Well, did you hear that where Blues Alley used to be (right across the street from First Ave. and Target Center, they are opening a topless strip club very soon. A "classy" one. nod lol Like we need more of those downtown. rolleyes Damn, all the cool old bars and clubs are disappearing.

Gotta bring in more suburbanites you know! thumbs up!

mad rant over

exactly. without first ave., downtown will be nothing more than Big Edina now. the apartment building i live in has gotta be like the last thing in the downtown area that ain't been invaded by suburbanites and/or suburban-type living crap.

Prince should buy this club!! What else is in MN?? This is sorta part of a Elvis type Graceland.

in princely terms, no it isn't. honestly. there's so so so much else besides the whole pr thing that made first ave. what it is.

Prince should buy it, play there, make it a club with his music & the other time have new acts & local bands.

for the zillionth time, no he shouldn't.

CarrieMpls and Violett know the place, WE OWNED THAT SPEAKER.

I think we should get to bring that speaker home. Dammit, it's OURS!

And if they bulldoze the place, we can erect a monument in that exact place. I cannot possibly calculate the # of hours I spent dancing, drinking, watching, listening and being overcome with a feeling of all out bliss (in the case of many shows, but specfically Basement Jaxx!) in that exact spot.

they should bronze that speaker. horns

Hmmm and on the 20 year anniversary of PR. You would think that latest Prince press would stir up some curiosity.

Just like to add that this is sad news and that I never got to go etc etc.

Some people are talking about what might happen to this place now. Where I live in Manchester, England there was a really famous club called the Hacienda. This club was part of Factory Records and was part owned by New Order (i think).
This club was possibly Manchester's club heartland and possibly Manchester's biggest cultural symbol. It in many ways was the same to Manchester as 1st Ave is to Mpls. So where am I going with this? Well the Hacienda went through a few ownership battles. In the end it was Knocked down and had a shit load of very expensive appartments bult on it. It just sounds like a familiar tale what's happening to to 1st Ave...

sigh

I hope not.

I would've LOVED to make it to the Hacienda, ps. I can't believe the lack of respect for cultural landmarks that led to it being knocked down. disbelief

Yeah... The last straw really is that they've named the Appartments 'The Hacienda' ...They've knocked a few places like that down in Manchester, namely two gig venus named the Internation 1 and 2. 1's a food store now and can you guess what they've done on the site of 2? ... Yep... More appartments!!
