I really can't remember the last time I heard and album non-stop for over a week. It's really all I've listened to since I bought it last week and I'm nowhere near being sick of it. I find something new with every listen. "Ever After" is my current fave: when Lisa sings the line, "thunder shook the floor and lightning struck the paintings" or something like that anyway, the emotion in Lisa's voice is haunting. And of course "Suite Sweet" is heartbreaking. Sdldawn said: The soundscapes on the album are very striking to me. It feels cold, and a sadness that waves in and out of the instruments and lyrics. I'm glad they chose to stick with this occurring theme throughout the album. It fits their style well. It's a very thought provoking set of songs for me. Lyrically they have never ever been this at this level, and musically they have polished a timeless album. Congrats to the girls, they have recorded something that will only get better with age. They can ask former band members on this, it seems to be a hard thing to do. I also applaud the less is more factor, and the attention to small details throughout the instrumentation. It's charming to hear such detail and hard work within each song... carefully crafted.
It took some time, but oh how it was worth it. great analysis. falling to sleep listening to it last night, it struck me how well it works thematically as conceding to the bleak of winter, and the triumphant ending of the sweet suite is the beginning of spring. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I must admit that it hasn't grabbed me in the same way as their other albums did. It's very morose.
I need to listen to it more, I suppose.

Oh, it's certainly worth the wait but know there's at least a couple of albums worth of material floating around that may not every see the light of day. It's just a shame. after I heard the entire album I have been playing White Flags song to death I am suprised that not too many fans haven't mention that song as one of their favs like it has been mines.I hope Renata and Wendy and Lisa work together to add songs on their upcoming new and improved website so we can buy singles and bonus tracks and dont have to wait ten years but Lisa said on her twitter that she wasnt concern about fans exchanging songs or internet pirating so I can see the girls might offering free downloads so fans wont wait for soooo long for something new from them. Still I am going to buy the album because I wont feel cheated and it is worth buying and it my way of supporting creative artists that I digged the most.
That reminds me, I need to get a twitter account and see how that works. If they would start releasing individual new songs, etc, I think that'd be great.

I got it over the weekend, havent had time to burn it. Looking forward to listening to it.
Other than the two still living in the 90's, it seems almost everybody is digging it.

"Ever After" didn't immediately grab me, but I have to say it's got my attention today. That fuzz guitar bridge at 2:50 is heavy! Reminds me of something from Smashing Pumpkins. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I think that they made this album for the hardcore fans and ppl who just want a new W&L album. You know I feel grateful that they even made this possible because the only reason why the album came out was because they had a lot of time on their hands last year during the writers strike. If there going to be an actors strike dont expected them to do a follow up album right away because already they booked on doing scoring for two other tv gigs besides Heroes. I heard that Heroes wasnt doing too well this season and I am not sure if NBC wants to renew the show because the show cost a fortiune 2 make and already NBC is dealing with financial trouble but dont be dispair because Wendy and Lisa definately have a plate full with their scoring and that field is highly demand. They are very busy with scoring and being moms too and I know it has to be hard to be a working mom to a toddler or infant. I may not understand it but I witneessed when my mother had my youngest brother at 38. I give them pros because at if I were their age I would be baby-sitting my grandchildren not raising them lol. But no offense to the other awesome middle aged moms out there doing their thing. But anyway they already busy doing other things. The fans already doing the job for them by promoting their album online. But if any news of the girls might doing further promotion I am sure we will all know it. [Edited 12/15/08 11:32am] You make a lot of sense here. I definitely wish them the best. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I think that's probably true. And the album is far better for it. This is the album that they wanted to make and we grok -- minus any A&R guy saying "I don't hear a hit." And you're right that the writer's strike made this possible - but I also think technology plays a huge role. 1998 to 2008 is light years . . . As much as Girl Bros. wasm't recorded "to compete with Alanis Morissette", there was a real need to push that record through semi-traditional channels. The internet was in its infancy (or, at least, its toddler stage!) as a widespread tool at the time, amd while MP3s were out, they weren't ready for primetime. That made distribution a pretty nasty game, and the capacity for viral marketing pretty limited. Combine that with the fact that most people didn't know who W&L were and . . . Emter 2008. W&L have an entirely new generation of fans -- folks that hear them name checked by Gwen Stefani, Madonna or Erykah, and a much wider base of sci fi folks that know them from shows like "Heroes". We're suddenly in an environment where hip DJs remix their music and spread it all over the interwebs. Combine that with the technology to give instant gratification for what's essentially a pre-order (we pay now, get the CD and/or record in February . . . ), the incredible sound quality of FLAC files, and new infrastructure support for indie artists (G-d bless Topspin Media) and you've got the makings of a perfect storm . . . I've been saying for a couple of years now that "Wendy & Lisa should pull a Radiohead" and release a new album this way. Now that they have, I could not be more delighted with the results.

I suppose cuz those were or valid points or just teases and not rather silly remarks trying to bait. Just a lucky guess. We already know you don't like the record and favor Prince stuff. We get the picture; it's written in in Prince ebonics. That's telling something. I don't know what exactly, but something. [Edited 12/16/08 9:21am]
