If I remember right, from working at a cd packaging plant, it's a thin paperboard type cd holder that has 2 folds in it. Then the cd fits in one of the slots.

and now that's you've beaten that opinion into the ground are there other threads you can inhabit? Just curious. Especially as I am sure you haven't listened to it.I can easily deal with peoples dislike of someone's work - but judging from snippets is pretty sad (i assume you didn't buy the album). And - of course - adds nothing to the discussion.
How bout starting a new thread - " I like Princes music and don't like Wendy and Lisa's new one." Then you can just keep it going by responding "right" and "i agree" ad naseum while allowing actual mature discussion. PS- i can't STAND Tom Waites voice, but I respect his writing and musicianship, so I could never think of him having the best album of any year. See how that works? And he ain't funky! lol

Sorry but that's a silly comment :

You can listen to the full album for free here !

So yes I have listened to this album over and over again because I normally really like W&L's music.

But again if there are brillant moments here and there on this cd, as I said before, it freezes my whole body from my head to my feet. It is too cold.
I dig the arrangements but not most of the melodies (flat and boring). Their compositions are not always at the same level as their studio expertise.

It's not a bad cd at all. It is actualluy pretty good but come on, when I read you guys pretending it is the best CD of the year, it cracks me up.
We have a pretty good album and we end up with a so called masterpiece ! No middle ground !

We have the same kind of reactions from Prince fans who love everything he does even if it is crap.

Regarding Prince, the last CD I loved from him was TRC. So you know, it has been 6 years I haven't enjoyed one of his cds from start to finish.

Regarding Tom Waits, I guess you have never seen him live and you have never listened to the live cd from the concert in Chicago from this year that I'm talking about. Amazing performance and musicianship that makes you travel through different worlds. Tom Waits is an amazing story teller.

What about the Last Shadow Puppets ? Have you listened to this great pop album with a Spector's wall of sound touch ? Uh no ?

Love it.

Very lush and beautiful, some of the melodies are very Goldfrapp-esque.

The album definitely feels very considered, they must have spent a long time tweaking it, you can hear that in the details, it's no bare-bones arrangements that's for sure.

listening to this album and the W+L songs from PE, The 1 U Wanna C especially, you can hear their richness of sound coming through.

I've always thought of the Prince/Wendy+Lisa relationship as a blacksmiths craft, Prince sparked it and W+L forged it.
Just like when he tossed songs their way in The Revolution days, In All My Dreams has always been a favourite of mine.

I think now more than ever Prince could do with a tight, layered number, slowed down and minus the schmalz...

I doubt that would happen now, you don't smite your "best friend".

Haven't you ever disagreed with a critics choice for best music or film of the year? That's more my issue. It's fine to not like it, but to post "this is better, and so is this..." etc. What's the point? It's one thing to say - as you did above you don't care for it. But some people may think it's the best cd of the year. And so what? They are welcome to their opinion.
As I pointed out about Waits - never seen him live not listened to a bootleg of him. Why? Because I don't like his voice. Period. I loved a lot of his early records but then got really tired of his voice. Nothing personal or taking away from his writing or performing. Just unlikely for me to enjoy it. So I listen to other stuff I do like - and check out new music as much as possible.
The Last Shadow Puppets are cool - like a 60s movie sountrack. Glad to hear such rich production, horns and orchestra, but I also have heard this sound before and it won't likely be in my top ten because I don't gravitate towards it except in instrumental stuff wink Which is fine. It doesn't have to hit me as the best thing ever, but I also won't be ragging on it just to show I know better.

lol. no - that's hardly what I have said. It's just that many of the posts have nothing to do with whether people LIKE it or not. It's the nature of it- multiple posts to continue to say how bad it is and calling it unfunky (as if it's supposed to be specifically funky, etc.) I suspect you get what I'm talking about. If not I don't think I can explain it better than that. And it's not just your posts I was referring to, at least that wasn't what I meant to do. Perhaps you gave me a launch point in one of your comments. Anyway, I'm not going to waste more time on this particular point.
Thanks for the Shadow Puppets. I'm liking their arrangements. Do the two singers do all the arranging? I'd love to hear just the music part.

The Last Shadow puppets is Alex Turner from The Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane, the singer from The Rascals.
They are both very gifted young artists (both of them are only 23).
I saw them at the Olympia for the first time this year and I could not believe how good they are. They write beautiful melodies. Nothing revolutionary, nothing very technical. But they are fantastic composers and they are really tight live. What they do, they do it with a natural sens of perfection.
The age of the understatement was produced by James Ford, another very gifted musician and producer from Simian Mobile Disco.
I invite you to visit the following website. You can see them play unplugged in a studio as well there (links on the right). Don't be shocked by how young they are. They are still just kids !

Well you won't have to wait too long. The "Heroes" Score CD is expected to be released in Jan '09. Unlike the previous CD release which featured W&L's cues in between various musical acts, this is nothing but the ladies music from the show. Various themes fleshed out into full length pieces. The gifts just keep coming wink

BTW...
Ever After
Red Bike
You & I
Sweet Suite

But how can you pick just 4?

Lisa is very awesome and I heard she likes the response to their album. Lets email her that she and Wendy should NOT wait 10 years for another album.
But in the meanwhile say thank you to Writers strike. Without that strike happening I dont think there would be an album.

I just downloaded it, a reward for surviving final exam week. And a reward it was. nod On first listen, I have to say this is easily my favorite music purchase since Meshell's TWHMMTMOMD.

The last 10 years have been good -- the girls have matured, and apparently so have I. I finally have a full appreciation of Lisa's voice; the girls' eclecticism, endearing but slightly awkward to me before, now succeeds without qualification; and their scoring experience has delivered new aural layers to their music that wrap you up like crisp linens and down pillows on a sprawling, mahogany bed. Makes for great dreams!

By way of critique, I do miss a bit of the purplish funk and wah wah that peppered W&L's first three CDs, and I wish Wendy would have gotten not just lifted (as she beautifully does on "Salt and Cherries" and the "Paprika Plains"-like "Sweet Suite"), but absolutely vaulted into some swirling guitar ecstasy on at least one showcase track! But the album, for all its airy contemplation, certainly isn't devoid of kick: "Niagra Falls" has a mounting energy that could get downright n.a.s.t.y. in a live performance cool, and the catharsis of "Red Bike" and sheer fun of bonus track "Viste" are as infectious, while more W&L's own sound, as anything on Eroica or Fruit at the Bottom, respectively. This is definitely a coming of age -- and a victory -- for the Girl Bros. thumbs up!

Favorites? hmmm I'll need to think about that for a bit.
