I love u, but I don't trust u anymore?

I just wanted to see if anybody else thinks this is the best song off Rave, and one of his best ballards? I think its great, just P sitting at the piano, there's such emotion in his voice, you know its a very personal trax and straight from the heart.A Classic in my books!!!

no doubt, this is raw, painful, love that you feel how much it can hurt to love another. No matter the situation, another has touched your soul, and being moved by another allows you to still love yet no longer at that emotional level only intimate lovers share.....peace, musze

I think that it is one of the best songs on Rave...seems 2 me that Prince was up late 1 night and had another stroke of genius. He goes up 2 his private sanctuary and sits down at the piano...some1 else is there....I imagine that it was some1 like Mr.Grahm..because he seems2 B lurking around in weird ass places. But at any rate..it's late or should I say early in the morning...probably around 4:00am.He sits down at his piano and the words echo through the mike saying.."Rolling?" as he clears his throat.
cry Even though things have not been going well between him and his "soulmate"..he felt that he needed 2 tell her in a way that she could understand how much she has hurt him...maybe poor his heart out 1 last time Bfore they go there separate ways...and so a song of a beautiful ballard was born. The last chapter in a book that would be closed soon...but the pain that he felt that early morning would live through his heart and through this song 4 ever.

That is just my imagination telling me that this was very personal and probably a turning point in Prince's life.

"Strange but true...let's c what u can do?"

Really, probably the only song on Rave unaffected by somewhat weak production. Just intimate and heartfelt, he probably did it in one take and didn't change anything. Not only the best song on Rave by far (though I'm quite partial to Man o war as well), but one of his best ballads of all time. To me, it even eclipses his other memorable piano ballad at that point- How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore. Almost like that song's younger brother or something.

Agree, one of his best. What a thing to say to someone in song. Very powerful.

Sorry folks but I think this song is pretty tacky. I mean, I wouldn't turn the CD off if it was playing or anything, but I certainly wouldn't pick it as one of the best from Rave.

It sounds more like a demo....
But it isn't so sincere....
The best piece of Rave is the plastic dance Strange But True. True.

Tt is indeed a very beautiful song, I have it on a mix tape and it's directly after 'mother sister lover wife'. Makes me sad everytime I listen to it.

yep. its a winner alright! 'so far so pleased' is cool, but the best track for me is 'the sun the moon and stars'. Greatest Romance was a bit MOR for me...dull dull dull.

I took my sis to the ONA concert.....immediately after the show, she wanted to know what song that was. I told her the name, and how i felt it was one of his best songs...she agreed, and wanted to know if i could record it for her.
At that point, i reminded her that i gave her 'Rave' for a Christmas present...guess she didn't listen to it!! lol
She will now!!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I really love the song, but I would have to say my favorite on the album is strange but true. as far as my favorite ballads, I would have to say how come u don't call me anymore, and the tear jerker "sometimes it snows in april".

I agree that this is one of the best tracks on the Rave album. And if u've recently been through a break-up this is not the song 2 listen 2 because you'll be so depressed that u might contemplate suicide. It reminds me of "I Can't Love U Anymore" from the "I'll Do Anything" sesions.
Another great track from the Rave album was "Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do" and definetly "Man O War", all three of these songs are in the "tear-jerker" catagory. Just imagine if there were videos 4 each of these songs, u can't tell me that they wouldn't have been hits.
Just imagine the video 4 "I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore", Prince playing piano in a darkened room with no light except a spotlight on him and the piano, and Ani DiFranco in the background playing acoustic guitar. There could be flashes of Prince and Mayte back when they were happy inbetween verses. It could have been a simple yet effective visual piece...

Yes, among his many other lovely soulful ballads. Once again, I'd like to add, 'Rave Un2 the joy fantastic' is so underrated by his fans, but I'm one who still likes and plays it.

Truely one of the purest moments on the RAVE cd.
I'm also one of the few that also loves Silly Game...."never with a bodyguard or chaperone..."

I only wish Ani DiFranco had more to do on that track.
