You must live in Detroit.
I heard it too and was pleasantly surprised that Prince won. I just assumed that since James Brown has been out longer, that out of respect the voters would have voted for JB. It was a great show. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

What was the criteria for the vote? Was it based on the specific songs they played during the show? I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

there was no specific criteria... just played some jams alernating between the 2 and callers voted.
This station does it every saturday night, called the battle of the oldies. Every week different battles. A great night to put your cassette on record and let it go. A couple of weeks ago it was the Dramatics vs the Whispers. Dramatics won! "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Well i think that P is hot right now and thats probably Y he won. I think that although JB is 1 of P's main influences that P has a more diverse body of work, but on the funk tip JB has more funk songs in his repatoire than P and P more diverse styles. I love them both! U,ME,WE!....2FUNKY!

In the tough times he came up through, James Brown did an amazing pioneering job. He created some of the funkiest songs ever created. His influence continues through Prince and MJ and hundreds of hip hop and RnB acts of today. Without JB there may never have been a Prince. He's a legend and he deserves huge props for his work.
But I still prefer Prince.

Not to say that folks can't pick whose music they dig better, but JB laid the groundwork for everybody and everything Funkafized. It's not cool to dis the Flashpoint of Funk. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Prince is the genius, playing keyboards, guitar, drums, bass with virtuosic skill and has a wider range of tone colours and styles than James as a vocalist.
Props due to James as he is the originator and was once brilliant, but Prince took it to another level. . [This message was edited Mon Jul 26 4:14:25 2004 by MrDespuez]
