of course, what we don't consider is that in reality, if The Kid tried to raise his lace-gloved hand to just about any woman in the world, she'd probably be able to stuff his pert little ass into a microwave and enjoy him as a light afternoon snack. lol

Yes, indeed

I thought he eased up a bit in the 90s...which song and album has the line about...if you keep calling her a b#5tch she'll leave your drunk ass in a ditch...or something... and then there was TMBGITW - fab video - very pro-women.

Using her weakness as a way of excusing mysoginistic behaviour is still mysoginistic, possibly even more so than it would be normally.

If people would learn to spell the word..

I wasn't sayning it is an EXCUSE for that male behaviour ...just that it may LOOK like that by the way the woman resonds/ reacts/ presents herself.

rolleyes Forgive me, oh great one, for misspelling a word. I noticed you misspelled "responds", so I guess we're even.

And no, it wouldn't just look that way, it would be that way. In a relationship, if one partner has some sort of weaknesses, (In this case the woman behaving as if she wanted to be treated like shit. There's a multitude of reasons a person would behave like this, btw. Prior abuse being the most likely.) it's the other person's job to help them overcome their problems -not use them as an excuse for being a pig.

To be honest, some songs did bother me and I did used to cringe at the "Gett Off" video, treating women as objects. However, someone once explained something to me that I thought sums it up quite well: Prince demeans and liberates women at the same time. Seems to be quite frustrated that women aren't allowed to express their sexuality in the same way as men and wishes that they would.

Keep in mind, the whole "Caligula"-esque feel of the "Gett Off" vid is one big fantasy, where everyone is fulfilling their sexual fantasies. Yes, all the men have women all over them, but notice that Rosie has a whole bunch of scantily clad beefcakes at her back and call. Ultimately, Prince is exploitive of both sexes, to the end that he was calling for a more free sexual society. I'm not saying that their weren't blunders along the way, but I don't think he meant it as chauvenism. I think he naivelly thought he was setting people free of taboo (and to some extent he did). Did some of it come across as misogynistic? Of course, but I don't think it was intended that way.

VANITY who was INTO DRUGS and STUFF DISSEd PRINCE. She felt HOLLYWOOD Or PRINCE DID her In. It was HER DRUG USE. I think she STILL COULD Have STAYED MAKING GOSPEL MUSIC or WHAT Have you. RELIGIOUS or WOMEN'S LIBBERS say all this bout the CLOTHING and TALKING/ACTING Towards WOMEN it's ALL SHOWBUSINESS. Plus, if you are working with PRINCE in a FILM it's HIM FIRST! Remember, though Many People became STARS from That FILM. However, some Say that Prince all said without me you are NOTHING? What we READ , well it's COOL to SEE just who has MADE it. He Doesn't Want to LOSE his CAMP,but Pushes ya Out when ya Have to Go-ON. Or maybe he sees it that you Don't Fit Him or Make him Happy No More. Gemin's ARE CAPABLE of LONg TERM COMMITMENT and People saying No are SERIOUSLY BOTHERED. Peace-OUT! biggrin

Unfortunately, I think stardom would do nothing but reinforce those beliefs. He knows on some level most-- if not all of the women he's been with or that scream for him-- wouldn't give him the time of day if he weren't "Prince". I'm sure part of what drove him was to be in that position where he could make them feel like he felt. Once he got what he wanted that is.

I was already aware of Prince's mysoginy when I saw PR, and that movie sort of let fans hope he was becoming less of a male chauvinist pig, though by no means completely reformed. I think his attitude is only relatively better now. He used the view women as defined by Penthouse, and now it's as defined by his interpretation of the bible.

Does he? In all honesty I think he has changed the way he treats women. But I don't know if I would think he is any less sexist now. In fact I think he is just as chavanistic but in a diffrent way. Listen to the way he talks about women in his interviews. Like on the view when he was discribing how he didn't like people touching Mayte. On TRL how if we stop the battle of the sexes men and women will fall into their proper roles. Whatever that means! And remember when Kevin Smith was discribing how Prince was preaching the bible as order Man, then woman and all the women were not having that! Just seems like he is using the bible to excuse his sexist additude.

To be fair I would say P. Control is a very inspiring and feminist song but I can also see how alot of women might even be offended by that because basicaly saying a woman's power is through her pussy, which it very well may be but alot of women might see that as a chavanistic way of looking at femminisim.

I think Prince still may have a negative view of women.

it's really not saying that. if you don't believe me, change the word Pussy to a common name for a woman, like lauren or Gina. It's about a woman in control of her life. her name just happens to be pussy.

I'ms so fucking sick of that rhetoric, spin bullshit being spit out every time someone wants to rationalize treating women as buyable and sellable objects. liberating a woman sexually does not have to mean barely covering her ass and spraying her w/gold body paint. she's still treated like an object for men to ogle and dehumanize. every one acts like walking around w/no clothes on or very minimal clothes on is so liberating and it makes me sick. it's bad enough when a woman does it to herself but when a man does it? mad men don't have to fucking get naked to express themselves sexually. men aren't placed in submissive positions for photo shoots so they look easily dominated or "less scary" to the men running the magazines and running the world.

Okay, now we have to throw insults? I'm not saying that Prince got this idea across well, or even that he was justified. This is just my observation. To say that Prince's behaviour is indictative of all men is just foolish. Sure, plenty of men are "hypocritical pigs", but not all of them. Generalization is a dangerous thing.

Well, you know it's a movie. Movie's aren't exactly real life, you know. They're scripted. Of course it's an entirely different deal how much of Purple Rain was scripted. And how much of it was indeed well-scripted, but having said that I still think Apollonia had decent tits.
