Maybe they should've renamed themselves PartyUp as an ode to how they became....oh, wait, that's right, Prince owns that too...nevermind

The album is ok. Not my thing though.

I like Cadillac. I would love and extended instrumental remix of it.

I would rate this album just beneath Pandemonium. My least favorite Time album.

LOVE THE NEW RECORD!!!

It's so good, and it makes me really wish Prince had other people around him to bounce ideas off and call him on shit lol.

I couldn't help but notice two things while listening:

In the song Faithful, Morris sings "But just the same we're more than friends"

which has the same melody as when Prince sings "But it feels like a million days", from A Million Days, obviously

and secondly i thought it was cute when Jimmy Jam did a little piano bit on Toast To The Party Girl, around 4:19, he does a little piano bit from the end of What Have You Done For Me Lately.

anyone catch anything else? biggrin

what is it saying when i've played this album on repeat constantly and have already surpassed how many times i played 20ten which was about 4 times?

It's saying that these dudes made you wait 21 years for a new song! The music is great but to compare it to anything Prince has done in that time period is not really fair to them. They have a long way to go as artists with no one overseeing them before they can be compared to any long running act still out today.

"Overseeing them"? Who says they need overseeing? Please. The band has more chops and experience than Prince does when you add up the "hands off" skills and experience of Jam & Lewis, Jesse, Morris, Monte, and 'Bean! Jam/Lewis have more Grammys than Prince does, so to say they need to prove something without being "overseen" just doesn't make sense to me.

This line-up was a dead issue by the end of 1983. Jam & Lewis were fired and Moir had bounced. If Purple Rain wasn't made they would've most likely broken up after 2 albums. If Prince hadn't decided to do 'Grafitti Bridge' then this line up would've never even attempted to get back together. All previous Time CDs were 'Prince overseen projects'. This is the first CD they've done without Prince or anyone overseeing them as a group. Being good at what you do as an individual artist/producer doesn't always translate into success when you do it for yourself, ask Will.I.Am. This is a good CD but it's their first (as a group) in the sense of them being in control and it took them 21 years to put aside the issues between them to put it together.

ummmm 20ten was garbage ranking right up there with planet earth. time withstanding how long it's been pandemonium, this is head bobbing, funky face, dancing fun type of record. 20ten isn't this funky fun

The thing about the comparison is that everyone seems to want to compare 'Condensate' to whatever they consider Prince's worst CD to be. How about comparing it to his best CD that he released in the past 21 years.

Finally having total control over their product essentially makes The Original 7ven a 'new' band. I think this is a great effort and a very good CD but can they keep it up for the next thirty years. I pose the same question to them that I asked of FDeluxe "Is this a one-time thing or will there be futre projects?" It's easy to ride the wave and the hype of the nostalgia surrounding the return of 'The Time' but can they keep it up for the long haul? This particular line up of the group was dead in the water by the end of the 1999 tour in 1983. If it wasn't for 'Graffiti Bridge' getting them back together this CD would've probably never been made because they didn't even want to try for themselves(even they said they wanted it to die in the liner notes).

first let's be real, the time in any form they have been only had four albums worth or material and morris's solo material 2 work with. most of the band members are in the same age bracket as prince is right now so we can only go by that alone. i am not one of those that hated lotusflow3r/mplsound cause i recognized the funk and rock and the energy of those songs on those albums. out of prince's entire catalog 4 me, planet earth and 20tem are the worst pieces of work he's ever done. i haven't heard the fdeluxe album as of yet so i'm not even gonna compare them 2 the time or prince.

condensate is the album i wish prince could bring again from where start 2 finish i'm smiling, i'm dancing, i'm grooving. i haven't seen the time perform live since 1996 because i knew it would be the same old same old. now someone like prince who has put out albums since pandemonium can't even be bothered to play his current material live and have the passion for the songs he created all because of the paycheck..yeah i said it and that's sad. even his own fans thumb their nose towards his new work but just look at this thread and see how many are JAMMING 2 this new work for the time and really only wish that prince wasn't a dickheard about the name change, same thing about fdeluxe too, and hope he can find inspiration enough 2 pull out a fine album again. 20ten wasn't it.

only time can tell if the time continue 2 put out material and continue onward. and even i liked pandemonium but wasn't impressed with the versions of data bank and some others but i was jumping for joy with that release.

nothing wrong with wanting a cd of music that one can fully enjoy from the time u click play 2 the time it ends. condensate is that album for me

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Just to put things in perspective...

Strawberry Lake

annoying chorus; Sly & Family Stone rip-off, not a proper song more of an intro jam

Condensate

ok; rehash of things done before

Trendin’

horrible poppy lead line & chorus

If I was yo man

disgusting simple pop harmonies and melody (pre-chorus and chorus); at least they try to save their reputation with some funk ingredients

Role Play

ok; more mature groove; little bit too repetitive

Sick

ok funk rock number by Jesse, again with kinda jacksonesque sounding choruses

Lifestyle

princely verses; again horrible poppy chorus

Faithful

mediocre stuff

Cadillac

boring rehash

AYDKMN

typical funk rock number by Jesse; better than "Sick"

One step

kinda ok; cool Jesse solo

Toast to the party girl

retro-sound; annoying “Yeah, yeah”-chorus; lots of old school jammin’

Heyo

The Time goes contemporary, not too original

Go Home to Yo Man

retro-sound; typical R&B ballad

I don't think they do. Jam and Lewis have 5 Grammy Awards. Prince has 7.

Their songs HAVE to have garnered more than just 5 Grammys. I'll have to double-check this number, but I could've sworn they're responsible for more than just 5 Grammys!

Haven't read every post on every thread devoted to the album, so, sorry if it's been mentioned before, but:

Maybe one of the reasons Prince didn't want to be associated with the album, or allow the name, The Time, is the language? I'm sure he would frown on the repeated use of "shit".

Isn't that why Morris Day's It's About Time CD has censored version of the classic Time tracks? I've never seen/heard an uncensored copy of that album. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.. I HATE censored versions and rarely listen to the album because of it).

If there's anything to this, I'm glad they didn't censor or water it down to please him. That would suck.

Any thoughts?

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...
