Printable A fantastic and candid interview  It's about time someone said something real and honest about Prince and not glaze over with a look of 'I'm gonna get my ass sued if I mention any of the shit that Prince put me through'. Fair bloody play to them!

It's never been a surprise that they were a couple but they seem to really think that Prince stressed that waay too much or something. In a way, yes, but they weren't chopped liver as players (unless they truly felt he was just using their image).
Very interesting on everything. Not just Prince but the whole Trevor Horn deal! Also, did they imply that ABC was a "gay" band? I thought that guy was gay but I think he's married. They said a whole lot but could have went on about it. It would be interesting to see what he says or what others say in his defense (after all, the Pet Shop Boys worked with him after that). I think it's funny that they know they will be getting an angry call about Prince with something to complain about and THEN they said this: Won’t he be proud of you too? She was also known to be briefly involved with Cuban American impressario Ingrid Cesares (though they later became best friends). Oh, and remember the SEX book? Madge lived in Miami at the time, not too far from Sylvester Stallone, she owned The Blue Door Restaurant then. Her exploits back then were legendary on the Beach,in a kind of cult-y, undrgroundish way. But mind you, this was back before the advent of 24/7 internet gossip sites and the resurgence of the paprazzi in the US. Celebs could walk around freely on South Beach and indulge in all manner actvities and the locals wouldn't be phased in the least, because it was just that kind of laid back, bohemian, almost existential atmosphere...remember, it was a land being rebuilt be the leftover folks from the Studio 54/Regine's era...total debauchery, but a friendly (albeit hyper-sexual) debauchery respectful of people's space. I dunno, the environment was like "Shortbus" meets "Swept Away" meets "Art School Confidential" with a touch of something from John Waters and Pedro Alvomodar added in

He'll no doubt find a lot to be miffed about but if he could find it within himself to have some generosity of spirit he would realize it's true when they say it was their life too. I'm happy to see them finally being able to enjoy a level of comfort and success on their own terms. Lisa said that she's enjoying her memories more and that's wonderful. It sounds so awkward when people feel they must censor themselves as though P will somehow turn them into a pillar of salt with one stare or something.
Very candid and relaxed interview...good questions too. Thanks. The gif is one that another orger posted on a different thread. I find myself posting it, if it somehow pertains to the topic being discussed. 
It is nice to see Wendy and Lisa being so candid in interviews about their years working with Prince. Prince needs to stop being a control-freak, and let them say what they want to say in interviews. As much as I admire Prince, I could never work for him, because of his seeming need to control things. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you. | |

Something tells me that Prince won't find this interview so "great". Being called a "girl, prissy, not generous, and fancy lesbian" will indeed, most probably "piss" him off! But realizing this, it seems like they're a lot looser. I am not trying to take anything from them, but the fact remains that there is nothing about them that makes them stand so far ahead of the crowd of talented folks performing and composing music. However, once you add the Prince factor into their success, it makes sense. Or perhaps they would be more successful not living in his shadow. I will totally disagree that they don't stand out. Their solo work attracts me on it's own. I do not- and never have- gone out of my way to buy music that I buy because of association. And I own all their cds. Many people who know them only know them for their Heroes music, and have never even seen Purple Rain...lol. I know many people in that category who I turned on the their latest cd- which they in turn bought. Unlike LOST and it's overwrought FOREBODING string riff every time it comes to a commercial, their work blends WITH the scenes and supports it - rather than overpowering it. Or being a crappy device like horror movie music. They have carved a career in a completely different industry DESPITE Prince, not because of him. And , like it or not, their music has evolved over time. |

You gotta remember though, all this kinda stuff transpired before 1995. Come mid 90's Miami Beach was so over The scene definitely changed, sadly enough. It's like one day the suits figured out what kind of creative life force the place had and they and their corporate entities swooped in like vultures to suck it all out

Lisa has stated many times she thinks of him as a brother, hell even brothers need to be set straight once in a while. I know mine does.

How funny to find out later that they really were a couple! It was not a tip off to me, in part because of its boldness--I couldn't imagine given the cultural & political climate of the time that they would so boldly proclaim themselves that way. Plus I was way too young to "get it." More than that, in my adolescent imagination fantasy, I thought they were both preparing a bath FOR PRINCE... Wendy: Prince liked to be your savior. He liked to promise the world to you and he liked to be the guy who could deliver that to you and make you feel bigger than life. And I think he continues to do that with certain artists who would never be signed to a regular label and would never be played on radio and could never sell a record. I think that he actually believes that the women were all worthy musicians in his eyes, but I do probably think that there was a sexual component to it. That’s just my psychology and I could be dead wrong, I don’t know.
