How recent? I know he posted their pic right after he passed away and then again few days later. A 3rd time now? Poor guy. He and Prince grew up together but I think right around Purple Rain, they had a minor falling out.

I know, i was thinking that too..i could see doing it once after she died in February and then again after he died 7 weeks later, but apparently he really loved Prince and from what Vanity used to say about him, he was like a brother to her. I do feel for Morris.

Sometimes when it happens this way, with such surprise and an almost a kind of Aww to it, i mean he lost 2 people he cared about in such a short time...maybe he's just trippin cuz they ARE 2gether now..finally..it still blows my mind and i never met them

Maybe it's both. Perhaps he's happy that they are together again because he knows that they were always meant to be together and finally they can be. Then, he lost both of them within 2 months of each other. That's a huge loss for us fans, but it's incredibly big for someone who spent a LOT of time with them. Didn't Prince make him come along on the first date he and Denise had? I thought I read that here. He was there at the start of their relationship.

When I heard that Denise had died, I knew Prince would be hurting but I didn't expect he would go so soon after her. None of us did. It's been a huge shock.

Yeah its not been easy...been in a funk ever since i heard on April 21st @ 3:22 in the afternoon driving home from work when the radio DJ blurted it out, i almost crashed my car

I find it amazing that a very young woman like Vanity, who was only around Prince for a year and a half steady, had such an impact on us and on him. Even though they never got back together, most fans (not just here but on other forums) think that Vanity was the one who had his heart. Even after the millions of other look alikes he dated and married. She had some kind of special quality, even if she was damaged. After 30 years past the breakup, Prince sings most of a concert to her and is pretty messed up.

I'm wondering too. I agree he should've pursued her again. They were both mature and passed all the stuff that hurt their relationship the first time. They seemed to be living parallel lives.

I Know alot of people here have said he used it on the Come album to help with her medical bills, but he was using that sample before she got sick. There has to be another reason.

I've always thought that the royalties help for her medical bills was when he listed her as the songwriter on Nasty Girl on the Girl 6 soundtrack. Movie soundtracks are very lucrative and I think that they are paid out of the films budget and not just record sales. My take on why they did not get back together was the timing was always off. In the song Sea of everything he says the line, you and I are like two ships passing never reaching shore. I also think that she was in such a place spiritually that he had to catch up with her. It would have been open season on her. I think he loved her too much too put her through all that considering all of her health issues. Look at how much press the dedication at the Melbourne show got as well as the speculation of him coming to her funeral. He would have probably had to move her to that house on the island to get some peace and quiet. The fans would have been cool with it but tmz and friends would have been rough. My two cents.

Yeah I noticed that too, like I said he could have re-recorded this using other proteges. I found this podcast from Polished Solid https://www.thefuture.fm/...form=hoots and she does a nice tribute to Vanity and mentions how frequently Prince used this sample, maybe because he missed her. Very interesting theorie she has.

Maybe he used it because he really liked to hear her like this. I've got to admit, she sounds wonderful. It probably brought back alot of memories for him.

I noticed this too with all the tributes that I have been collecting and nothing about Nona Gaye. In fact I am finding alot of stuff they are not acknowleding certain people who played a major role in Prince's career and life .eg. Time tribute they say that Judith Hill was discovered by Prince, when in fact she was discoverd by MJ for his This Is It Tour, and in the same mag leave out Shelby and Andy Allo! Research people!

Excellent points. Those lyrics make sense in the context. Many songs are about her and their relationship. She knew which ones. She had songs about him too. "Samuelle" I believe to be about Prince. Who knows maybe that whole entire album is about him. The song 7th Heaven is interesting as she refers to elevator. In that youtube video that is posted earlier in this thread that has her friend, "The Jedi" paying tribute to her, he says that she would talk about Prince here and there and one time, they were in a car going somewhere and "Let's Go Crazy" came on and she said, "you know that song is about me, right?". He says that she started to elaborate, but then cut herself off. What was up with the whole elevator thing? It sound ominous now since he died in an elevator.

I have the DMSR book and I was reading today about how possessive Prince was about his girlfriends. He was apparently 'engaged' to Susan Moonsie the summer of 1981, and was still seeing other girls, but had meltdowns when 'his' girl was getting hit on or showed interest in another guy. Maybe he had Napoleon Syndrom that way. I think Vanity dishing it back out both earned his respect and repelled him. And when she got married out of the blue that must have sent him over the edge. Maybe that's why he sang the song 'Eye love U but eye don't trust U anymore.' the last concert in Atlanta. The verse where it says 'good old days' he yells out 'the 80s!' and the next line is about his favorite protege. Maybe her marriage was the point of no return...someone did that to me once, and I swore I would never look them up online or in person ever again. And I haven't.

I loved Vanity solo work too, Wild Animal is my fav I hope one day they will all be re-issued, along with other protege albums.

Well Nona was in the early 90s when he was juggling about a million girls at once. Then Vanity got married and Mayte got preggers. I never saw her as exclusive or anything. Whereas Vanity, when she was around, everyone else was redundant. No disrespect to Nona but they didn't seem a great match in terms of chemistry.

oh I bet the elevator going down was her tendency to give into bad feelings due to her abusive past and Prince would lift her spirits back up, and vice versa. that makes alot of sense, also the years they were together they were at the epicenter of all things cool happening. Such a cool experience but so many distractions as well. work and party, back and forth. lots of pressure.

I think Nona had alot of potential (as a singer, model and actress), kind of fallen off the radar for now and she was so stunning. But Vanity is the original protege and unforgetable, even after 20 years she is still influential (whether she liked it or not). My fav pic of Vanity 6, thank goodness their live show is still on YT and Prince, The Time and Vanity albums/tour is my fav era.
