Mark Brown gets on my nerves as well sometimes. Instead of saying he deserves credit for helping to arrange and funkify "Kiss", he basically implies he wrote it entirely ("When I wrote the music for Kiss" type statements make it sound like Prince just wrote the lyrics--like Prince is Bernie Taupin..)

Have you heard the demo of "Kiss" that Prince passed on to Mark & David Z. for Mazarati? The only similarity to the finished song is the lyrics. Mark and/or David and/or Mazarati did more than "arrange" the song, and they did a GREAT job. That's why Prince took it back. wink

Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Then BM should fully understand and support Jill in joint effort to be acknowledged for their work
As well. They should be working together. I would think he could relate.

don't cuss out/and tear down a man and his friends/family and then expect support...
If he gives it/if they give it, it is an act of grace

Yes, I have. Its not just the "lyrics" that are the same. It is the notes in the melody (although Prince in the demo sings lower and with some "country" intonation.)

THe original (as far as I can tell--since only one minute and 14 seconds exists) is basically a country song with chord accompaniment but the notes in the chorus and verse are the same ...Not just the lyrics but the notes as well. They are just a bit slower and in a lower octave..

Mazarati basically changed it from a country-like song to a funk song and they were brlliant to recognize its potential. the accompaniment music is different in the Mazarati version (and improved...admitedly) and its a bit more uptemo.. However, the vocals suck in the Mazarati (stiff in comparision to pRince's in the final version) and the guitar part (in the middle) is harder to hear than Prince's final version and a little less intricate. And the opening funky chords from the final version are not in the Mazarati version.

They improved the song and should have gotten some credit...but not all credit for the "music"..that's ridiculous. The final product is still better than their version (admittedly, their work is featured in the final but so of course are Prince's improvements), but neither is totally different or musically unassociated with the original. Its a simple song brought to life with flair from both Mazarati and later Prince again.

Typically, in pop songs, the melody and lyrics determine who wrote the song. When Prince redid Come Together in concert, he didn't ask for writing credits or something like that. It was a country-gospel like arrangement with different accompaniment, but the melody and lyrics were still John Lennon.

Who had first dibs on the P man? Was it Jill, Denise, Susan Moonsie? Susannah came in after they did, right? When did Sheila come into the picture?

within the camp

.

Susan Moonsie was 'friend/lover' with Prince 1979/80

Prince met Jill Jones on the Fire It Up tour, but it wasn't until somewhere in Controversy period that she had Prince connected.

Prince (along with Andre Cymone) were persuing Sheila E around 1980(?) but nothing came of that until 1983. Sheila E said she say there were too many women around Prince and had to pull away from the 'romantic' side, she picked back up with Prince in 1987 which is when he asked her to marry him

Vanity came along also in 1981 during the Controversy period when he was trying to form the Hookers and the 2nd Coming movie project

Susannah Melvoin came in in the latter half of 1983

.

He met Devin somewhere during the PR tour

He met Anna Fantastic at the end of the SOTT tour

Sheila E hooked up with Prince romance wise in the middle of the PR tour not in 87.

She discusses this in her book.

Kim Upshur would have been before Jill and Jill actually met Kim when she came to live in Prince's house. This is when she found out she was going to be the number two women.

Thanks OldFriends & Laura for the Ladies Timeline lol. I'm so late to this thread but all the info has me glued to the posts now.

Question: Was there ever a time when Jill was the main chick?

lol U R Welcome

.

I think she was more like a friend with benefits

.

A lot of the music Prince did with her (protege vision) seemed to place her 1/2 the time as the 'other woman' or the unrequited lover

When I hear All Day All Night I think of 1st Ave 6-7-1984 where the Revolution put their stamp on it. Not sure why Jill thinks they even think about her when they added that to their set? She NEVER did for that song what they did. She couldn't come off as a more bitter woman if she tried. Especially she had shit to say about Prince before he died comparing him to Chris Brown in one of her meltdowns. She's talking all this shit as the Revolution brings fans together to heal at their shows....says a lot about all involved.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

I think she thought she was the main chick but at the same time she talked about driving him and Ola Ray around in her car. So she must have known even as a 19/20 year old that he was a player.
