Ani!

As a super huge Ani Difranco fan, that would be so v.v.v. cool if she and P. were pals.

Also the jam session musta been outta this world!

As I recall, Prince respected Ani for her ability to release her music independently of major record companies. I'm also thinking that they may have tried recording together but that it didn't come to fruition.

Ani played on Prince's "eye Love U, But eye Don't Trust U Anymore" off the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic album (one of the few truly excellent tracks on that album).

Prince contributed vocals (and possibly more) to Ani's song "Providence" (which, I believe, is on her album To The Teeth. Some Ani fan can help me with that one).

that is alot of cd's to sell to non-fans isn't it?

- Well...going to a concert doesn´t mean you are a fan, specially because Prince said he was retiring the hits.
I have at least 8 friends that went to Living Colour concerts with me that aren´t LC fans and didn´t buy their latest album.
If Prince sold only to fans, The Rainbow Children would be platinum too

actually, the "loyal fans" aren't responsible for either of those. if multi-platinum success came down to Prince's loyal fans, The Rainbow Children would be a 3 million seller.

and the fanbase and audience don't vote for the Grammys either.

so,who in the hell bought 2 million copies of "musicology" then?
that is alot of cd's to sell to non-fans isn't it?
the cd's that were given away at the concerts were counted too,i am sure that those concerts contained many, many "loyal fans".

many loyal fans that bought it once, and had it given to them again and again and again.

loyal fans also brought non-fans to the concerts with them,i understand that, but, the majority of the people who went to a store and bought "musicology" were loyal fans.

true. but i think you'll find that the number of albums sold in actual stores was probably quite a low porportion to the total sales. look at the chart placing of the album during off-weeks when he wasn't performing, or after the tour ended. it sank like a stone each time.

and believe it or not,the grammy board monitors what albums people are buying and what concerts they are attending,so,that being a fact,it would lead me to believe that the fans are responsible for the grammy nominations.
fancy chocolate anyone? razz

oh sure, but if that were as heavy an indicator as you suggest, Usher would have beaten him in a heartbeat.

Musicology is double platinum and over half of those were store-bought.

cool Despite what some of you think about Prince not attending the Grammy's, What's tha big deal? SO WHAT! He did not go to the show. Are some of you really losing sleep over this matter? Prince once again proves that he can still get plublicity without even being at one of he biggest events in music. I guess he felt like entertaining instead of sitting most of the night to watch a show he had no interest in being at.

i seriously doubt that Prince's idea of "relaxation" or "fun" is hanging out with
jessica simpson,paris hilton etc...
his motives for not attending the grammies were a little more political than that...who ultimately suffers that decision in the end?us-the loyal fans who do not get invited to fancy chocolate parties at his home.
let's see...the loyal fans make "musicology" double platinum,we award his accomplishment with 2 grammy awards, what does he do?instead of showing up and showing respect for the people who line his pockets and heap mounds of worship and praise upon him,he throws a big fancy chocolate party(insert sarcasm here)
for the likes of jessica simpson, paris hilton etc...
In all seriousness, if you were Prince, would you want just regular people to hear your music who might be more honest than fams who would buy anything you put out?

I don't get why fams/fans are going on about why we didn't get invited or whatever but damn, for real. We were front and center for a tour where most of the celebrities were sitting in the back. Shit, if you were him would you invite us to your house? If I were him, the answer would a resounding 'hell no'. Some fans may think we made him, but it ain't like we gotten nothing in return. My two cents anyway.

I don't think that's Y others were'nt invited.Trust me, Prince's sercurity can handle some1 pickin up something that dont belong2 them, anytime, anywhere in his mist. In my opinion, It's a time and a place 4 everything and everybody. This isn't tht the first nor the last.Wait ur turn.

That's the thing: I'm not the typical Prince fan. I'm not clamoring for new music or anything else. I have zero expectations when it comes to the man, which makes anything that happens that much sweeter.

If I remember correctly, on one of her many unauthorized video tapes (at least she wasn't nympho in this one), while in London I believe she was approached by a couple of Black fashion-type guys who asked were kissing up to her and asked her if she would model some of their clothes, or something along that line of convo...she pretended to polite to them while talking to them, but when the convo was over, she called them dirty n*****s, caught on tape. And yet, Nicole Ritchie, who isn't White and has been raised by a Black family, continues to associate herself with this trash. Go figure. mad

The word "Nigger" in history and apparently in 2005 is a word white people used to insult, demean, and oppress blacks all over this wonderful country. Black people use "nigga" unfortunately as a term of brotherhood or endearment for lack of a better word. I wish the word was demolished all to together so that un-informed people wouldn't think it's no big deal to use it.

Okay, I totally understand why we can't use the N word. I'm Mexican I don't even think of saying it(and don't want to) around my Black brothers and sisters. I think anybody who is a minority and has to deal with racial epithets has to take back the word and make it their own. That's why I use queer and faggot. Mostly on myself and friends, in a joking manner. I even know some white people that are starting to take back the word trailer trash. That's just as racist.

Item World: Prince parties up on Grammy night
February 18, 2005 ITEM0218

Why didn't Prince attend Sunday's Grammy Awards to pick up the fifth and sixth trophies of his career? He was too busy hosting parties at his Bel Air mansion, according to his publicist. Guests at a late, late Saturday-night soiree included John Mayer, Jay Leno, Jessica Simpson, Babyface, Ani DiFranco, the Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray and, of course, Paris Hilton. And a post-Grammys bash featured Stevie Wonder as guest of honor, along with Alicia Keys, Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek and Elijah Wood. I.W. wasn't invited, but we hear that Wonder was at the keyboards in Prince's living room at 5:30 a.m., jamming with the host (on guitar) and the Maceo Parker band with Matthew McConaughey on congas -- fully clothed, we trust. (J.B.)

He better be lucky I'm not Mani, cause we would be arguing about him inviting fake, airheaded movie stars and marginally talented people like Black Eyed Peas all up in our house. rolleyes

I totally agree that this is why the N word is used so commonly among young blacks as a way of diffusing or taking that power away from the word and the person who uses the word in a racist manner. It becomes confusing when non blacks (or in your case heterosexuals) use the word because they believe that the word is not off limits anymore. Then, you have to wonder, is this person trying to use the word to hurt me, or to fit in? I think it is better to just strike the word out. Therefore no misunderstandings.
