Okay, I have another question regarding yet another unanswered mystery. How did Morris have special powers to put a spell on Aura while she was passed out? I believe the spell was to make Aura fall in love with the first person she sees after she awakens. Did someone give Morris a magic wand? Where were his magic powers in Purple Rain?

My first experience of Graffiti Bridge was at the age of 17 when bought it on video. knew nothing of the absolute distaste of Prince fams 2 this film so watched it with a completely open and untainted mind, and 2 me it appeared 2 be a sweet, and kinda silly fairytale. The creaky sets 2 me merely reinforced the idea that this was a fairytale land, or fantasy world if u will. got many positive messages from this film, and believe if u watch it with an open and positive mind, forgetting all the cynicism surrounding this film then u too will experience enjoyment and fun of a positive nature from this film. We all need 2 embrace the idea of play more, Prince is like a child in creating this film: having fun. Kick-ass post Nouveau!
I saw the movie on vid over 10 years ago, cringed the whole time, and wiped it mostly from my memory. It was a bit of a shocker, coz until then I had genuinely felt that P could not really go wrong - a mild misstep here and there, but nothing BAD. I mean I generally liked to some degree every song on every album, every vid, and every movie (UTCM was cute, not amazing...). I had even loved GB the album. Suddenly, I was watching one of the worst movies ever made - and it was entirely created by P. Had I been wrong about him all along? It was certainly the first time I went off him for a bit. Couldn't really enjoy the album as much any more. Then came D&P. Well, actually, first came Gett Off, which totally restored my faith. But THEN came D&P. I mean, it still excited me at first, and I listened to it heaps - but the faith was gone. I don't mean religious-style faith, I mean belief in the near infallibility of his talent. I think that's what the next ten years were about for most of us - getting used to seeing Prince fall off, or short of, the mark over and over, particularly when it seemed that he had never missed before. I mean, take Lovesexy. When most people didn't get it (and those WERE some weird and ugly duds he was wearing), I could be confident that they had the problem. After GB, it was hard to ever be REALLY sure again... "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

I was the same as everyone else and sure I cringe at the acting but after having the message and feel of the film explained from a different point I can see what the idea should have been. I still cringe at the time piece when Morris is trying to climb that damn bridge! http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

That was something I picked up on when I was doing the screen grabs, I really had to turn the brightness/contrast up A LOT on most of the images.

I don't think Prince learned how to measure light properly, or since this was right after Batman I thought maybe he was going for a Dark Gotham City kind of vibe?

Whilst it does give it an interesting dream-like quality in the clubs scenes, the so-called exterior scenes (7 Corners and the Bridge) are shocking detrimental to the audiences concentration on the characters and the 'melodrama' unfolding. Psychedelic and claustrophobic, these two sets are, combined; one of the most off-putting things about Graffiti Bridge, the Bridge itself especially is laughable. Where exactly is it meant to be? - Where is this place where the horizon meets the sky less than a few meters from where you stand, and a Bridge is constructed to cross a mere trickle of water along the ground, hardly enough to drown a hamster? let us not forget the part where Morris is trying to walk up the bridge, but it becomes impossible...? i almost peed my pants Sex Kitten

But do you need to walk over it at all? Doesn't the Kid ride his motorcycle around the bridge, effectively riding on the "river?" Check this song out at:

..and hey, I like the "face paint" and the "Tick Tick Bang" performances! Prince is the man no question, but when I was in the 8th grade I made 6 of my friends go see this movie on opening night, 14 years later they are still pissed at me. Purple rain was respectable because no one in the movie for the most part had ever acted before. Under the cherry moon was hilarious, and Prince was an absoulute pimp in the movie, but Graffti Bridge, as much as I have tried to stick up for it over the years was terrible. Morris Day was the only good part of the movie. YESSSSS.
