Yeah,Tricky does act a little gay at times.I noticed this when I first saw the movie.

Prince is as camp as tits any way, so it didn't take much of a stretch in the acting department did it.

let's see -- tricky ONLY and EVER has a little gay streak when he and prince are hamming it up, joking it up, alone. and prince slightly reciprocates. does this make them gay? nope. does this mean they're playing? yup.

"girl, don't you know i'll slap the waves out of your head!" (after christopher sez, "butterscotch...chocolate...no way")

Their whole relationship, not just the rose petals in the bath (rose petals in the MFin' bath, people!) and the little campy lisping quips, seems like a lovers' relationship. Tricky spends the entire movie being insanely jealous of Mary. When a straight man is supposed to meet his boy at the bar, and his boy doesn't show up, does he get stinking drunk and cry about "getting dogged"? And when Tricky tells Christopher, "Women don't like you, they use you!" that doesn't sound like jealousy? "Come on baby, forget those bitches, only I can love you right!!

Under The Cherry Moon is my favorite gay movie of all time.

I showed this movie to my girlfriend, and she thought they both came off as gay, but she's not a fan, she knows nothing of his music. I think this is what killed the movie for the general public... one minute he's pissed off rocker, the next he's flamboyantly prancing through gay Paris. I can understand how one would make the mistake of this being a gay picture.

Knowing Prince through his music, I can watch this movie and see it for what it is... a tongue-in-cheek comedy.

So... having said that, my shit is straight.

When I first saw this movie years and years ago I was afraid it was the worst movie of all time. Then my movie viewing got a little more expansive and I've come to see movies that were worse ("Armageddon")(sp). But looking back I see that it is quirky as hell, and I like quirky, after all I like Prince. It's a movie I want to see again after glancing at the edited version on VH1. So I think Prince will develop a cult classic with this one. It's a film not to be taken seriously but from what I remember it was a lot of fun. Wierd and fun.

Am I stupid? I just always thought they were brothers with different fathers.
I thought Christopher's character was just going to PRETEND that he wasn't Tricky's brother when the police questioned him. Dayum. I guess somethings just go over my head.

It was almost as if they were about to kiss. yuck!!! And the absolute worst scene was when P was in the tub with the rose petals and the rubber ducky and tricky is in there just having a casual conversation...

2. when tricky sez, "i'm my own man...just like liberace." if you look really close, it's a clear-cut voiceover. he does day, "i'm my own man...just like...", but i really don't think the script originally read "liberace." the best i've been able to make out of it is "just like john wayne." a very different situation, but quite probable, seeing as he is wearing a silly cowboy hat during the scene. look at the scene again -- look for the edit -- does he say john wayne? if he did, why might they have changed it? and what effect might that have had?
