The earliest circulating versions are the ones from 1994 featuring Derek Hughes on vocals. Personally, I'd guess Prince first recorded it around the same time as Hide The Bone in 1993 because it has the same co-writers, Brenda Lee Eager and Hilliard Wilson. ![]() The Livestudio version was probably made in 1996 with the single release in mind. ![]() [Edited 9/3/04 13:13pm] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The Mustang Mix TOTP performance and the Endorphinmachine performance are just performance videos. If we're including the Endorphinmachine performance in a recording sessions list like the one above because it was released to purchase in this form, does that mean we would also include the Take Me With U and IWD4U/Baby I'm A Star performance videos from 20 years ago in a 1984-1985 equivalent, simply because they were released last week on DVD? Either way, this is a wonderful thread, although I think we're getting into greyer and greyer areas for the sake of keeping the thread bumped up. At some point, we might want to follow Prince's line from Dinner With Delores: "No more. That's the end."

The Interactive CDRom version of Endorphinmachine is on the bootleg "Silver" (along with really terrible quality Glam Slam Ulysses tracks recorded from the audience of a performance) Clocks in at 5.07 (including the extended intro from the game.) Very true, I think you're right. On reflection, I think that any of these rehearsal or live in the studio versions should only be included if they were officially released in an audio-only format at some point (like the 12" version of I Would Die 4 U, the CD Single of Days Of Wild or the NPGMC release of a rehearsal version of Rebirth Of The Flesh). Tracks which only exist as videos should not be included. It's definitely the most logical place to draw the line.

I've burned the restored configurations of COME, TGE and THE UNDERTAKER and just need to flesh out C&D to complete the set [and find a proper home for the brilliant original version of ZANNALEE and the stunning EMPTY ROOM].
I'd love to know the track list for the '94 configuration of Chaos And Disorder. Unfortunately, I don't. Yet. But I have just flipped through Uptown's Days Of Wild and have corrected a few listings for Chaos And Disorder tracks on the chronological list. With the Come single being made prior to 14 October 1994, I've moved 18 & Over #1 & #2 up on the list. ![]() Also, the video for The Same December was shot on 8 November 1994, so the song must have been recorded prior to that. I've just learned that there are actually TWO different versions of POEM in circulation. The first one is the one to which I posted the lyrics on the first COME thread and segues with What's My Name. The other one has some lines added that were later used as segues on the released Come album. That one segues with Interactive.
I'll correct the chronological list immediately. ![]() [Edited 9/8/04 4:19am] [Edited 9/10/04 17:40pm] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not coincidentally, these were the two songs he performed on Muppets Tonight Does anyone have an idea of how to get a hold of a copy of this episode of the Muppets? I would love to see this airing. Also, I heard that he did a remake of Raspberry Beret, only he entitled it Raspberry Sorbet. Apart from that, I didn't know that there was so much to do available about the music from these years. Maybe this is part of the reason why the Gold album once had a release date of: Never. Hmmm...

The earlier configurations used the slightly longer (4:37) Beautiful Experience version of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (...what you might call the 'full length' single version). As far as I know, the March 1994 configuration of The Gold Experience was the first one to include the reworked 'album version'.

"April 1994... A CD, possibly a “working version” or a Paisley Park “in-house” disc, exists with tracks that would eventually find their way on The Gold Experience and Come. It contains the following 11 songs: “Strength,” “Ripopgodazippa,” “Interactive,” “Space,” “Endorphinmachine,” “Days Of Wild,” “Now,” “Angie,” “319,” “The Jam (Graham Central Station’s),” and “Gold.” The album contains many segues, including a bit of the “Coca-Cola Theme Song” before “Gold.” Interestingly, “The Jam (Graham Central Station’s)” featured the tagline, ‘All respect to Larry Graham,’ while “Angie” is a 19-minute cover version of an old Rolling Stones tune. Virtually nothing is known about “Strength.”

I'd forgotten about the track "Strength". I'm sure I've seen this track used as the opening
number on yet another configuration at some point (but I just can't remember where or when). edit: Ahh, I just found it on one of my "original & alternate versions" lists... Days Of Wild 7. Now 8. Angie 9. 319 10. The Jam 11. question 2 Boris...
Prince used/uses 2 play a guitar solo in 93/94 I first heard on the boot Stars&Bars...it's the guitar intro before The Ride...he also played this quite a few times as in sequence 2 She's Always In my hair during the 1993 concerts or as the opening track of June 25 2002 concert @ Paisley Park. Any info if this is actually a song from him or just a guitar solo? It's sometimes referred as Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child but I don't think that's it...too different...could that be an unreleased track?

I haven't heard 'em either, but they've been on my list of chronological recordings since I initially read about them - possibly in Uptown, but I honestly can't remember where. ![]() As you can see, they're listed among other tracks not mentioned in Uptown's later publications, which is weird because I think they printed the lyrics to What It is... once. This is really spooky!
A: this tracklisting isn't a new discovery, it's been mentioned before, a long time ago. B: Everybody (including me) totally forgot about it's existance until now! C: I could have sworn I read about it in 'Days Of Wild' as the first tentative version of The Gold Experience. D: I've just scanned the pages of Days Of Wild thoroughly and I can't find it anywhere! I'd assumed it was a mixture of fact and fiction (remember, at that point he'd never released a cover version), but I'd love it to be true, along with the Tales From An Electric Sun album that I heard about at the same time - anyone have the tracklisting for this (even if it's not a real album)? I'd thought ...Electric Sun was fake, until Love4oneanother (or the equivalent) mentioned that "something Electric" was coming soon, the same time they announced the aborted Face Down maxi-single (which would have included the Holy River instrumental that ended up on NPGMC in 2001... but I digress).

Hi.
I've had chance to look through a few magazines and papers of the time and have noted the following: The Continental magazine circa June 1996, in its review of C&D, states that following an interview for Spanish magazine 'El Pais' with Rosa Montero in 1994, Prince gave her a tape of two songs he said were his favourite at that moment. The tape contained Dolphin and Dinner with Delores. I believe you have a tentative placing of Dinner with Delores as being recorded in early 1996 [the Miami sessions]. In Uptown #20 news section it states that following the US release of COME on 18 August 1994, the NPG shop in Minneapolis handed out the TGE: release date: NEVER! flyers. I believe you have We March as completed in October 1994, which is after this flyer was handed out stating it as a track on TGE. Hope this helps. Anyway I'll keep looking for any tit-bits.
