Let's have some fun. I have already spotted a total of 40 typos and omissions (all belonging to the "Chronology" section).

If you have already received your copy then post any typos and omissions you may have found in the first edition.

Any volunteers?

man....there was a few typos/errors that i came across when i first read through it, but i've forgotten what they were and i have to go through the whole book again.

Here's an example:

p.187: 16 September 1995: "This led straight into "Honky Tonk Woman"" (Women).

It really is that simple.

"The band played... a mostly instrumental version "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"" (of)

OK, here's another one (following page):

p.188: 22 October (AM) 1995: (sixth paragraph)

"He noted how the name "Prince" was on the cover and said something to the affect of..." (effect).

Still undecided? here's another one:

p.221: 28 March (AM) 1998: "The next portion closely resembled the Jam Of The Year tour set: "Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothing", "Delirious", "Let's Work", and Purple Rain"".

(inverted commas preceding "Purple Rain" are AWOL here).

Here's more:

p.230: 21 October 1998: "The ceremony honoured 16 outstanding men, including Muhammed Ali..." (Muhammad).


Also, the following entries for the dates 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 17, 18, 21, 22, 29, and 31 for the month of December 1999 have mysteriously been omitted from THE VAULT, having previously been published in TURN IT UP 02.

So where did those entries go?

Moving on to the new millenium...

p.268: 20 November 2001: "The Rainbow Children" is released to stores... Much like 1992's @, The Rainbow Children is a concept album..."

(should be , not @)

(also, on the same paragraph): "Prince made a clear statement of his apparent adoption of the principals and faith of the Jehovah's Witnesses". (principles).

"Comparisons were made with The Weather Report and Steely Dan..." (there should be no "The" suffix attached to Weather Report).

"Otherwise, the Jehova's Witness content received little criticism..." (Jehovah).

Moving on...

p.272: 5 April(AM) 2002: "Then, abruptly stopping the song, he launch into "I Wanna Get Funky"..." (launched).

p.273 (same date as above): "...the non-NPG Music Club attendees were won over towards the end of he show..." (the).

p.274: 20 April (AM) 2002: "Prince follows up the first Los Angeles concert with an aftershow The Highlands" (at The Highlands).

"He then went into a rip-roaring version of "Bambi" which set the mood of the rest of the night." ( using "for" instead would have been more grammatically correct).

"During the medley, Sheila E. peaked her head onstage by Blackwell." (peeked).

"As Sheila was about to walk out the same way she walked in, Prince started playing "A Love Bizarre" on guitar as the band quickly followed". (the overall context indicates "and" would have been more accurate).

(same page) 21 April (AM) 2002: "Sheila started doing a "Holly Rock" chant and then took a drink of her water and spit it out". (spat).

"...leaving his guitar still playing on the floor, which echoed through the club for at least 10 minutes later" ("the next ten minutes" would have been grammatically correct).

p.275: 1 May (AM) 2002: "He seemed to take particular joy in having them sing the line "soul psychedelicide"". ("soul psychodelicide").

p.275: 28 May 2002: "Following a one-month tour break, Prince launches a Canadian leg of the One Nite Alone... tour..." (the).

p.278: 23 JUne 2002: "Prince led everyone in the chant of "It Ain't Over" as everyone marched out as they had came..." (as they had come).

p.279: 25 JUne 2002: "A soulful rendition of Bill Whither's hit..." (Whithers').

p.291: 23 October 2003 (AM): "Blackstreet's "No Diggity" came next, sung by Change Howard". (Chance).

p.292: 17 December 2003 (AM): "...sung by Change Howard..." (Chance).

p.293: 20 December 2003 (AM): "...Blackstreet's "No Diggety"..." ("No Diggity").

Let's leave "The Chronology" section for variety's sake.

Bonus typos, from elsewhere in THE VAULT:


p.389 (fourth paragraph): "Diamonds And Pearls" album review:

"Thunder"... Prince was inspired to write the song after watching in horror on CNN the initial attack on Iraqui, launched January 18th 1991." (attack on Iraq).

p.467: Jevetta Steele: "Here It Is" album review:

(third paragraph): "Skip 2 My U My Darlin'" is a more lighthearted" (song).

the one typo that stands out most in my mind was the writeup of the song "avalanche" from ONA, where it says abe lincoln was america's first president.

Here's a challenge to all orgers:

The first orger to post the next 40 typos, errors and omissions from the current edition of THE VAULT will be sent a DVD of the London Earl's Court gig from June 25th 1992.

The picture quality on this disc is MUCH better than what is currently circulating.

Is that sufficient incentive for y'all?

There are plenty more typos and errors to choose from so no repeats from what has already been posted are allowed..

I think i would rather shave with a cheese grater than look for 40 typos.

And before somebody says a lot of authors make typos/omissions/info erros, yeah, I realize that. Save it.

This should make it easier for those of you who have the book.

First person to post a list of 20 typos, errors, omissions or an assortment of those from THE VAULT will get a DVD disc of the currently circulating Earl's Court gig, otherwise known as the shitty version.

But the first to post a list of 40 will get a copy on DVD of the footage I have just transferred from the screen mix, still unavailable anywhere else and henceforth to be known as the giotto version.

Conversely, the "The" suffix has at times been omitted when it has merited inclusion.
As in here:

p.203: 24 February 1997: "He spoke with Mel B. of --- Spice Girls after the show". (The)

This might appear subjective, but band names are brand identities minutely catalogued for legal purposes. Therefore it is valid to refer to this as a typo.
