^^You bring up a good point.I'm glad that Morris and the guys didn't become all religious That's why their album is so much fun. They're still cussing and having fun!

Their songs may have won more awards, but they only have 5. I know Usher won a couple for "U Remind Me" (which they co-wrote and produced), but they didn't win anyting.

I just got my copy yesterday and I listened to it 3 times through today at work. I must say that I am happy with the project they delivered. Is it perfect? ...NO, but it is a solid effort and should wake urban r&b radio up.
The more I listened to the album, I couldn't help but think that THIS is the kind of album they have wanted to make for a while. "Pandemonium" was close, but Prince's choice for singles KILLED the promotion for the album. With the guys running the show, they know what they want and what they think should be serviced to radio and other outlets.
I think "#Trendin" is a great first single. I wouldn't have picked it, but I can understand why they did it. It has a modern reference, yet still delivers the funk with an edge (like they've always tried to do).

Gotcha. I was talking about all of their songs together winning Grammies, not just them as a duo or whatever. Can you imagine how many awards they would have amassed if they kept all of the tunes they've given out??
And, I'm not trying to put Prince and his accomplishments down when I was making the comparison in the first place. I was just trumpeting the group as a whole and saying the whole "overseeing" statement was just completely out of place with them.

yeah i'm digging the background hook too man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

"Condesate", the song, has a definite "If A Girl Answers Don't Hangup" element to it. I'm digging that track more and more with each listen. It's something about this song that I can't get enough of.

Don't ever order anything via mail from Best Buy--their service totally sucks. I'm still waiting for the CD/DVD Original 7ven pack I ordered a week ago. Even with delivery confirmation, the last confirmation stated that it was sent out for delivery in the wrong city and zip code! Never had this problem with Amazon. I'm so disgusted I think I will go to Best Buy and do what I should have done in the first place--BUY IT IN PERSON! Loving the album on the whole but lifestyle and hey yo are awful. I don't think they outshine Prince's recent output. I wouldn't say it's any better or worse than 3121,Mplsound or 20ten.

I've previewed the thing several times on iTunes...and have absolutely no interest in purchasing it. It's just...meh. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

its not for everyone....BUT IT SURE IS FOR ME!! WOW!! Best cd I have heard since Purple Rain!! LOVIN IT!! I didn't like the sample either actually and boy was I wrong!!

^I'm quite surprised that so many Prince fans seem to tolerate such a calculated poppy approach.

Y'know...this is what's bothering me about both this album and Gaslight. They both just sound sort of...bland. Like albums that would be put out by the parents of The Time and The Family. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Gaslight is too heavily influenced by the sound of Wendy & Lisa on some songs. Which is cool if you're a fan of Wendy & Lisa's recent releases and if you're not then .
Condensate is just the guys following the blueprint that Prince laid out for them decades ago. It's good music but doesn't show any evolution or risk taking for the most part. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I don't think Condensate sounds bland at all.To me,it sounds fun and vibrant....with a real 'party vibe' throughout. This is just a bunch of old buddies grooving and having fun....the kind of album that Prince would make if he hadn't become all religious and conservative.

I've already started skipping these 4 tracks entirely. My favorite part of the CD has to be the last 4 tracks(One Step - GoHomeToYoMan). Definitely the part of the CD that gets me. It speaks to the fact that some people are hypercritical of Prince and the standards he must maintain for their approval. Take the track 'Cadillac' for example, that is by far some of the laziest shit I've ever listened to ever. It sounds like a tricked out car commercial advertisment! Yet it's being heralded as great on these threads. At first it's catchy then after a few listens it just makes you want to scream, "I'll buy the fucking car, just turn it off already!" When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Am I the only one who likes Lifestyle? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Wanted to give this a spin a few times before commenting. First off- it's an excellent overall album. Nice variety, full sound. For those that have said Prince's last 5 albums or so stacked up to this they are dead wrong imo. Sonically better, more inspired and WAY more fun. So that's all I'll say about that.
Strawberry Lake is fun...reminds me of Ice Cream Castles and clearly an homage to Sly and the Family Stone. Could live without it...but I never end up skipping it.
Condesate is PURE HARD FUNK. Just goes to show you don't have to make weak and watered down once you get older. Love to see other artists take their lead and do the same (Bootsy still does...but I can't think of too many others.)
Trendin- great radio track. Proving by getting airplay. Takes what they do well and throw a little contemporary keyboard.
If I Was Yo Man - sounds like some of the Janet Jackson and Human League tracks J&T produced. I could lose it but agian- I don't skip it. I like a lot of the playing on it.
Role Play is kinda funky....especially the guitar. I don't like the horn samples/scratching much - sounds very 90s. Not that I had a problem with teh 90s...but never liked that sound.
Sick- first time thought it might be a skipper- but the guitar is amazing....and it catches on after a while. I cranked this in he car.
Lifestyle- probably the one I could lose. I get what they were trying to do....but sounds cliche and old until then cliche and contemporary. Cliche is the operative word here. Faithful- has not hit me yet. Kinda cool, but it doesn't stick for me yet. But I think it might.
Cadillac is really unexpected. Wanted to not like it. That lasted for one play. Then I keep going back to it. It's deceptively simple.
AYDKM - wish they let Jesse handle the vocals on this. I actually like the music...just don't like Morris singing it.
One Step- shows they can not only hang with Outkast and Janelle Monae but that they had a lot of that in their original music. I can understand it's a weird choice, but I like that they did it.
Toast to the Party girl is fun and infectious..lotta MPLS sounds (real ones) on this. Like how it finishes up like Bby I'm a Star and Jungle Love smashed together. With Jimmy playing What Have You Done For me Lately.
Hey Yo. I HATE it when I hear contemporary artists do this kind of track. MOSTLY because I've then seen them live and they suck even with autotune! THIS on the other hand I like - it's a nice flow, and I can imagine them actually playing this well live. I also like that they stretch out this way for one track.
Go Home To Yo Man...this is both well done AND funny. The chorus cracks me up every time. And they hit on a classic groove that doesn't end up sounding too dated.
Overall I think this is great effort and it will be in my car for a while. Many songs stand up to their best. The difference is I don't have the time after school to do nothing but sit and listen to music. My teenager, however, does.... and he already likes it! I honestly don't know how you could like the first two Time albums and not at least like four or five of these songs. They bring the REAL MPLS sound back...not weak imitation.

Lol..Prince has had a lazy poppy approach to most of what he has done since Rainbow Children (I didn't care for that album...but he made some effort). Simplicity is not always laziness either. I think that Cadillac track is fun to listen to. Might get old at a point, but not bad ebough to make me scream. People expect Prince (as other artists) to be engaged when he makes music - why bother otherwise. IMO he has only gone through the motions and it shows. THIS album (and fDeluxe) both have styles I enjoy AND sound as if the music needed to get out NOW versus stuff that is tepid and has no inspiration. Again- my opinion..but I think that is what people are recting to on this album. It FEELS like they worked hard and had fun making it. Plus they know a thing or two about hooks and playing as a bonus.

Sorry have to disagree with you, 3121 and especially the lotusflowr cd are not lazy and if you can enjoy Cadillac of all songs i don't see how you can not like one track from those two Prince cds. but i do agree that the condensate cd is very well crafted and a huge winner.

To be honest i think its more than what people think and also LESS than what they think, its not just a situation of "Prince wanting to be Prince", to a certain extent and we know this is 100% true, THE TIME was more than a Prince creation, YES these dudes kicked ass on stage and kept it going, but who made the songs at the time? regardless of what we feel towards Prince now and the name THE TIME, u cannot deny that HE put them on the map, and YES their talents kept them there i agree on that, but someone does put U in that position. NOW the name thing to me is both legal and also, the fact that PRINCE created most of the time's catalog himself. So i can understand it to an extent, i think WARNER still has a huge hold on that name more than we know, so alot of what WE view as Prince being a prick about things ex..youtube and others, its also WB pulling strings still, PRINCE's work is NOT FREE from their hold.
As for this record i do agree its strong, to me i was never huge on the TIME stuff, here and there i dug them, but they to me were almost like Prince's comedic side, so im glad this album shows them as more than that! I dont know how much censorship is an issue, maybe again to an extent it is, but again i think we give it more weight with Prince than it has. TRUE the man has certain beliefs and he will always do what he wants, but lets all be real, when did he bend to others ways? if Prince were the type of artist that adjusted to what industry and people wanted, you pretty much wouldnt have any of the records after Purple Rain that U did, because they all went against what Purple Rain created.
Now i love Prince, have since day one, but i feel like any other artist with careers and catalogs we will all disagree on work, people site albums like Planet Earth and 20ten and Chaos and DIsorder as shitty work, to me its some of his better work, i do agree that right now, Prince doesnt have a band around him to challenge him, when he was younger there was competition and now there isnt, so he will do what he wants, and hire who he wants, i feel that One Nite Alone and that era was the man at his musician BEST. But people will disagree but thats the way it goes when you have a talented artist that has done it all really. Seems like it. When they wanted to cut 2 tracks and Jesse convinced them not to I think this was one of them and AYDKMN was probably the other! I've followed Wendy and Lisa since the first album and they've changed their sound from a more funky vibe to a more laid back ethereal vibe. I like them both but the latter is not for everyone.
