To answer my own question, possibly 1999 or the Black Album. B-Sides gets honorable mention too!

Overall, I think Black Album is the funkiest, but whoever mentioned the B-sides was Dead On It, so to speak. Think about it, does Prince have a funkier track than Irresistable Bitch? And what about the bass in 17 Days?

mmmmm...too sexy.

Exactly! The "1999" album and The Time albums.....you can't get much funkier than that.

One of the initial attractions of Prince's music for me was that it was hard to define. He wasn't just a funker, he incorporated and fused so many different elements together effortlessly. Only later did Prince seem to feel the need to turn all his past work into funk jams when performing them live. On record, I don't think i could identify and single out one particular 80's album as being his 'Funkiest'.

Each Prince album between 1979-1988 had its own character and revealed growth of an exceptionaly gifted and original artist. Considering this, Is 1999 as funky as Parade? as an admirer of both these works, i just can't compare the two. The cold, monotone, electronic sound of tracks, such as, 'something in the water' are a million miles away from the intricate, warmer and sophistcated funk displayed in tracks such as 'I wonder U'. Yet the are both incredibly funky for completely different reasons.

One could argue that the sheer rawness and 'F*ck You' attidue of the Dirty Mind album alone eclipses the rest of his other albums in the funk stakes. Its all personal opinion, i guess. I just think, ney, i feel that funk is and encompasses something more than mere sound.

Prince gave so much in his first decade, perhaps more than any other artist of his generation. To disect, sperate and caterogrise Prince's music by picking away at its elements, in inessence, goes against all what his work initially stood for.

Now put that last paragraph on the quotations board! lol

All albums have some funky tunes, but The Black Album and New Power Soul are almost ONLY funky music, though maybe not PrinceĀ“s finest.

Rainbow Chilrdren and Parade funky? eek well, for some parts maybe.

But when it comes to real funky music you cant go wrong with:
- 1999
- Camille (all camille tracks put on one cd, this cd NEEDS to be released)
- The Black Album
- Batman
