All-Star Jam @ Bunkers in MPLS.... Last night I went to see Dr. Mombo's Combo on a nice Monday night. Since I am in education and live near Paisley Park, I do not get out much in MPLS on a Monday night.
They were in great form and Margie Cox, Michael Bland, Sonny T and crew sounded great and were in a very playful mood. At one time during sound check (which was right before they played) they said Prince was coming, but I knew it was a joke. They later played part of "Take Me With You". When they stopped playing the song, the sound guy said "You guys better play that better when Prince gets here. He's gonna be pissed if he hears that crap." - it was pretty funny. But the best part was, Tommy Barbarella, Jellybean Johnson, Chance Howard all made guest appearances on stage with the band. Even Johnny Lang played guitar for on song! The night was great. They announced that St. Paul Peterson was in the house, but he never came on stage. It really was just a lot of horsing around and jamming, but that's what made it so great. Was anyone else there? "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

I would pay money to see Prince reunite with Micheal B and Sonny T before I would the Purple Rain Revolution lineup. They were the best.

is it just me or do you think that when you see a subject line that says "All-Star Jam" there should be some actual stars involved, rather than C and D list session musicians and bar bands? "I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."

This is nothing new. This kind of stuff happens all the time. It is like an average Monday down at Bunkers.

Ouch! You're a hard one to please aren't you? And probably never seen all the great musicians who play at Bunkers. None of them are C and D session musicians as you so arrogantly put it. They are all very talented people who love music and know how to give back. They also don't carry themselves and think they are better than you or me like your comment makes you sound.

Bunkers is a tad small 4 all this talent isnt it? I LOVE Tommy Barberella & havent seen him 4 a long time. I gotta ride out 2 Minne SOON. Miss my friends & son. Just busy with school & travel plans. But I intend 2 get there. BTW, I have TAKE ME WITH U adorning my licence plate. AND THE RIDE. I took IRRESISTABLE BITCH & SEXY MF off so I dont embarass Prince. May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love.

Doesn't make us less of a person. NO such thing as a B, C or D person. Listen to the song. God gives gifts to people at various times. That song is a gift. Listen to the song and open your mind. Being a popular Musician does not mean your better than everyone. Jesse Johnson is a great musician but he is no recognized in the world for his talent....cause he chooses not to be. Your postion you have taken is harsh. Which only shows you have limited experiences with life. Open your mind. Good luck. I am not going to argue with you. I have said enough. Figure it out for yourself....better yet go to Bunkers and see these people. Then tell me what you think. [Edited 3/31/05 14:01pm]

word !!!!!
plus the people who are mentioned all contributed to Prince and his music.. in the era with Tommy Barberella and Morris hayes anddd Micheal Bland they were quite funky... haven't really seen that kind of connection since in any of his recent choices...except with the revolution. Not to mention Sonny T. pleazzzzeee aint no-one badder on bass....that is the truth. golly gee someone needs to do their homework. One time he was so bad Prince ran up to the stage and thru down a grand at his feet. please .....whos the star ? Chance Howard contributes big time to the time and also plays with Prince on his gigs...sooooo whats your point. at one point he went back and forth in one week during both of the bands tour. hmmmmm Prince wanted him that bad... All- Star - Jam pretty much fills the bill to me. obviously all you pay attention to is those who are on your T.V..... a true musician plays where ever....with whomever when they get a chance.. cuz they appreacite the moment of the rawness of it all unrehearsed just plan ol' talent...hmmmmm makes ya think.... just my opinion....Bunkers rules and i have seen better sessions there than i have ever seen on T.V. ( oh and Paisley of course) dang and i changed my mind about going on Monday. eh thats okay...summers just around the corner they will be hanging again... and he will stop by again like he has many times there.

Wow, it's amazing what people will argue about on this site.
By All-Star I meant "Stars" of the "Prince world". Simple as that. and oh yea, get a life. "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

Much of the stars that are in the music business nowdays and are considered "A list" have got nothing on this group of people. I've seen them. NUMEROUS times, and they kick most live bands asses right out of the water most nights. - I agree with your point....but for me, Sonny and Michael are more ´stars´ than Alicia Keys and Usher...

All these people are great musicians and definitely stars of Prince's musical history. "All Star Jam" is an appropriate title for a band that includes Michael B, Sonny T etc and not even mentioning that Paul Peterson was in the room -he only sings one of my favourite "Prince" albums of all time!
