Not that it's a big secret or surprise, but the duo & former longtime couple have given what is probably their most candid interview to date! Wendy & Lisa openly discussing their life together, their music career & of course the Purple One himself, whose sexuality is also clarified for the reader:

"Did you first think Prince was gay?

Lisa: He was little and kinda prissy and everything. But he’s so not gay.

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman.

Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.
"

Sorry to say this, but in general i've never understood why some artists or other pulic figures officially have or had to claim/state that they're gay, especially when many
people were already aware of it. Imo they owe no one an explanation and i see it as thing which the media uses as an unnecassary hype. Why is it always such an issue ?

I agree. As a gay guy myself, I never understood why it's wrong if I don't "come out". I don't assume others are gay by default and they have to make a ringing endorsement of their heterosexuality to me or anyone else. Yet if we don't "come out", we're hiding it. From who? Just cuz you (whoever) wasn't in the mix to know doesn't mean anyone was hiding anything. It means you never got to know me. What I do w/ another guy has ZIPPO to do with most all of my life. It doesn't effect my job, my clothing, what I eat, what I read, what I listen to, whether I'm left handed or right handed (I'm left, btw), or anything else mundane like that. It's no secret W&L were lesbians from the get go. And no one ever gave a shit and they still don't. I'm glad for that.

I would pay money to hear audio of this interview, or SEE it.

I have read this interview a couple of times since I saw this thread, and I posted it on my Prince blog. Every single time I've read it, I've laughed out loud at the "fancy lesbian" part.

It tickles me NOT because it's about Prince, but because I can hear Lisa saying that. Can't you hear them sitting there, just chatting along like they did on the Purple Rain DVD extras, and Lisa blurts out "Fancy lesbian"???? TOO damn funny!

I think the question of that other personality inside Prince (as stated to Oprah) and its unknown gender has been resolved by Wendy in that interview: "He's a girl for sure, but he's not gay". HAHAHA

It seems to me that they've come to terms with the fact that Prince is going to come up in every interview that they do. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that at least 75% of each one they do is edited down to focus on Prince and/or their association with him.

But realizing this, it seems like they're a lot looser. They accept it and give up the goods, knowing that it's the hook that's going to get the interview read so they can get some exposure for their own (very good) work in the process.

As a result, these interviews they've been doing the last several months are really incredible and a blast to read.

love it, it sounds like the 3 of them are like naughty siblings with P being the mature one , Lisa the rebel and Wendy somewhere in between!. Isn't it great that they still talk and I think it's very obvious that there will always be love between them. What is also blatantly obvious is that when the three of them work together and W&L are allowed some genuine creative input the results are magic; when I listen to a P cd or a W& L cd I always wish that each could have inputted into the other!. Its' the old Lennon / McCartney analogy isn't it.
The signs are good though for some old trax to be finally released, fingers crossed.

Love the gif. lol

He'll no doubt find a lot to be miffed about but if he could find it within himself to have some generosity of spirit he would realize it's true when they say it was their life too.

I'm happy to see them finally being able to enjoy a level of comfort and success on their own terms. Lisa said that she's enjoying her memories more and that's wonderful. It sounds so awkward when people feel they must censor themselves as though P will somehow turn them into a pillar of salt with one stare or something. lol

Very candid and relaxed interview...good questions too.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

that was really sad to read, because i love the grace jones and FGTH albums he's produced. oh, and the seal albums, sure. and i've heard the album he did with W&L and it's super nice. it sucks that he's so neurotic and homophobic. mad

Theres a lot of good stuff happening these days,,,,,

Up until recently i never
realized that Wendy was so ruff n tumble,
it sorta explains why her and Prince worked so well together....

on the other hand Lisa to me is like a silent woof warrior
and its good to see her finally taking the front seat
and shining her light....wouldnt mind hearing just a solo album
of her work in the future some time.....

more dreams shattered as i puff the hair out of my eye
- i so loved that raspberry beret imagery..... o well

: ) .
