Well, i haven't heard it yet, but a lot of ya have me excited, but it is people i don't tend to agree with that are bigging it up lol. Plus, i thought #Trendin' was horrendous, NSync shit. So i guess i should be skeptical still. But hey, The Time are back, that's great and you just know Prince is gonna be throwing down effortlessly next time around....win/win.

All i have to say is that i will wait another 21 years for a GREAT CD like this one from The Time/The Original 7ven....These guys brought it home on this one and i can HONESTLY say they did it for the fans and themselves because we got so much LOVE for them. I'm so HYPE about this and i hope they make a stop here in ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI we are waiting patiently. Some of my favs are:

Strawberry Lake-Smooth Groove

#Trendin-Nice slice of TIME FUNK

"If I Was Yo Man" has GOT to be the next single! It actually probably should've been the first one, as I can see that one getting a helluva LOT of airplay!!! This jam is def on repeat!

Some of the later tracks kinda lose me because of those "heyyy" hip-hop shouts, which I absolutely HATE!! mad

SoulAlive, better than Pandemonium? I don't know if I'd necessarily say that. I really did like Pandemonium, but I think we can easily, safely say it's better than ICC! lol

Condensate - Clever and witty. Fun.

Strawberry Lake - Funky. Probably the oldest sounding song on the album. Too close to Sly Stone in the verse melodies however they make up for it on the rest.

Trendin - Updated synth pop. Danceable.

If I Was Yo Man -possibly the best track on the album. Very catchy and melodic.

Sick - goes right up there with their good rock cuts from previous albums

Cadillac - I didn't get into it at first but the chorus and the lyrics pulled me in.

Faithful - I really liked this more than the other slow jams on the album. The music is experimental like and doesn't hesitate to throw in lots of different types of sounds. Kind of modern but still has an 80s feel to it.

Toast To The Party Girl - great tune. I almost wish they had given everyone on there a solo at the end ...I liked the staples of "Ice Cream Castles" on the rhythm sections.

It sounds like they sure did take a lot of work on this album. It also sounds they were happy making this album. I enjoyed this as much as I have Pandemonium, it really reminds me of that album a lot. They could have left off a good 4 or 5 trax...think J&T mentioned leaving off some in the past but leaving them on to give them much as possible.

I agree!! This has got to be the next single.I can't get the melody out of my head. This is a strong,radio-friendly track that ranks up there with their finest singles from the past.

I like a few tracks on Pandemonium but I don't think that album holds together very well. This new album sounds more focused, more consistent.

The album is AMAZING! I had been starving for some powerful Minneapolis funk and this album delivers! After several repeated listenings,I think my favorite songs are....

***the title track---this just might be the funkiest jam they ever did!

***"If I Was Yo Man"---This needs to be the next single!!! Make a great video, send it to radio with heavy promotion and this could become one of their biggest hits.

***"#Trendin"---I liked this song from the first moment I heard it.Like their classic singles from the past, this one has ATTITUDE.It's fun, funky and catchy and they sound like they had alot of fun recording it.Morris' humor is in full display here.

***"Sick"---all I can say is headbang headbang nuff said! wink

***"Lifestyle"---the best slow jam on the album, and one of their best slow jams, period. This is another potential single.

***"Cadillac"---Hell yeah!!!! This is what I'm talkin' bout! headbang classic Time funk!

***"Toast To The Party Girl"---this song makes me smile....it's just alot of fun.

The fellas are back!! lol Doing things their own way and the results are impressive.I hope they keep it going....let's have another album next year!!! Come on,guys.

Simply great cd and dvd documentary! Even though I am a big Prince fan, Prince was not needed for this project. The guys are all talented in there own ways and brought it on!!! Some great behind the scenes stories on the dvd. With all the great reviews coming in on the cd, will Prince be motivated to top this great effort? Saw the Original 7ven in Vegas a couple of years ago and looking foward to a Bay Area show soon.

yeah i was able 2 get one show of the vegas run on audio and it was hoping but they were called the time then ..but i'm not gonna pour grease on that fire ..but i might put some chillisauce on it tho lol

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

For the most part the album is hot, it could have done losing a couple of tracks and extending others. It does trail off towards the end for me. But so what! it's still a solid 8/10.

Welcome back guys!

All I can say about the album is "that shit is sick!" biggrin

They sound like they are 20. It is the MPLS sound but updated.

Morris is 50 and can still sing about being Morris and it does not come off creepy. Prince could learn a lesson from that.

Its too bad they had the snippets as their songs need to cook until they get to a simmer and then they sweep you away. You cannot learn anything about a Time song in a damn snippet.

Been a while since I got goose bumps in a song, but when Jesse's solo kicks into gear on "If I Was Yo Man" ... cool

So happy with the release, so happy for the band. So happy to have some new real funk on my stereo.

I also love it when Morris says "Side 2" after "Lifestyle"

I hope that this does not turn into a one off project and we get a few more albums out of them.

Oh, and the Documentary is a must watch for any fan.

Later

Cause tomorrow is taking too long
and yesterday's too far away
and the reality that you believe in begins to bind.

Everyone that wrote the album off after listening to the samples should listen to the album in FULL and then post a second opinion. I'm finding it hard to believe that any Time fan doesn't like it. It's hot!

I think it's clearly stronger than their entire back catalog. I'm not saying that to disparage their back catalog, or Prince or anything like that. Obviously the back catalog is really great music. But CONDESNATE is a much more diverse and mature product. As it should be. Over time, these guys have grown as writers, producers and musicians. The album reflects that. Now it's ours to enjoy.

I put it up there with Pandemonium. I really like the album...but there are too many tunes on the album. Hey Yo, Aydkmn, Lifestyle and One Step doesnt do it for me. The positive is that the songwriting and production was done very well, and I look forward to seeing more of this in the future. Been too long.

I have to say I am very impressed with this album. I like it from beginning to end. My track by track reactions:

-Strawberry Lake starts off with an "Everyday People" Sly & Family Stone style (a little too close) esp in the vocals in the verses. The horn / synth fills in the end give it a nice full sound.

-Condensate has a James Brown vibe. Reminds me of "Release It." A strong funky rhythm guitar & drums, but melody could have been stronger.

-Trendin is nice. Full synth / horns. Thick. Though the Twitter ref is kinda trendy/corny, but the hook is quite catchy. And it's classic Time narcissism. I like it. Reminds me of "Pandemonium." Monte's solo is sweet MPLS.

-If I Was Your Man. This sounds like something Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis would have written for Alex O'Neal. It has a sweet 80s melody set against Jellybean's live newjackswing style drumming that sticks out a bit in a jarring way, but it kinda works. Nice to hear Jesse's gutar solo.

-Role Play, with its crawling rhythm guitar sounds like a Jesse Johnson song, like "I Miss" or "War Babies" from Bare My Naked Soul, or maybe "Propaganda" from Verbal Penetration.

-Sick is def Jesse Johnson driven, Bare My Naked Soul style. Or maybe Pandemonium's "Blondie." Seems pretty standard rock/blues but not remarkable or catchy. Jesse lays down great solos though.

-Lifestyle. This sounds a bit dated. Like 90s era Xscape "Just Kickin It." The Time never really hooked me for their slow songs though. Gigolos Get Lonely Too was their best.

-Faithful: Did I just mention Gigolos Get Lonely Too? Cuz that's the vibe I'm getting here both in terms of style and lyrical content. Not a fan of the percussion (Jimmy leave them drum machines alone!). I like this better than Lifestyle though.

-Cadillac. The Stick x LL Cool J's Going Back to Cali. Love the minimalist funk.

-AYDKMAN. Def another Jesse song. But like Bare My Naked Soul, great guitar work, but not as strong melodically. Hook ain't so catchy.

-One Step. Sounds like an electric version of country line dancing. Not a fan of this, but it isn't unbearable either.

-Toast to the Party Girl: Classic 80s pop/newwave here. Great synth and guitar. Very Dirty Mind era. Liking this a lot.

-Hey Yo. Reminds me of Rihanna Live My Life.

-GoHomeToYoMan. Sometimes I Get Lonely-ish. Solid production. I like it.

Overall, even my least favorite aspects of the album are still very strong. This is a great album. I wish they had been allowed to keep the name The Time. Doesn't Prince realize it would have only added to his own cache & mystique as this svengali who (once) knew how to pick talent??
One can only hope that Prince hears this and it gets his competitive spirit in gear. This is a great album!

I hear the drum programming being a sample of Jellybeans solo playing on top of live drums played during the track. Gives it a really nice thump feel.

Trickology

As long as it's better than Pandemonium and that other live compilation, I will be cool. As for the "It's the eighties" twinkle eye nostalgic Prince wrote filler on ALL The Time albums. Take that (in Diddy voice) And if you ask me, he did it deliberately. But that is a whole other discussion why Prince would purposefully say "I got this, I can write it all" And then hand them audio wallpaper instead. That is probably Prince's insecure complex at work regarding that.

As for now, I hope The Time gets to trend on twitter. And they trend under "Trending Time" Why? Because it would be funny and fitting. lol

The Original 7ven(The Band Formerly Known As The Time) – Condensate(Recommendation)

(album review by Grown Folks Music)

This is one of those recommendations where in a way I had reviewed the album in my mind before I actually had the album. After vibing to the first single #Trendin a few weeks ago someone on the GFM team hipped me to the snippets of Condensate that had made their way to Amazon. I distinctly remember having two thoughts upon hearing the teaser: 1. This project is great for music and 2. Notice has been served: Musicians are at work here.

My thought behind why Condensate is great for music is that when you listen to the project that’s truly what you find contained within all the tracks music. What do I mean? Well you know how sometimes you can go to a restaurant(fast food) and there might be hamburgers or chicken listed on the menu and after you dine upon said food you question if that’s truly what you had. But then you can go down the street to the local restauranteur(whose employees you have seen standing in line behind you from time to time getting supplies at the store that sells high quality food items) and get the real deal that satisfies and is good for you. The notice that is served is that there really are musicians out there who still respect music and their fans enough to give them good stuff that’s good for them.

As I listened to Condensate I had to keep reminding myself who I was actually listening to and then my inner-voice would kick in and say “This is what songwriting/production/arranging/entertainment sounds like.” Ultimately when you combine all those elements together you are ultimately trying reach that level where you are just simply entertained. Condensate is definitely entertaining: I cannot tell you the last time that I’ve laughed and smiled this much listening to an album of music. I mean between the interplay of Morris Day and Jerome Benton, the skits, the wordplay of the song lyrics… the album feels like you were given an opportunity to literally just hang with the 7ven listen to some stories, music, jokes and just have a great time.

Musically Condensate is everything you would expect from The Band Formerly Known As The Time. I don’t mean in a predictable way or a recycled way. This is all new music with a 2011 sensibility but with all the fire and playing that used to be the standard in music. We know the folks who continue to uphold that standard for music and 7ven of them happen to be in the same band and decided to make a great new recording for lover’s of music. Did I just say band? Yesss!!!

The energy is apparent when Monte Moir, Jellybean Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Jerome Benton, Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam and Morris Day come together. You can hear the individuality but the sum of the parts… from Jesse Johnson’s incredible guitar work on cuts like “Sick” and “AYDKMN”, Jellybean’s drum work throughout and the personal fave “If I Was Your Man”, the aforementioned banter between Morris and Jerome plus Morris’ lead vocal/quaterbacking duties calling for solos and hits in a nod to the GFOS, the keyboard work on Monte and Jimmy Jam (a lot of those sounds you won’t find in a box), the bass work of Terry Lewis that locks the grooves in air tight.

Condensate is an album, not that you didn’t know that but the emphasis is on album something you can play from start to finish without skipping tracks. The recording will grab you from the outset: The opening skit into “Strawberry Lake” will have you ready to gas up the car put the disc in the player and hit the highway just to listen while you drive. It’s just that much energy emanating from the speakers that it implores you to want to experience the project uninterrupted in its entirety and sometimes you can only achieve that on a drive. My recommendation here is to pick up a bottle of the 30 year vintage in the form of Condensate out Tuesday October 18th.

Make sure to pickup Condensate right here.

Jesse looks great in that pic. Still handsome. Seems like this album is getting a lot of good reviews. Guess I better get to purchasing iit and checking it out.
