Someone please provide an analysis of the cinnammon girl video. I don't quite understand the part when she is video taping herself and the end of the video. Also. what does that sign mean on his forehead. I assume it is a biblical scripture.

I think the scrible on his face says "slave" ... oh no wait, that was a couple of years ago! Seriously it says 5:5. I guess it's a reference to Mathew 5:5 which says that "the meek (the humble) shall inherit the earth". He quotes this line in Dear Mr. Man as well.

As for the girl filming herself in the video, I think it's her making a suicide tape ("these are the reasons I'm doing this etc...") before going to blow up the airport, which luckily she chooses not to!

i kind of think the video contradicts what i percieved the song to be about.

does anyone else think that the video is going to be considered kinda controversial.

The video might just cost him the Grammy for Musicology...

When I first heard it I thought, this would be really a bit controversial in European cities where the bible isn't such a thing to be placed at the center of attention. Luckily as with most songs in english most people don't really listen to the words when it plays here. But hell... this is Prince we're talking about! The world EXPECTS controversy from him! I wouldn't be nearly as appreciative of him if he actually cared about what others thought about him.

yeah the ending kinda tripped me out too... i know Arab kids (friends actually) in school who didn't endure any ridicule because of 9-11 -- i'm sure it's happened to some, but all the press about tolerance and diversity because of 9-11 is way out of proportion to me -- anyway, what's she doing with a bomb? -- kinda screws up the whole message about a supposedly innocent Arab girl having to endure ridicule -- the bomb makes her look crazy and certainly isn't justified -- but... perhaps the message is in the fact that she doesn't actually choose to fight fire with fire -- "the meek shall inherit the earth" -- which is apparently what happens at the very end

p.s. babylon ain't iraq no mo' -- it's a lot closer to home (cf. rev 18)

yeah that controversial ending to kanye west's video "jesus walks" where the klansman is bearing the cross in Christ-like manner really killed his sales...NOT. if anything, MTV might air it just because of the ending.
