Prince hosting a Christmas special lol

I think it's funny when they make references to people like Susannah being as 99 percent of the people have no idea who he is talking about.

The skit was funny but i don't know if that's the same actor who originally did P earlier in the year after the Grammy's. This guy does ok, but doesn't seem as good as the original actor, and he can't even compare to Dave Chappelle who still has my vote for best Prince impersonation!!
Every time I watch the other people news, I see a false picture of myself, another one of u. They try 2 tell us what we want, what 2 believe. Didn't that happen in the Garden, when somebody spoke 2 Eve? But I'm willin'....

It was Fred Armisen as Prince tonight, just like always. 'The Prince Show' sketch is his creation.

for those in the western time zones, the Prince Show Christmas Special is in the first half of the hour. It's the third skit and it falls after the first major commercial break.

Fred Armisten, NPGMC member, is in an all white suit that goes down to his knees and has a purple shirt and tie.

He opens the show playing piano.

Weird since Destiny's Child is the musical guest and the real Beyonce' is not in the skit.

Robert DeNiro plays himself and gets to sit on a purple snowmobile and make "vroom vroom" noises.

Prince is shown hanging up a symbol tree ornament. Oh, and the lyrics are changed for the theme since it's a "Christmas Special."

Exactly. The nuances get lost somewhere. It could've been funnier. Prince puts on a "wonder mask" and references Susannah, and others. The part when "Beyonce" has to announce that Prince is putting an ornament on the tree (cut to Prince putting his symbol on the tree)seemed a little corny, too forced.

Maybe the skit would be funnier on Mad TV. neutral

I think Jamie Foxx was the best Prince on "In Living Colour". This SNL thing is very lame, although the costumes are ok. Mya is hot as Beyonce.

I take it you've never seen Jamie Foxx when he did Prince around '91-'92 on In Living Color ("Butt Out Jeans"). That man had Prince hands down!!! worship

i saw it and i thought it was pretty dumb. they need to just put the "prince show" skit to rest now, it's gotten pretty blah since they've done it long enough. it was cute when it first popped up, but now...bored

and the best prince impersonation on teevee? phil lamarr on mad tv--jamie foxx's prince was okay but i loved phil's. he not only had the mannerisms down, but he had his voice downpat as well.

Actually, i think Eddie Griffith did the best Prince impersonation. Remember that show "Malcolm and Eddie"? There was an episode where P was supposed to show up and perform but he had a problem with his plane so Eddie dressed up like him and fooled the crowd. It was the funniest P impersonation i ever saw

I missed the first few seconds cuz we had the TV on mute while my bf was playing me this song "You're a Ho' But You Don't Know" by Betty Wright. and then I saw the silouette of Fred A at the piano and I was like that looks like Prince (the lighting was very Purple Rain).

So what happened in the very beginning at the piano?

Overall, I give Fred A props for the effort, although I don't think the skit is living up to its potential. The first one was probably the best, but he needs to make it a little more interesting.

For example, he should've had the real Beyonce come out and get into a catfight or do something funny with the fact that there are 2 Beoynce's. Like Beyonce could've ocme out as "Mayte" or "Apollonia" Or some other P ex that people would know and have her get all up in Mya-Beyonce's face. Destiny's Child poked fun at themselves before on SNL on one of the "Gemini Twin" skits.

I didnt' get the Mirror reference, although I like how Fred throws in the obscure names for those of us who DO get it smile.

that's what i was thinkin! why couldnt've beyonce came out and at least did a cameo appearance? woulda made more sense then...

that's about the only redeeming bit of the skit, the whole wondermask-thing, cuz he name-drops folks that only knowledgeable fans would know about...he mentioned rhonda this time around, forgot what he said she was doin tho'.

Somebody on another message board who works on SNL said that Beyonce was originally written into the Prince Show sketch but she was sick all week and didn't show up for rehearsals so they had to cut her out.

I think he just said each person was getting as a gift or something, I dont' think they were doing anything in particular. The 3 names were IIRC Lisa, Rhonda, and Susannah.

So what did he say at the very beginning?

SNL is in a down period right now for sure but MAD TV has been in a down period since it first aired. That show has always been uneven as fuck. One good skit per show (if you're lucky) SNL struggles every few years due to losing cast members to the big screen. How many MAD TV cast members have gone on to movies?

Oh my god, that skit was freaking hilarious! I think it came out like a few days after Prince's MTV VMA performance. Jaime Foxx did this mock Prince song, singing somethin like "bet your bottom dollar..." and was doing all these funky hand gestures while they played mystical sound effects.

No question. Phil was dead on. He had that deep/flat Prince speaking voice perfect, and was fucking hysterical.
