In 20 or 30 yrs from now what will this package be worth? I spend 100.00 + a trip to hawaii, I leave this to my child and he will accept this as he see fit for all I know he can toss that in the dump along with all the prince songs I own.

This item will be worth a lot in the future. Just because of the CDsingle !! It doesn't matter if it was available as a download, this is a pressed cdsingle, most likely not more than 1000. Real collectors will buy this one !!

And then kick themselves when the CD single becomes available on its own in the near future.

If you see somebody stealing merchandise or money in a shop (for example), it is your choice to alert the police or anybody around you.

If Prince is charging outrageous money for this box, people should speak out if they think it is a rip-off. Like for the equally outrageous 7.77 $ charged for the question of u video...

Get the point?

why ??
The book costs $50 when ordered at Hawai Bookstore
Tourbook $ 20
T-shirt $20

So, $100 seems fair to me.

Stop bitching about this topic. The NPGMC doesn't make you order it, it's your choice to do so

Stop bitching? I made one comment, which based on Prince's previous track record, isn't unfair and you wanna jump down my throat for questioning it? The org is about debate, not worship.

Get a life. You wanna pay $100 for some way over inflated cheap box, then knock yourself out.

Maybe you can listen to the CD single over and over, while you dance around the stereo in the Pussy Control Thong you were so keen to buy.

shocked Prince selling posters of children?? Am I the only one who thinks that's questionable?? The parents of the child might like such a poster, but come on people...it's not an MJ club right?? I could see him pulling out baby pictures out of his surprise hat...

so, you did already order it ???

Nope...didn't order it and probably won't order it either

I find this hard to take seriously. Considering how media savvy and commercially astute Prince APPEARS to be at present, something is dreadfully missing if he thinks that this is the kind of pap his fanbase wants to spend 100 bucks on!

Surely, he must b aware that his loyal fans want nothing more than the music. A book is always nice as an addition, a T shirt mayb, but a poster of a so called NPG child???

And to flog these odds and ends for such a LARGE PRICE?! I personally find this quite insulting.

Needless to say, i will not b buying. Not even if the price was a less large 50 dollars.

Prince continues to merchandise like this due to the large group of people who measure fandom by the amount of Prince memorablia you own,the number of rare CD's you have and the amount of obscure purple factoids that they know, rather than sheer enjoyment of the music. He knows this slavering mass of completetist fams will snap this up even with the $100 price tag and even more outrageous $43 shipping. The same people admonishing us for not buying this set on this thread, will be the same people who are desperately rationalizing for Prince's business decisions when the set (or its individual components) are available much cheaper six months from now.....Gotta give it to the little man however....Total cost of $143 for a bunch of remainder crap that probably cost him $6 and some shoestring to produce...Even if only a hundred people bought it, P.'s still probably laughing all the way to the bank.

Okay - I've been reading this thread and, for what it's worth, I'd like to add my two cents.

I totally agree that no-one's forcing anyone to buy this product. If you want it (or can afford to buy it without forever questioning its' value) - fine, go ahead. Most of us who are 'into' Prince are collectors of some sort, anyway - whether it be the music (and that alone), magazine articles, tour paraphernalia, whatever. There's always something the die-hards are going to snatch up, simply because of its' Prince connection. (How many of us have bought albums by Prince's proteges or even a whole cd by a totally different artist, just to get our hands on ONE track that P 'features' on? And how many of these albums, magazines, etc, do we read/listen to on a 24/7 basis?? Yeah, it might be great knowing you've got the Carmen Electra album but does ANYONE actually listen to it non-stop???! And - yummy - that Get Wild perfume still smells fantastic).

So, in other words, what is tat to one person might be someone else's treasure.

I also think it's great that Prince is at least giving us something. It wasn't too long ago that people were complaining the site was a bit of a white elephant. Their main argument was that - apart from the message boards - there wasn't that much to buy or do. (Especially since it's called the 'NPG Music Club'). That said, it may not be to everyone's taste but, I guarantee, there'll be fans lapping up this Gift Box in their droves, for exactly the same reasons I just outlined above. They may not even WANT it - but it'll fit quite nicely with the rest of their Prince collection. Just as nicely as the Ltd. Edition gold 'Symbol' album or the 'Purple Rain' purple vinyl or the 'Days Of Wild' single, etc... So, if only for that reason alone, I think it's good Prince has made this available. At least he's trying.

Ultimately, however, I won't be buying this set. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE a copy (and I bet most fans would too, if they didn't have to cough up $100). Part of the fun of being 'into' an artist is actually having rare or collectable material. But I do question this box-set's merits - do I really want to put a poster of some kid on my bedroom wall? (How dodgy will THAT look??). And do I really need a purple hat box? (Unless I become a drag queen in the near future, that is). I just don't think it's worth that sort of money. And it's as simple as that. If people want to buy it - great. But on this one occassion, sadly I'll have to say 'No'.

I ain't gettin' pimped!

People bitched that the NPGMC wasn't selling that hawaii book, NPGMC said that Hawaii had rights to selling it first and that it would be sold at the NPGMC at some point. Looks to me like they put together a nice little package for people to have a collectors item....BIG DEAL! This particular item is about the book...not music...so what.

Some one said the book price was 50 bucks in the stores! so you get a t-shirt, a tour book, incense, a poster (all be it a strange poster), and a CD single for another 50....ehh..it ain't THAT bad folx. Plus you get the box...which I think is kinda cool. I don't have all that much prince stuff so I'd use that box to put all my stuff in. smile I think I might ask for it for Christmas...or wait for it to go on sale....or just buy it! LOL
relax folx...it's not life or death.
lol

All of this is shipped in a gorgeous custom-made royal purple "hat" box

Why does the NPG Child poster model have to be WHITE, and why would I want to buy this?!

LMAO.

Yeah why would we buy this??? how about some MUSIC????? Photos are cool but I don't know if I want to spend $100 on that when I can buy some more of his music. Yeah why does the child have to be white?

The fact that I have no desire to own this has very little to do with the fact that it's insanely overpriced. There's simply nothing that I would get any kind of enjoyment out of. I've seen most of the pictures from the book online - some are nice, most are ultra-cheesy, whatever. Considering 10 years later I still haven't bought the Sacrifice of Victor book, which features my all-time favorite Prince "look," I think it's fair to say that a Prince picture book has never really floated my boat.

And then you throw in the rest of that crap. What in the world would I want with a Prince: Hawaii t-shirt? MAYBE if I had gone to the concert, but even then it would be an "around-the-house" shirt, if you know what I mean. As in, I don't go outside wearing things THAT ugly.

I'm guilty of buying more than my fair share of Prince "trinkets" at concerts and such, but if somebody told me that they'd send this to me for free if I paid $20 shipping and handling I'd pass.

Seriously, the fucking moderators are hyping up the novelty and value of a purple hat box, for Chrissakes!!! That's beyond delusional, the clueless fucks.

I am selling my own gift box. It comes with a photo album of me holding my various Prince albums and Cds, the socks I wore to the Garden on July 12th, one of my old 24-7 Spyz CDs, an 8x12 photo of some baby that came with a frame I recently bought and a package of black musk incense. And it all comes in a shoebox that's spray painted purple. If you order through my presale you can have this great, awesome , unique item for only $200. $275 for non orgers. Shipping is $60.
