Glass Cutter Origins

What a great song BUT, 2004? This song sounds like is directly from the Slaughterhouse / Chocolate Invasion stuff. Am I the only one that hears this?

Once again, great song! I just wish it was in better quality.

Peace all

i just questioned this on the featured thread. i haven't heard it, but from the reactions i've read over some of the lyrical content included in the song that rang up a red light for me.

Especially if you listen to the actual song "slaughterhouse" and "sex me, baby"
The vocals, drums, etc, all sound like they came from exactly the same session. Even the way the vocals are sung, not talking sound wise, but form wise, are VERY similiar. At any rate, this is why i think the 2004 mught be a typo, that, thrown in with P'man talkin bout hard nipples in this song....it just seems so 1999 or year 2000 ish, maybe even somethin off the high project.

Shrug...who knows, just an observation....Im still diggin the tune regardless of then it was released.

Its in your internet temp folder

at 80kbps

file name is a number.

Great song, reminds a little of daisy chain. I thought the same thing about slaughterhouse. But I still think its a new song. There was a post by a mod about how these are unfinished songs. Which suggests maybe they wanna gauged a reaction to them. Which I think has been positive on the whole.

for me its a good song. reminds me of Me'shel N'dgecello (I don't know if thats how you spell and I'm too fat and lazy to get off my arse and check) in the vocal style especially

OR maybe its just an unfinihsed demo of a song from the Slaughterhouse / High era. I hear nothing in this music that places it anywhere else besides that time period. I could be wrong, but I would be VERY surprised if this were indeed something new.

it sounds newer than the slaughterhouse/chocolateinvasion/peace/high stuff. drumming sounds too organic, and there's too much going on with the guitar for it to be from then

I agree that Glass Cutter sounds like a Slaughterhouse song. That's what I thought immediately upon hearing it.

But on the other thread (in the NPGMC forum) about the new tunes up right now in the Glam Slam room, Katt said that in the NPGMC chatroom a PP mod said it's a recent recording.

eye wonder if this is a new direction for Prince. He has been working with a band for much of this year; maybe now he is back to a one man band. All instruments & vocals by Prince.

U can get it from your temp. internet files once the whole song has played.

In IE that's Tools > Internet Options:

Middle Panel (Temporary Internet Files) > Settings:

View Files

Then sort by size will usually place them right at the top of the window, just copy them and paste them to whereever you wanna put them.

Recent in geological terms???? In that case I would agree with what Katt said the PP mod said also, 5 years is pretty recent lol

If it's a "demo" one would presume it's more recent that the TCI / Slaughterhouse stuff, so I'm guessing it's a 2004 recording.

I'm sure he must have a lot of unreleased songs sitting around that span 20+ years that he still considers demos. In my opinion, the word demo doesn't make it recent, it just signifies it is incomplete in his eyes, which I am sure he has a TON of that fit into this cateogry.

Just heard this song the other day, along with San Jose jam and I could'nt be more impressed. Their way too funkay. Since Glass Cutter is credited as being done in 2004, I would believe it is something new. But having listened to some of Chocolate Invasion but none of Slaughterhouse, I can see where there are some similarites in Glass's content and the overall vibe of TCI/Slaughter. The song is still tight regardless, just wish he'd put it on a real CD.

Don't worry, I found it. System Folder>Preferences>Explorer>Temporary Files look for mp3 files after song has finished playing. Woo-hoo!

My reasoning for presuming it's recent is that it's always been the way that Prince doesn't do demo's as a rule, he makes complete songs - I can think of one or two exceptions.

The NPGMC has far and wide been an outlet for recently recorded music, at the time of it's release through the club - NPGMC Year one downloads (later TCI and Slaughterhouse), The Rainbow Children, Xpectation, C-Note, ONA and the individual tracks like Silver Tongue and United States of Division.

All were released within a relatively short amount of time from their recording.

So that's why I think it's recent, and not from say, 1992. smile

I think the song feels a lot like the Batman period. Stripped down funk, somehow with a cold "techno" feel.
