Under The Cherry Moon... in Under The Cherry Moon don't you think Tricky acts a little "gay" i mean not that there's anything wrong with that but when i 1st saw the movie i thought he was gay..i guess other's thought that too because i remember on video soul Donnie Simpson asked Jerome if his role was gay and Jerome said "NO NO Tricky is not gay!" Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

You mean camp.
Prince is as camp as tits any way, so it didn't take much of a stretch in the acting department did it.

oh geez.
no. let's see -- tricky ONLY and EVER has a little gay streak when he and prince are hamming it up, joking it up, alone. and prince slightly reciprocates. does this make them gay? nope. does this mean they're playing? yup. examples: "i never dance before midnite, but, if you insist..." (spoken after christopher slips on the rug and falls into tricky's arms) "girl, don't you know i'll slap the waves out of your head!" (after christopher sez, "butterscotch...chocolate...no way") counterexamples: tricky's statements -- "mmm, mmm, mmmmm." christopher responds: "man i ain't never seen anybody chase girls the way you do." tricky responds, "I'LL stop chasing girls when you stop chasing dreams..." "i like mary as much as you, probably more..." "cuz you know that if i'd drop the bomb on mary she'd fall in love with me..." "i like em nice too." mary: "what do you mean?" tricky: "you know, like you..." (something like that) AND LEST WE FORGET OUR FIRST REAL INTRODUCTION TO TRICKY: TAGGING KATIE ON THE LOBBY FLOOR OF THEIR APARTMENT BUILDING.

And you're missing a ton of examples. How about when Tricky says, "I don't need friends. I'm my own man, just like Liberace!" Their whole relationship, not just the rose petals in the bath (rose petals in the MFin' bath, people!) and the little campy lisping quips, seems like a lovers' relationship. Tricky spends the entire movie being insanely jealous of Mary. When a straight man is supposed to meet his boy at the bar, and his boy doesn't show up, does he get stinking drunk and cry about "getting dogged"? And when Tricky tells Christopher, "Women don't like you, they use you!" that doesn't sound like jealousy? "Come on baby, forget those bitches, only I can love you right!! Under The Cherry Moon is my favorite gay movie of all time. The Normal Whores Club

That didn't mean they wanted to hold my hand walking down the street singing Ebony & Ivory. I could see if he was pursuing Tricky has hard as he was pursuing Mary, then I might have to think twice, but that was not the case. What I meant was, I am straight so I see it as a straight movie. If a gay person watches it, it's more likely to come off as gay, that's all. I looked at your profile, and you flipped me off, so I am put in my place. I showed this movie to my girlfriend, and she thought they both came off as gay, but she's not a fan, she knows nothing of his music. I think this is what killed the movie for the general public... one minute he's pissed off rocker, the next he's flamboyantly prancing through gay Paris. I can understand how one would make the mistake of this being a gay picture. Knowing Prince through his music, I can watch this movie and see it for what it is... a tongue-in-cheek comedy. So... having said that, my shit is straight. Lovesexy Funkateer

I agree that the idea that someone can "act" gay is bullshit and based strictly on sterotypes. That campy/femme-y act is not the part that screams "homo" to me. That said, you gotta admit saying "I'm just like Liberace!" is a little, well, you know...gay. The Normal Whores Club

Here's a line you forgot.
Christopher: "If two people really loved one another, they couldn't be torn apart no matter what happened. For example, do you love me?" Tricky: (grimace) Christopher: "Come on, you know what I'm talking about." Tricky: (takes off Christopher's glasses) "Girl, I loved you for years." Christopher: "Yes?" Tricky: "YEAH, YEAH!"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
When I first saw this movie years and years ago I was afraid it was the worst movie of all time. Then my movie viewing got a little more expansive and I've come to see movies that were worse ("Armageddon")(sp). But looking back I see that it is quirky as hell, and I like quirky, after all I like Prince. It's a movie I want to see again after glancing at the edited version on VH1. So I think Prince will develop a cult classic with this one. It's a film not to be taken seriously but from what I remember it was a lot of fun. Wierd and fun.

Am I stupid? I just always thought they were brothers with different fathers.
I thought Christopher's character was just going to PRETEND that he wasn't Tricky's brother when the police questioned him. Dayum. I guess somethings just go over my head. S Filthy cute and baby U know it

Tricky: "YEAH, YEAH!" nope didn't like this scene at all, nor the one when they are doing that "butterscotch and chocolate" scene when they look into each other's eyes like they are supposing to be eating chocolate or candy or something. It was almost as if they were about to kiss. yuck!!! And the absolute worst scene was when P was in the tub with the rose petals and the rubber ducky and tricky is in there just having a casual conversation... but hey like someone else said is true, u can't put an actual description on what is and what isn't gay, just read those articles about those guys on the (d.l.) down low. They look like they are straight, and consider themselves straight but they are really bisexual. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

"tell u what...why don't you handle the $, and leave the drawers to me?"
anything gay bout that? nope. and i really want to know the most important thing ever (well, 2 things actually...) 1. love or $? 2. when tricky sez, "i'm my own man...just like liberace." if you look really close, it's a clear-cut voiceover. he does day, "i'm my own man...just like...", but i really don't think the script originally read "liberace." the best i've been able to make out of it is "just like john wayne." a very different situation, but quite probable, seeing as he is wearing a silly cowboy hat during the scene. look at the scene again -- look for the edit -- does he say john wayne? if he did, why might they have changed it? and what effect might that have had?
