1)"The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" -- Any reference to Joni is tight and when you can say "My pants were wet/They came off/But she didn't see the movie cuz she hadn't read the book first" is pretty damn awesome.
2)"If I Was Your Girlfriend" -- When a cat even conceive a title such as this, ya gotta love the gonads on this kid. 1. A Million Days (should of been released as a single) 2. The Love We Make (definately a classic) 3. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore (I can put that on repeat and listen to it over and over again) 4. Dolphin (Why didn't WB release this as a single, there was a video for it!?!) 5. Last December (Just a brilliant song that needs to be heard). | |

O.k., I'm not joking...
1) The Ladder - One of Prince's greatest attempts on gospel. Still overwhelming, even after the 200th spin in the CD player 2) The Arms of Orion - beautiful ballad! Yes, it is cheesy, but every non-sad ballad is cheesy, and this one has a great melody 3) Graffiti Bridge - Wonderful melody too, one of the songs that made me a Prince fan 4) Jughead - Come on, this is the pure funk! I always loved that one when listening to D&P and can't believe all the hate around here for it. And I really don't care for that whole Tony M. hate thing, rap is not such a pleasure for my ear that I feel a need to discuss the quality of several rappers (just my opinion) 5) Dolphin - This may simply be one of the best songs in pop/rock history. Everytime I listen to TGE in my car, the volume is turned up to max for that song. Btw, Eroticist, a dolphin is not a fish!!! Almost in the list: Gold - I just excluded it because it got some airplay back in the days, therefore not totally underrated (same for Peach)  | |

I love this topic!
Here are mine: "I Rock Therefore I Am" --- this song smokes from start to finish! It's got everything: funk, nasty guitar solos, a fun rap, Rosie Gains, and it's got that classic Prince pump-you-up boasting. His musical genius is all here. "New Power Generation" --- the moment I heard this song I loved it. It's funky, and a little weird sounding. When I first heard it, it sounded like Prince moving forward, advancing his sound. It still sounds fresh to me. "Dark" --This is one of his best slow jams--a great groove, great lyrics. "Alexa De Paris" -- I've always loved this beautiful B-side from the "Cherry Moon" movie. It's an instrumental but what a gorgeous soaring melody and some of Prince's guitar ever. One of my favorite Prince songs. "Still Would Stand All Time" --- When the opening line comes I get goosebumps. Love the Gospel choir-- it's one of his most ethereal and beautiful songs. I could go on! | |

I can't resist -- here are more:
"Until U're In My Arms Again" -- what a perfectly gorgeous song. Could have been a hit. "The Future" -- Prince at his most minimal, dark, funky and weird. "The Arms of Orion" -- why wasn't this released as a single? It's a beautiful song! Sometimes I used to get so mad at him when he wouldn't release his most accessible songs as singles. It was like he wanted to fail commercially. "Elephants & Flowers" -- what a fantastic tune that sweeps you away--full of energy and life. "Dinner With Delores" -- You heard me. The song sounds like it was dashed off but it's a little gem--whenever I hear it I enjoy it. "Dolphin" -- a great Prince song. "The Max" -- uh huh. That shit is FunKay and Bad Ass. "Joint 2 Joint" -- Prince flexing his genius muscles, and probably one of the funniest Prince songs. He's eating cereal for godsake. | |

Play In The Sunshine is grossly underrated, the bassline alone is arguably one of the best in Prince's career. And don't get me started on the live performance from the DVD. It blows me away everytime I see it. A few of my underrated favs. Do U Lie? I was discussing this track with another Prince appreciator and we were both dumbfounded about the lack of attention this song receives. The lush orchestral arrangements, Jonathan Melvoin's subdued/jazzy drumming, unbelievable background vocals and Prince's lead vocals combine to produce an awe-inspiring effect. Prince's vocal phrasing alone is too good to put into words. You can feel the passion in his voice and when he does the talk/sing portion during the bridge the song goes to another level. The talk/sing portion is so good because the background vocals are working perfectly with the strings, while Prince's lead vocals are so questioning against a perfectly strum rhythm guitar. Prince's voice goes from falsetto, to strained/pleading falsetto, to speaking and finally natural voice all in the space of 2mins and 47 seconds. When I hear tracks like Do U Lie? I'm floored by their creative brilliance and the balls it took to put out a track like this in the 1980's. How many musicians have the balls to juxtoapose an accordion driven track with the funky brilliance of Mountains and Kiss? Somehow it works. We Can Funk The last 2 or 3 mins of this track are ridiculously good. The passion in Prince's vocals and the subject matter work in perfect unison to build tension until his frustrated release at the end of the song. 1. Play in the Sunshine (what others have said, bristling with great musical ideas)
2. Cinnamon Girl (one of his best pop-rock songs- gets no love on here) 3. Tambourine (one of his best vocal works, very inventive arrangement) 4.
