How many versions of "Endorphinmachine" are there? I like the one I have on The Gold Experience album.

Two. The released version from 1994 which is an updated version of the original 1993 recording. I think the original version is far superior to the overproduced, released version. biggrin

the original can be heard on the video that was included on the interactive cd rom.

In April 1996, prince and Mayte started work on their multimedia (book, cassette & CD) bedtime stories for children, entitled Happy Tears, to be released in November 1996 co-inciding with the expected birth of their first child.

- Does anyone know if a Happy Tears CD was ever made/finished? confuse

I can well imagine Be My Mirror on there. lol

Wow I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.

The only two tracks I know of slated for inclusion from Prince were "She Gave Her Angels" and "Starfish & Coffee 96". Not coincidentally, these were the two songs he performed on Muppets Tonight

Sounds quite likely as its sound is similar to the album version of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World. biggrin
And then when Warners asked for it, he could have then made the decision to go even further an actually put it on the Gold Exp. album. nod
So I've moved it on my list - to the March recordings for Gold Exp., although it wasn't included on the album at the time, but was probably recorded around the same time. biggrin.

Indeed. Its hard to say just when he decided it should be included. I'm just glad he did!!

Okay. I'll nail that down on the April configuration and delete the Poem option. biggrin

I think its safe to do so!

I've never heard this. If so, the album could have been the May configuration of Come and then the idea of an EP would probably be The Undertaker which he did indeed plan to release on his birthday, only Warners ordered all printed copies destroyed.

I've wondered about that as well, except for the fact that The Undertaker was supposedly recorded in June. Unless P was just planning on recording it then?? I do seem to remember an interview where he claimed it was recorded over the holidays, when everyone was out of town except for the trio, but that just doesn't jive. Maybe folks were on a summer vacation, in-between the Act I and Act II tours?? Still, it makes way more sense than the EP I heard about. I tend to think that it was just assumed that P was going to use the one-word tracks for the EP, when in reality it was The Undertaker

Despite no such known configuration being made, the idea could have been there. In fact, if there IS an uknown configuration of The Gold Experience in between the March and September/October configurations, the TV movie-version of Come might very well have been on it, as well as Lovesign as mentioned by IstenSzek earlier in this thread. biggrin

I find this highly likely. Now I'm trying to imagine what that would have been like.

Great thread, by the way. This was such an exciting time for me as a fan, because so much music was being recorded, and most of it was leaked in some form or fashion. Add into the mix the fact that he was playing new stuff almost every concert he played. It was so much fun!!

Or the EP you heard of was: prince :The Beautiful Experience EP (early 1994) – mentioned by BorisFishpaw
Track list unknown but 7-track EP including Come and The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

I'm thinking there probably was, but I am a bit hesistant to mention it on the list without at least some form of confirmation from Boris or someone. Boris, are you still with us? What do you think? Was there a Gold Experience configuration - track list unknown but including Come (Beaut. Exp. version) and Lovesign - in between the March and September/October configurations? Possibly made in May alongside the released version of Come, continuing the idea of tying the two albums together with a common song, only now it's Come instead of Interactive? headlp

That does sound familiar. There were a lot of configurations of a lot of ideas around this time.

It also reminds me of something I did hear about 'The Dawn', and that was that 'Come' was
a recurring theme over all 3 discs (Come: original, 18 & Over, Poem etc.). Maybe it's connected
to that? As I'm pretty sure the 'Dawn' idea surfaced a few times during the evolution of Come
and The Gold Experience. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the more 'mixed-up' sequences
of Come, The Gold Experience and Chaos and Disorder were actually Dawn ideas, as the one-
word songs got spread out over all 3 discs.

I'd love to see a tracklist of 'The Dawn', to make mmy own CD-R set.

In part because of this thread and getting excited about the 93/94 era again, I made a CD called 'The Dawn' for someone since they were under the impression that Prince never did anything decent in the 90s, I could have just given them the Gold Experience, but I put my own little spin on it.

Here's the tracklist:

001 // What's My Name (3:05) [ With the "Welcome 2 The Dawn" Prince spoken intro ]
002 // NPG Operator (0:11) [ The '...there are over 500 experiences to choose from' one ]
003 // Interactive (3:01)
004 // NPG Operator (0:05)
[ 'If you would like to access..' from Days Of Wild studio version ]
005 // Come (5:29) [ Beautiful Experience Mix ]
006 // Endorphinmachine (3:49) [ Original version with the 'Are you ready' intro from Interactive ]
007 // Space (4:30)
008 // Acknowledge Me (4:12)
[ Own Edit, simply fades out like the version in the Beautiful Experience ]
009 // New World (3:43)
010 // Loose! (3:26)
011 // Papa (2:48)
012 // NPG Operator (0:09)
[ The 'please access another experience' failure one ]
013 // Race (4:17)
014 // Pheromone (5:02) **
015 // 319 (3:19)
016 // Shy (5:03)
017 // Billy Jack Bitch (5:31)
018 // NPG Operator (0:16)
[ The 'commitment, commitment' on ]
019 // I Hate U [ 7'' Edit ] (4:27)
020 // NPG Operator Segue (0:05)
[ The one from TGE minus the segue from Eye Hate U ]
021 // Gold (7:22)
022 // Love Sign [ Hidden track ]

** Pheromone - Own Edit, I made a loop from the start of the track which comes back in after the song ends, kinda happened by mistake, I was comparing the sound quality of the released version with the Come Test Pressing version, and the released version ended, the other began, and I thought it sounded cool, so I did a bit of chop'n'pasting, and took the 'poem' intro off too.

What I would have liked to have is the version of Interactive that has one less verse and the NPG Operator speech in the middle, I always thought it was so punchy and clever.

I made myself a copy and I've been jammin' to it in the car all week biggrin

No, this would have been early 1993 that I read this, so its almost a year too soon. Maybe he intended to do a release of the aformentioned January recordings, but then scrapped it in favour of The Undertaker (which was, in turn, scrapped by WB)?? Just speculating.

I like Boris' theory that "Come" was going to be a theme of the two albums (or, of "The Dawn" album, had that happened). This is consistent with the "come" bit in the edit of "Interactive", as well as "18 & Over" etc. Makes a whole lotta sense.

Actually, the song will play on a regular CD (it was playable on my buddies car stereo, fo instance), so it should be fairly easy to record off without having to utilise the CD ROM itself. It was also on the bootleg called "Past, Present & Future", along with the original version of "Endorphinmachine". (also includes the NPG operator bits that go along with them!)

And you're probably right, but I don't feel that just because we three can agree to it sounding logical, I can actually put it on the list as something that was really there. So I'll just make a note of it here instead:

It is possible that there was a Gold Experience configuration from May/June 1994 with an unknown tracklist, but including Come (Beaut. Exp. version) and Lovesign.

I've just found a extended version of Acknowledge Me (6:24) that probably is the first version of the song...the released version must be a edit version of this one. There are some extra prince's screams smile and more bonnie boyer screams an extra line that ends with "groove"...didn't understand the beginning...and there are some horns in the end, after the "In all my dreams" speech.

Yeah, that's the original 'unedited' version (though it still fades out). It includes an extra couple
of bars between the end of each chorus and the start of the next verse (including some extra
screams n stuff). Interesting to hear, but the song sounds 'tighter' without them.

Oh, and I just checked on the longer version of Race, and it actually 6:15, not 7:00 as I originally
mentioned (...my mistake). It's still 2 minutes longer than the album version and over a minute
longer than the version of The Beautiful Experience though.
