there is a pair of hand-cuffs on my bedhead that I am going to have to cut off, I can't get the key to work. A client dropped by today, and I forgot to shut the bedroom door. No wonder his eyes were so sparkly okay i think i need a cold shower now man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Zannaloaf said: L4OATheOriginal said: if it negates even one iota of what i said, then what's that say 4 the insistance that wendy and lisa can carry prince's jock strap? i dare u 2 watch the sign o the times, lovesexy, gold experience NPG bands and b honest with urself and say that wendy and lisa could ever b that funky or diverse. i keep thinking about that video 4 waterfall and how LAME it was tho there were some good tracks on their 1st 3 albums, just one song from exodus blows everything that was "funky" away. i'm more inclined 2 belive the non bias people on this thread in their review of their album and even the "positive" reviews saying it's sort of in the continuation vein of girl bros. which was utter 4 me. so i approach this new album of theirs with VERY HEAVY CAUTION when i know there is better music from the likes of greazy meal, sons of the almighty I guess in reality you like funk and nothing but the P funk...lol. Which is fine. Yeah - for what Prince does he has done it exceptionally well (mostly in the past as far as I'm converned..on record anyway) but I also like many artists who do nothing funky at all. And I think they are every bit as good at what they do as Prince is at what he does. The thing I keep finding is that you are comparing another artist to Prince, problem being that unless they are also treading similar musical waters it makes no sense. I'd say that is true of this album. It's not even in the same ocean which is fine by me, it's a big musical world. And some people will prefer this ocean over the one you're swimming in. Why is that such a problem? And for the record - funky or "diverse" does not always make for what I want to listen too. Sometimes I just want to listen to what I find to be really great to my ears even if it's not the best players in history playing the hardest notes ever to be invented and a song that has the ability to change history. And I can hardly believe you'd bring up video production quality on a Prince site.... i like diversity as well, and not everything in my collection is straight up funk. if u saw it u might raise an eyebrow at how i have records from system of a down then can easily switch it up and play the roots. and i love alanis and me'shell ndegocello. it just seems that on a prince site, 4 some unknown reason that i can't grasp, wendy and lisa r held up 2 like "goddess" standards and every other band associate gets the thumbsdown. what u didn't like the video 2 sign o the times? man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The reviews I see here about W&L seem very interesting to say the least. I don't know if I'm going to get this CD but I respect W&L on their own and I may give them a shot. It's good that they are still releasing new music. That's never a bad thing. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Any immediate stand outs? I normally do, but this album just jumped at me from start to end, I was rather confused about it, cuz that normally means I am not impressed. But this was the other side of the spectrum.

Well I heard the samples of the songs from White Flags of Winter Chimneys and my impressions are that:
1. It's very melancholy. I definately think it's going to have that cold feeling throughout the whole CD. 2. It seems like it's a good CD. It sounds great and W & L's voices sound great from these samples. 3. It seems like a folk rock kind of CD, correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I'm getting from the samples. As for buying it, I don't know yet. I love hearing new music but I have a feeling this will be one of those CD's where I'm going to buy it and play the whole way through once or twice and never play it again. I may buy it anyway just to support them. I'm not sure what I will do, but it sounds like it's a good CD. I'm glad W&L let us sample the tracks so that we could decide if we wanted to buy it or not. The reason I think it would be good to buy it is because this is one of those cd's that takes quite a few hits to break the ice.. I highly recommend this over any Wendy and Lisa album.. it's complex, mature and the entire album flows with a haunting feeling..

http://app.topspin.net/ar..._id=204002 With "Invisible," a post-break-up song, it’s impossible to forget that the two, once lovers, are now in other relationships. -Amy Scholder that's interesting... i'm definitely of the mind the while Invisible is a break-up song, it's more likely about (once again) coming to terms with their relationship with Prince. but while listening to it yesterday, it dawned on me how foreign the idea of them being a couple now seems to me. like, it's odd to even try to imagine anymore. totally off-topic - i met Amy Scholder this summer, she's kinda super cool herself. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Far better than White Flags ! and now that's you've beaten that opinion into the ground are there other threads you can inhabit? Just curious. Especially as I am sure you haven't listened to it.I can easily deal with peoples dislike of someone's work - but judging from snippets is pretty sad (i assume you didn't buy the album). And - of course - adds nothing to the discussion. How bout starting a new thread - " I like Princes music and don't like Wendy and Lisa's new one." Then you can just keep it going by responding "right" and "i agree" ad naseum while allowing actual mature discussion. PS- i can't STAND Tom Waites voice, but I respect his writing and musicianship, so I could never think of him having the best album of any year. See how that works? And he ain't funky!

[Edited 12/11/08 12:16pm] 1. I think there's a lot of melancholy to their music, with the possible exception of "Fruit on the Bottom", which I always think of as a poppy, funky album by the standard of all the other W&L albums. That said, the new one feels a lot less melancholy than their other stuff, but I can see how you'd get that impression. 2. I think it's fantastic. I'm enough of a fan that I always want to pick up their albums, but I wouldn't consider myself a huge W&L fan. I didn't like Girl Bros. very much. I wasn't a huge fan of Eroica either. I didn't have high hopes for the new album, and I was pleasantly surprised. 3. There's folk rock floating around in the album, but I think there are a lot of different sounds on it. I think it's very lush for them. I can certainly hear the soundtrack work they've been doing enhancing the pop songs they've written. I'd say get it. It's a fair price and if you're buying it through the web site, you're supporting their music directly. And most importantly, I think it's some of their best work.

I have to agree with Zannaloaf as well to those who are here and havent gave a listen to the album but yet want free thing in life. I KNOW who some of you are btw( and no I wont name or they clearly state it in their posts). And saying that just to be a shit stirrer, THAT I dont appreciate or respect them at all.
BUT... If you did listen to the album COMPLETELY(no sampling) and dont like, THAT I DO respect your opinions and that I know that not everyone will like what the other likes. TRUE we all have different taste in music and will not agree on EVERYTHING. I really think if I started a thread called "Prince never had "funk" in the first place" alot of you would be falling over backwards in disagree with who ever didnt like the others responce let alone having a serious heart attack and bitching me out especially if I didnt give one listen to that/those albums. RIGHT? OF COURSE you would ( not to worry I wont be starting a idiotic thread of the like the org would crash from the riot that would bring). We went with a topic before about Prince and "funk" and that failed and died into dust cause everyone had a different deffinition of "funk" Anyhow, have fun discussing this topic. I gave my opinion about the album and that still stands. Like it or not. And Anx as you may have read I liked the album too BTW I do agree with Hamsterhuey as well. Smurf theme song-seriously how many fucking "La Las" can u fit into a dam song
