' Roll is Alive (yeah, they're kind of tacky, but in a great way, if you let your guard down)

"Silver Tongue" is my favourite Prince song. Period. "The United States Of Division" is great. I love "Push". Fuck all you Tony M. haters. "U're Gonna See Me" is beautiful. A whole bunch of "Musicology" tunes like "What Do You Want Me To Do?" and "If I Was The Man In Your Life".

The Greatest Romance is a superb song and is extremely under-rated because of the hatred many have for the album.

Also under-rated is Mad Sex. Love that one!

How are these under-rated? Doesn't everyone love these ones?

Ditto to the guy who said "If I Was The Man In U're Life" - that's always getting props on here.

some other songs that are underrated...

"U Got The Look"---a great late-80s pop song
"It"---should have been a single,imo
"I Wish U Heaven"
"Private Joy"---without question, this is the best song on 'Controversy'

Hmmm... My take on this:

SHO-BED-OOH. I've always loved this track, yet so many people seem to diss it (and the album in general). The lyrics are great and it has some very unique sounds.

STRANGE BUT TRUE. I know a lot of people like this one too, but I really think it's in his top 5 songs ever. It blew me away when I first heard it - probably one of the songs that made me a fan. It's so futuristic and "out there"

DAMN U. Easily one of his best ballads, but it often gets overlooked (due to tracks like Adore, Pink Cashmere etc, which is understandable!). His vocals on this one are just beautiful.

CRAZY YOU. A beautiful little acoustic number from 1978. Probably gets forgotten sometimes because it's so old.

AUTOMATIC. Not really underated I guess, but if often gets lumped in there with "all those other 8min tracks on 1999". I think it's the best on the album.

There are so many others, but these are the first ones that came to mind

The greatest romance that's ever been sold - Great lyrics, great song, but yet so underrated!

Ur'e gonna see me - such a beautiful song from a beautiful album

A million days - Why oh why didn't U release this prince?

Ripopgodazippa - best song of crystal ball? underrated? me thinks so!

Off the top of my head, these are ones I love that are dissed or overlooked:

Positivity (IMHO, this is truly an "epic" song - sorta like the opening of TRC)
Money don't matter (written during the 1st Gulf war, taking a stand on the blood for oil issue)
Style (Prince as Gil Scott-Heron?)
My name is Prince (if you doubt that this is a classic, sneak it onto a playlist for some teens who don't know P that well - they'll start dancing to it)
Avalanche (see photo on the left)

You are completely right - you should all go and play "Something In The Water....." RIGHT NOW. You know that you have forgotten how great it is.

GO on.....

His 5 most underrated?
- When you were mine (yes, this is one of his strongest songs ever and one of the best new wave-popsongs released in the eighties)
- I love you, but i dont trust you anymore (simple, deep and heartfelt)
- How come you can dont call me anymore? (the same)
- Glam Slam (one of his best pop-melodies ever written, majestic sounding psychedlic and baroque sounding powerpop with a slice of world music to pepper things up).
- Call My name (the best song Prince did release in this decenium, traditional sounding, but a classic soulballad, great basswork, great harmonies, and heartfelt singing.....what more do you want? wink )

Sexual Suicide--soo different, soo funky

I Like it There--one of the great endings to a classic little rocker

New Power Soul--like a mini symphony--freak on!

Silly Game--Maybe my favorite from the album. Like classic Marvin Gaye.

Do It All Night--I never hear this one talked about!
